The Hidden Monster of House Vale

Chapter 79: Chapter - 79 - The Monk’s Awakening

Before Lucien had even entered the chamber, every Realm Master present had already reached their breaking point. They had been trapped within these accursed walls for what felt like an eternity—days bleeding into weeks, their patience eroded by the dungeon’s insidious influence. The stagnation had driven them to the edge of madness, their carefully cultivated composure fracturing under the weight of hopelessness.

They were supposed to be paragons of emotional control. Realm Masters trained for decades to achieve perfect equilibrium, to remain calm and collected even in the face of certain death. But this dungeon cared nothing for their training. It feasted on their despair like a parasite, amplifying every negative emotion until their minds teetered on the brink of collapse.

And then Lucien had arrived.

The moment he revealed his power—a magnitude so vast it dwarfed their own pitiful abilities like a mountain overshadowing pebbles—something inside them shattered. Hope, that fragile thing they had clung to, evaporated in an instant. Some responded with explosive rage, their fury barely contained. Others withered under the weight of bitter jealousy, their eyes burning with resentment toward this impossibly powerful stranger who had appeared from nowhere.

But when Thora surrendered to him without hesitation, the room grew deathly quiet. It wasn’t just any woman who had chosen Lucien—it was Thora, whose beauty had been the subject of whispered admiration and barely concealed desire among the Realm Masters since the moment she’d been thrown into this nightmare. Her fiancé, who had protected her tirelessly throughout their imprisonment, watched with widening eyes as the woman he loved crossed the chamber without a backward glance.

She didn’t even pause to consider her decision.

The betrayal hit him like a physical blow. His carefully maintained composure—already strained to its breaking point—shattered into a thousand jagged pieces. Raw emotion erupted from him in a wave that seemed to make the very air tremble. His love, his devotion, his years of sacrifice meant nothing in the face of this newcomer’s overwhelming power.

Lucien observed all of this with cold calculation. He had recognized the nature of this dungeon almost immediately—the architecture, the suffocating atmosphere, the way negative emotions seemed to thicken the air like rot. Demonic dungeons were brutal, unforgiving places that demanded sacrifice as currency for progress. Only through death could advancement be achieved, and Lucien understood with grim certainty that these Realm Masters needed to die.

All of them.

So he started the war.

Thora’s fiancé—his name was something the others had long since forgotten, or perhaps they simply didn’t care to remember—underwent a transformation that would haunt the survivors forever. His body contorted, bones cracking and reforming as pure jealousy and hatred consumed him from within. Flesh warped into hardened carapace. Eyes blazed with infernal fire. What emerged from the chrysalis of his shattered sanity was no longer human—it was a monster given form by his inability to accept the betrayal.

The other Realm Masters followed suit, their own negative emotions finding monstrous expression as the dungeon fed on their despair. The chamber filled with abominations—twisted parodies of humanity given unholy life by their own darkest impulses.

Lucien didn’t hesitate.

He launched himself toward the ceiling, moving with supernatural grace as he ascended toward the massive chandelier where bodies hung like macabre decorations. From his elevated position, he had a clear view of the entire chamber—every transformed Realm Master, every writhing abomination, every corner where shadow might hide a threat.

”Grave Spear Rain,” he intoned, his voice carrying the weight of absolute authority.

Millions of ethereal spears materialized around him, forming a protective dome of deadly energy that radiated outward in all directions. Each spear was a masterpiece of destruction, honed by countless battles and refined through systematic slaughter. They struck with unerring accuracy, piercing through monstrous flesh and corrupted forms with sickening precision.

The transformed Realm Masters fell in droves, their roars of rage cut short as Lucien’s attack found their vitals. The chamber became a charnel house of gore and wasted potential.

Only Thora’s fiancé remained standing.

Thora watched the carnage unfold from her position near the table, her breath catching in her throat. She had known Lucien was powerful—his arrival had made that abundantly clear. But this? This was beyond anything she had imagined. He moved like a force of nature given human form, each attack precisely calculated for maximum devastation. His enemies fell before him like wheat before a scythe, and there was something terrible and beautiful about the efficiency of his violence.

She felt a twinge of something—regret? sorrow?—for her former fiancé as she watched him struggle against the impossible odds. But only a twinge. Her loyalty had shifted the moment she’d laid eyes on Lucien, recognizing in him the only path to survival.

Lucien floated toward Thora’s fiancé, his eyes blazing with an otherworldly light that promised judgment. He descended like an avenging angel, his hand raised to deliver the final blow. The motion was almost casual—a simple slash that bisected the monster from crown to pelvis. For Lucien, it was nothing. Just another obstacle removed.

”Consume,” he commanded, his power reaching out like invisible tendrils.

”Soul Void.”

The technique activated, drawing the souls of the fallen toward him like moths to a flame. He absorbed them all—every Realm Master, every transformed abomination, every fragment of consciousness that had once called this chamber home.

[Congratulations! Demonic Soul has been consumed]

Lucien’s eyes flickered with interest. He had consumed many souls in his journey, but demonic essence was a rare delicacy. ”Oh, a demonic soul,” he mused, his voice barely above a whisper. ”How intriguing. I’ve never consumed one before.”

Just minutes ago, this room had been filled with Realm Masters discussing strategies and making desperate plans for escape. Now, only bodies remained—silent testament to the power of a single, determined cultivator.

As if responding to the slaughter, a door materialized on the far wall where none had existed before. Its appearance was silent but unmistakable: a path, finally revealed. ℯℯ𝑙.

”As I suspected,” Lucien murmured. ”This demonic dungeon requires sacrifice. That’s why they were trapped here, unable to progress. They didn’t understand the price of freedom.”

He turned to face Thora, who was staring at him with wide eyes. Fear warred with relief in her expression—fear at what she had witnessed, relief that she had chosen correctly. Her instincts had saved her life.

Lucien’s gaze swept over her with clinical assessment. ”I can see your astral energy is fluctuating. You’ve been surviving on nothing but your own reserves for days, haven’t you?”

Thora nodded shakily. She had been sustaining herself through sheer willpower, her cultivation base slowly withering without proper replenishment. Her clothes were disheveled, her hair in disarray—the physical manifestation of her deteriorating condition.

”You need an energy transfer,” Lucien stated flatly. ”I can feel the strain in your meridians. If left unchecked, your core will collapse entirely.”

[Several Hours Later]

The same table where Thora had once sat with her fiancé and the other Realm Masters, discussing desperate plans for survival, now bore witness to an entirely different kind of communion. Bodies lay scattered around the chamber like forgotten refuse, but neither Lucien nor Thora paid them any mind. Their focus was entirely consumed by each other.

Lucien, a peak Spirit Forge Realm Master, and Thora, a peak Vein Opening Realm practitioner, were engaged in the most primal form of dual cultivation. The disparity in their power levels made the transfer a difficult endeavor—one realm of difference meant Thora struggled to accept Lucien’s essence, her body fighting against the overwhelming influx of yang energy even as her soul craved it.

Their robes lay scattered across the floor, discarded in their desperate haste. There had been no time for ceremony or careful preparation; Thora’s need was too urgent, and Lucien’s approach was always direct. His fingers had found the fastenings of her robes, and they had simply... unraveled.

Lucien positioned her with an authority that brooked no argument, arranging her body in ways she had never imagined possible. Each movement was purposeful, each adjustment designed to maximize the flow of energy between them. The first contact sent a jolt through her entire being—not just physical sensation, but a spiritual impact that resonated deep within her core.

Every hour, her core filled further. With each union, her cultivation base expanded, her meridians widening to accommodate the flood of yang essence. The initial resistance gave way to overwhelming warmth, her body finally surrendering to the inevitable. She found herself not just enduring the experience, but actively craving it—Each surge of power reshaping her very being, rebuilding her from the inside out.

They left no surface in the chamber untouched by their cultivation. The table, the floor, the walls—all bore witness to their communion. Thora’s cultivation base raged like a captive storm, her yin energy thrashing against its confines, demanding release.

Lucien grabbed her wrists, his grip firm but not painful, and pressed his palms against hers. The moment skin met skin, the world exploded.

Golden yang fire erupted from his core like a supernova, colliding with her silver torrent of yin energy. The energies didn’t simply merge or peacefully combine—they waged war. Spiraling tornadoes of spiritual light whipped around them, carving deep grooves into the stone floor. Her hair snapped wildly in the spiritual gale while his robes billowed and tore at the seams.

”Hold,” he growled, his voice carrying the weight of absolute command. His spiritual pressure crashed into hers like a tidal wave against a cliff, testing her limits.

She refused to break.

Her yin surged back, icy and furious, wrapping around his blazing meridians like a serpent coiling around its prey. It squeezed, cooled, demanded submission from his rampant yang. He groaned—not from pain, but from the primal shock of being truly met. Their auras locked together, grinding against each other like tectonic plates colliding, each impact sending shockwaves through their core.

The spirit stones around them detonated one by one, unable to withstand the pressure of their combined power.

And then—something gave.

It wasn’t surrender. It was fusion.

Their energies finally found common ground, intertwining in a dance as old as cultivation itself. Yang and yin became one, not as master and servant, but as true partners. The transformation happened multiple times throughout the night, and each time Thora’s aura shone with transcendent beauty—a silver glow that seemed to purify everything it touched.

Her core, once depleted and fragile, now pulsed with renewed vitality.

Afterward, they lay together on the table, breathing heavily, Thora still panting from their earlier cultivation. Lucien stared at the ceiling, his expression thoughtful, already planning their next move.

”My lord,” Thora ventured hesitantly, ”what is your name?”

He turned his head slightly, fixing her with those piercing eyes. ”I am Lucien Vale. And you? Feeling stronger now?”

Thora’s cheeks flushed crimson—partly from embarrassment, partly from the lingering warmth of their union. ”Yes, Lord Lucien. I didn’t even realize it during our... fusion, but I’ve had a breakthrough.”

”Good,” he said simply. ”I have a yang physique. It tends to accelerate a partner’s cultivation when properly channeled.” A faint smile played at his lips—warmer than she had expected, given his earlier ruthlessness. ”We’ve rested enough. Your energy is stable now. Let’s go.”

He rose from the table and began gathering his robes without ceremony. Thora watched him dress, her heart skipping beats she knew she shouldn’t be feeling. To Lucien, this had been nothing but an energy transfer—a practical transaction between cultivators but not common. But for her, it had been something more.

He hadn’t asked for her family name. He hadn’t inquired about her homeland or her position there. Unlike everyone else in her life, who treated her according to her status and lineage, Lucien seemed entirely indifferent to such trivialities. He saw her—just her—and that simplicity was more intoxicating than any proclamation of love.

She dressed quickly and followed him toward the newly appeared door.

The moment they crossed the threshold, the world shifted.

A vast chamber stretched before them, dominated by withered trees that clawed at the impossibly high ceiling. In the center stood a giant tree, its branches touching the stone above like skeletal fingers reaching for salvation. The air was thick with decay and the scent of ancient magic.

Beneath the tree sat a monk.

He wore dark robes that seemed to absorb the ambient light, thick beads of what might have been bone or obsidian around his neck. His head was completely bald, devoid of even the suggestion of hair. But it wasn’t his appearance that made Lucien’s breath catch—it was what his spiritual senses revealed.

This was no ordinary monk.

The man raised his head, eyes opening to reveal depths of ancient malevolence. He stared directly at Lucien with the recognition of one predator meeting another.

Lucien’s eyes widened fractionally. He could feel it now—the unmistakable signature of the demonic realm. This monk was a demon. A real demon, from the actual demonic realm, not just some corrupted mortal.

The monk rose gracefully, his movements fluid with centuries of practice. ”Finally,” he intoned, his voice echoing strangely in the chamber. ”It’s time.”

A bo staff materialized in his hands—not conjured, but simply produced from somewhere within his robes. It was thick, made of dark metal that gleamed with an oily sheen, covered in intricate carvings and short spikes that seemed to writhe when he moved.

Lucien backflipped immediately, narrowly avoiding the first strike. The monk pressed his advantage, swinging the staff with inhuman speed. Lucien continued dodging, his body moving faster than most cultivators could track.

This monk’s cultivation level must be peak Spirit Forge Realm, Lucien calculated, or possibly higher.

He activated Shadow Predator, his form dissolving into the darkness between moments, reappearing in the shadows at the edge of the chamber. But the monk was relentless, his senses somehow tracking Lucien even through his stealth technique.

Lucien studied the weapon with new appreciation. The bo staff was no ordinary instrument of combat—it was a masterpiece of demonic craftsmanship. The carvings pulsed with trapped souls; the spikes dripped with congealed malice. He wanted it.

The monk’s attacks shifted, utilizing Demonic Vajra Shattering—a technique that could fracture bones even through spiritual protection. Each strike that connected sent cracks spider-webbing through Lucien’s skeleton, but his regeneration power worked overtime, mending the damage almost as quickly as it occurred.

He’s fast, Lucien admitted. But I’m faster.

He appeared behind the monk in a blur of motion, planting a brutal kick that sent the demon soaring through the air. Before the monk could recover, Lucien used Shadow Predator again, appearing above him in the air and driving him back toward the ground with another devastating blow.

The monk was impressive. Lucien was relentless.

”I think it’s time to end this,” Lucien declared.

The monk’s response was immediate. His aura flared with black energy as he unleashed his ultimate technique. ”Black Scripture Annihilation!”

Demonic characters materialized in the air around Lucien—ancient symbols of destruction that pulsed with corrupt power. They surrounded him completely, forming a cage of malevolent scripture that detonated with catastrophic force.

The explosion wasn’t merely physical. It attacked the soul and body simultaneously, designed to annihilate both in a single devastating blow.

When the smoke cleared, Thora gasped in horror.

Lucien stood at the center of the blast zone, but he was barely recognizable. Both of his hands were completely obliterated—nothing remained but smoking stumps. Half his face had been destroyed, revealing bone and charred flesh beneath. His stomach was torn open on one side, organs visible through the gaping wound.
