I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 283: Chapter 188: New Team Members, China Speed

Jiang He made a phone call.

”Sister Jing, it’s Jiang He. Could you let the chief resident physician know that I’m taking a few days off?”

”Ah? Dr. Jiang, what’s wrong? Are you exhausted from the resuscitation yesterday?”

”I have some personal matters to attend to. For the next few days, please have the other doctors keep an eye on my beds. Call me anytime if there’s an emergency.”

After hanging up, Jiang He changed into casual clothes and walked straight out of Affiliated Hospital No. 1.

His train of thought was crystal clear.

’As for the matter of fighting the plagiarism by the reviewer, I can just leave it to the big shots behind me. Have they ever heard the saying? When you’re out in the world, it’s all about seniority and connections...’

Dean Chen, Vice Dean Zhang Sui, Yang Xu, and Gu Qingyan.

These four people spanned China, the United States, and Europe, possessing clinical, research, and administrative power.

’So I don’t need to worry about this matter myself.’

’Let the adults handle adult business.’

’I only need to do one thing: produce even more badass research results.’

’The other party would need one to two months at the very least to rush the publication of the SAP model. Meanwhile, our side’s countermeasures will also take time. Contacting the editor-in-chief, applying for a blind peer review reassessment, exerting pressure from within the academic community... Once the situation escalates, the other party will have no more than two options. Either be stubborn and refuse to admit fault, or be forced to apologize. Either way, the global medical community’s attention will eventually focus on a few key tags: ”China,” ”Southern Medical University,” and ”Jiang He’s team.”’

’I have to seize this window of opportunity.’

’The miRNA early screening project is a god-tier technology that can truly pinpoint lesions in the earliest stages of cancer. It’s a breakthrough that could rewrite future global oncology treatment guidelines. It’s my mentor’s ladder to becoming an academician. And it’s my own top-tier research achievement. Seize the opportunity of the plagiarism scandal igniting public opinion and directly publish the completed miRNA early screening paper. Make the world’s pharmaceutical giants, venture capitalists, and top research institutes take notice. That way, I can fast-track the project’s implementation.’

’So, first step: Complete the wet lab experiments for the miRNA early screening project immediately.’

...

「The laboratory.」

Jiang He grabbed Chen Hao. ”We’re moving up the recruitment exam for the project team. It’s tonight, in the third lecture hall of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.”

Chen Hao was confused. ”Tonight? Isn’t that a bit sudden?”

”It’s fine. Whoever can make it will come. For those who can’t because of conflicts, we’ll arrange a make-up session later.”

”Okay, I’ll go notify everyone now.”

...

「That evening.」

「The third lecture hall of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.」

The examinees were waiting for a security check at the entrance.

Zhou Yang saw Wang Xiaoqing also standing at the entrance.

After hesitating for a long time, he finally decided to go up and start a conversation.

”Professor, are you here to proctor the exam?”

Wang Xiaoqing replied calmly, ”I’m here to take the exam.”

Zhou Yang: ”?”

’Master Extinction is here to take an entrance exam for a student-led project? This world must have gone crazy.’

After speaking, Wang Xiaoqing went through the security check.

Leaving Zhou Yang standing there, stunned.

A full five seconds passed before he dazedly looked at Lin Yue beside him.

”Yue... I didn’t mishear her, did I? The professor just said... she... sh-sh-sh-she’s here to take the exam?”

Lin Yue didn’t answer.

Zhou Yang took a closer look and saw that Lin Yue’s face was deathly pale. She was swaying, looking as if she was about to faint at any second.

He quickly grabbed Lin Yue’s shoulders with both hands and shook her frantically. ”Say something, Yue! Say something! Don’t scare me!”

...

It was time.

Chen Hao let out a sigh of relief.

’When I was doing the security check on Wang Xiaoqing just now, I honestly felt like I was going to die... Good thing I kept brainwashing myself: I’m a core member! I’m the proctor!’

But when he stepped into the classroom and saw Wang Xiaoqing again, his legs still went a little weak.

”Uh... um, time to get ready for the exam.”

Chen Hao handed out the exam papers.

When he got to Wang Xiaoqing, he presented the paper with both hands.

Chen Hao: ”Professor, your sweet... oh, I mean, sheet.”

Wang Xiaoqing: ”Thank you.”

Chen Hao said obediently, ”You’re welcome, Professor Wang... My honor.”

Wang Xiaoqing: ”...”

The exam officially began.

Chen Hao scanned the room with his hands behind his back.

Even though there were only a few examinees, he was still very serious.

He’d glance at the back row one moment, then the front row the next.

Time passed, second by second.

Chen Hao couldn’t contain his curiosity.

He quietly circled around to a spot diagonally behind Wang Xiaoqing.

The test Jiang He had created was extremely difficult, covering a vast number of core concepts in the RNA extraction process.

’Professor Wang, can she actually solve these?’

Chen Hao took one look.

And realized he had been worrying for nothing.

When Wang Xiaoqing answered the questions, she was basically insta-killing them on sight.

As expected of a professor from the School of Basic Medical Sciences. Her solid theoretical foundation and her approach to solving the problems were on a completely different level from the students.

Just as Chen Hao was watching, captivated and marveling internally...

Wang Xiaoqing seemed to notice his gaze from behind. She turned her head slightly and glanced at Chen Hao.

Her gaze seemed to ask, ’What are you looking at?’

Chen Hao felt like he’d just been caught cheating on an exam. He instinctively looked left and right, wanting to find a seat and quickly sit down.

A thousand fake-outs a second!

Finally, Chen Hao came to his senses.

’Wait a minute. I’m the proctor! It’s my job to proctor the exam! What the hell am I so nervous about?!’

Chen Hao forced himself to straighten his back and walked back to the lectern, looking ”incredibly relaxed” as he swung his arm and leg on the same side with each step.

Wang Xiaoqing sighed, looked away, and continued answering the questions.

...

An hour and a half later, the exam ended.

Jiang He came over from the lab, sat right down at the lectern, and began grading the papers on the spot.

Ten minutes later.

The grading was finished.

Jiang He didn’t waste any time and announced directly, ”Zhou Yang, Lin Yue, Cai Zhuoqun, Professor Wang, you’ve all passed. Welcome to the project team.”

Zhou Yang and Lin Yue looked at each other.

He excitedly threw his arms open. ”Yue, we did it!”

Lin Yue threw herself into his arms, exclaiming, ”We really did!”

Cai Zhuoqun nodded slightly. Passing was within his expectations.

Wang Xiaoqing, on the other hand, calmly put her pen in her pocket to prevent it from being swiped by anyone strange.

So, of the five people who took the exam this time, only one didn’t pass.

”Li Wei, your theoretical foundation is still a ways off from the current experimental requirements. You didn’t pass this time.”

Li Wei couldn’t smile anymore.

Twice. He had failed to pass twice...

Especially this time, when he was the only one who didn’t make it...

’Is it because I’ve been... ”finding resources” too diligently lately? Did ”taking off” too often sap my energy...’

Jiang He walked over to Li Wei and comforted him.

”Don’t feel bad. Think about what you’ve posted yourself: ’When the sun rises, forget about yesterday.’ It’s alright.”

Li Wei was taken aback for a moment.

Then, he nodded heavily.

”Yeah... When the sun rises, I’m still the world’s number one student!”

Jiang He patted his shoulder. ”Keep it up.”

...

「Half an hour later.」

「The laboratory.」

Everyone on the project team was present.

Old members: Chen Hao, Cheng Xiyao, Yi Xiangwan, Gu Yizhou, Lu Xiaolin, Tang Pei.

New members: Wang Xiaoqing, Cai Zhuoqun, Zhou Yang, Lin Yue.

Eleven people in total.

The lab now seemed a little crowded.

Jiang He walked to the front and began to speak.

”Before I assign tasks, there’s something I need to tell everyone.”

”The paper on the severe acute pancreatitis prediction model that we pulled several all-nighters to finish... was rejected by the New England Journal of Medicine.”

”The reason for rejection was so-called ethical and racial bias, but the real reason is that the authoritative expert from the American lab responsible for the review coveted our model’s data and underlying logic. They not only rejected our paper, but they’re also using their privileged position to repackage our hard work. They’re preparing to preemptively publish it under their lab’s name within the next two months to seize the international standard for this technology.”

As soon as he finished speaking.

There was a dead silence.

Two seconds later.

”How could they do that?!”

Chen Hao was furious!

This was the fruit of their labor—everyone working in two shifts, around the clock for days and nights, keying in data point by data point!

Cheng Xiyao bit her lip, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Lu Xiaolin, Gu Yizhou, Tang Pei, and Yi Xiangwan were equally enraged.

As a new member of the team, Wang Xiaoqing’s expression darkened, and she was already starting to think of solutions to help Jiang He.

Jiang He reassured them.

”As for fighting back, Professor Yang Xu, the hospital administration, and senior medical experts from Europe have already fully intervened. They will fight the other party to the bitter end.”

”However, our counterattack won’t just be a legal battle.”

”I plan to turn our miRNA early tumor screening technology into a reality within the next two months.”

”We’ll use our latest achievement to slap them hard in the face. Is everyone with me?”

After a brief silence.

Chen Hao looked up and said, ”Old Jiang, with you here, I’m fucking bursting with confidence.”

Lu Xiaolin said, ”Boss, just give us our assignments.”

”I’m fired up!”

”I have to start researching immediately!”

Tang Pei and Cheng Xiyao were already tying up their hair. Nothing more needed to be said.

”Good.”

Jiang He said calmly, ”Chen Hao, go to the cold storage and get the serum samples. Professor Wang, you’ll be in charge of the Trizol LS lysis step of the RNA extraction. No RNase contamination will be tolerated. Junior Brother Cai, take some people and prepare the reverse transcription reaction system.”

The new team was formed.

A groundbreaking project. Time to show them what China’s (Jiang He’s) speed looks like.
