I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 168: Chapter 132: The Uninvited Guest from Mexico

On the adjacent bed, Jiang He glanced at the thermostat on the wall.

The air conditioner display read: 24°C.

At this temperature, there was no reason to feel cold.

’So, what is she trying to say?’

Jiang He’s emergency room mindset kicked in.

’Patient’s chief complaint: Cold. Vitals: Sneezing. Environmental factors: 24 degrees, covered by a blanket.’

’If I rule out the possibility of organic disease, uh, there seems to be only one conclusion left: Teacher Shen is dropping a hint.’

But was it really a hint?

Jiang He hesitated.

After all, they hadn’t officially confirmed their relationship yet.

’If I misunderstand, wouldn’t I just turn into some presumptuous creep?’

Dammit!

Jiang He cursed silently.

’Medicine has clear guidelines, but why doesn’t this damn thing called love come with a single standard answer?’

After weighing the pros and cons, Jiang He decided to adopt the safest, most conservative treatment plan.

”Maybe your spot is right under the AC vent? How about I call the front desk and have them send up another blanket for you?”

Shen Yu heard his reply and nearly choked.

’Another blanket?’

’I’m in the same room as you, the mood is set, and you want to call the front desk for a blanket?’

Shen Yu was rendered utterly speechless.

In her mind, she landed two left hooks on Jiang He.

’What is wrong with this guy! Can’t he understand such an obvious hint? Is he really this dense, or is he just pretending!’

Shen Yu took a deep breath and said, ”Oh, that’s not necessary... It’s so late, the front desk must be busy. We shouldn’t bother them.”

After speaking, she sniffled again. ”Achoo—”

Jiang He grew even more conflicted.

’She doesn’t want another blanket, but she’s still sneezing. This doesn’t make any sense.’

’So, she really is hinting at something, right? It has to be, right?’

Jiang He stared at the ceiling, his brow furrowed.

On the bed next to him, Shen Yu waited for a full minute, but there was no follow-up from Jiang He.

’Fine, you’re not going to take the bait, are you?’

As someone who studied psychology, Shen Yu refused to believe she couldn’t handle one dense med school grad!

If one plan fails, come up with another!

Since playing the damsel in distress didn’t work, it was time to try the suspension bridge effect!

”Hey!!” Shen Yu cried out in alarm. ”What’s that thing over there?”

This time, Jiang He’s reaction was lightning-fast.

He threw off his blanket and flicked on the bedside lamp.

”What’s wrong?”

He followed Shen Yu’s gaze to the corner.

However, there was nothing in the corner.

Jiang He carefully checked behind the curtains, at the bathroom door, and even pulled open the wardrobe to take a look.

After confirming there was nothing out of the ordinary, he turned back to Shen Yu, who was sitting up in her bed.

”There’s nothing there. Maybe it was just the shadow of a tree from outside?”

Shen Yu hugged her blanket, curled into a ball. ”Phew... that scared me to death. I guess I was mistaken, but... why is this hotel so scary? It feels so gloomy and creepy.”

’He should get it now, right?! I literally said I’m scared!’

Shen Yu silently gave herself a thumbs-up and waited for Jiang He to play along.

Instead, Jiang He just felt a pang of sympathy.

He knew she easily felt insecure in unfamiliar places, especially in an empty room right after the lights were turned off.

So, he considered a solution with utmost seriousness and then said:

”Well, how about I turn on the bathroom light? We can sleep with it on. That way, the room will be brighter, and you won’t be scared. If that’s not enough, I can turn on the TV too. The flickering screen might help you feel more secure.”

Shen Yu: ”...”

If thoughts could kill, Jiang He would have been diced into a million pieces by now.

’Sleep with the lights on? How could you even think of that! Who wants to sleep with the lights on with you!’

Shen Yu once again tore Jiang He a new one in her mind:

’Idiot! You complete idiot!’

Shen Yu: ”No, that’s okay... I can’t sleep with the lights on. I’ll just try to get over it myself.”

Jiang He nodded. ”Alright, I’m turning off the light then. Don’t be scared. I’m right here. Call out if you hear anything.”

Another plan, foiled.

Shen Yu was starting to feel exhausted.

She felt her pride had been seriously challenged.

’This guy... it’s not a matter of him not understanding hints anymore. It’s like nothing can get through to him!’

After a moment of silence, Shen Yu, refusing to admit defeat, busted out her ultimate move. ”Huh? That’s weird...”

Jiang He: ”What’s wrong?

Shen Yu: ”My mattress... why is it wet?”

”Huh?”

Jiang He froze.

’Is the Westin Hotel’s hygiene really this bad?’

”What do you mean?” Jiang He asked. ”How could it be wet?”

Shen Yu answered innocently, ”I don’t know. It seems like there’s a leak somewhere, and it dripped onto my bed. It’s a pretty big spot, and it’s cold and damp.”

She paused for a moment, as if in the middle of a difficult internal struggle.

Two seconds later, she said, ”Dr. Jiang... Um, if you don’t mind, could I sleep over on your side?”

’She’d finally said it!’

Shen Yu felt that now that she’d been so direct, there was no way he could refuse her again.

But Jiang He said with a serious expression, ”How about we switch beds then? You take my bed, and I’ll sleep on yours. I don’t mind the dampness. I can just put down a bath towel and make do for the night.”

Shen Yu: ”...”

She closed her eyes and let out a long, slow breath.

’This man is impossible!’

She completely gave up on playing games with this man.

She finally understood: playing this push-and-pull game with someone like Jiang He was just pure self-torture.

So, Shen Yu sighed and decided to just go for a frontal assault. ”Oh, never mind that. Why don’t we... just sleep together? I trust you won’t try anything. Your bed is big enough for both of us. Besides, your leg is injured. How could I let a patient sleep on a wet mattress?”
