A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

June 18th, The Twenty Eighth Year of Jiayuan, an auspicious day suitable for marriage, betrothal, and seeking good fortune.

This day is when the Fourth Princess of the Great Chu Dynasty, Yi Zhao, leaves for the residence of General Shi.

During the Chen Hour, the sky outside was already bright.

Yue Er was still soundly asleep, with an ice basin placed in the bedroom, keeping it cool and comfortable. She was sleeping sweetly.

The wetnurse nannies, led by Sister Fan, were restless from the night before. Seeing the princess still asleep, they grew anxious and went forward to wake her up.

”Princess!”

”Princess, quickly get up!”

In the past, Sister Fan could never handle Yue Er, often getting scolded for overstepping her bounds.

Now, she could not care as much.

After all, for the princess’s grand wedding, missing the auspicious time could mean losing one’s head.

After calling several times and seeing that the princess was still motionless, Sister Fan, gathering her courage, directly lifted the light quilt off Yue Er.

”Princess!”

”Princess, please get up quickly!”

The other two wetnurse nannies, seeing Sister Fan’s actions, also gathered their courage and stepped forward.

”Princess!”

”Princess, if you don’t get up now, you’ll miss the auspicious time!”

...

After their persistent efforts, Yue Er finally opened her drowsy eyes.

”What’s going on? Why are you making a racket?” she said somewhat impatiently.

Sister Fan smiled and replied.

”Princess, the Empress personally instructed yesterday that you must rise and dress by the Chen Hour!”

”The Empress will be coming soon, so you should hurry and get up too!”

The impatience on Yue Er’s face gradually faded.

She lazily yawned and then slowly got up.

Next came washing up, changing clothes, and then applying makeup.

During this time, more and more people gathered in Fengyu Pavilion.

Xia Ruqing arrived first with the four consorts, followed by several esteemed Old Princess Consorts and Ladies of Enjoin from the royal clan who arrived one after another.

The Fengyu Pavilion, which was usually quiet, was now full of people.

Everyone gathered joyfully, exchanging all sorts of auspicious words.

”I heard Junior General Shi, even at a young age, has followed his father to achieve military success in the southwest, clearly a pillar of the imperial court!”

”Indeed, having such a talented child in both literature and martial arts is rare! The Fourth Princess is truly fortunate!”

”Oh, look at what you’re saying, it should be said that Junior General Shi is the fortunate one, to marry our Fourth Princess, that fortune is beyond the reach of ordinary people!”

”Right, right, oh look at my mouth, I’m truly getting senile!”

Everyone chimed in, speaking and laughing, causing the Fengyu Pavilion to be filled with cheerful laughter.

After half an hour of careful dressing, Yue Er’s makeup was mostly done, with only the hairdressing ceremony remaining.

Xia Ruqing watched as her daughter changed into the bright red brocade wedding attire, tears nearly welled up in her eyes.

’After today, Yue Er will belong to another family!’

’She can no longer live in the palace, can no longer cling by my side. There will be more important people to accompany her, and I... will only be able to watch her from afar, occasionally meeting, but never like before!’

Thinking of these things made her heart feel stuffed with cotton.

Joy mixed with bitterness, sadness mingled with anticipation, a hundred kinds of emotions surged in her heart, indescribable.

”Madam!”

A Quan Furen, who was an esteemed elderly Imperial Noble Consort, respectfully called her and handed over a carved box of gold-painted sandalwood.

”The auspicious time is near, it’s time for the hairdressing ceremony!”

Xia Ruqing nodded, cleared her throat, took the box, and slowly walked to Yue Er’s back with a delicate comb drawn from it.

Looking at Yue Er in her phoenix crown and red robe, soon to become another person’s wife, Xia Ruqing’s heart ached as if cut by a knife.

Suddenly, she recalled her daughter’s newborn appearance.

Back then, she was still a soft, fair little bundle.

How, in the blink of an eye, has she grown into this elegant and spirited young lady, how could it have happened so quickly?

These past ten-plus years, too fast indeed! Truly, a fleeting moment... reluctant, all of it is reluctance.

”Madam?” Zi Yue gently tugged at her sleeve.

Xia Ruqing sniffed and suddenly came back to her senses.

”Understood!”

She slowly lifted the comb, her other hand smoothing Yue Er’s long hair to her waist, softly reciting.

”First comb till the end!”

”Second comb... may respect and harmony last!”

”Third comb... may descendants fill the land, fourth comb...”

Xia Ruqing spoke slowly, her voice trembling, a lump in her throat.

It took great effort not to burst into tears.

Once the tenth comb was finished, the wedding matron responsible for hairdressing gathered all of Yue Er’s waist-length hair.

This signified that henceforth she was a married woman, all her hair to be styled into an updo, the married woman’s style.

”Truly fast!”

She bit back her emotions and remarked.

”Mother!”

Yue Er was also teary-eyed.

Though she often complained about her mother’s strictness, she undoubtedly knew how much her mother loved her.

Therefore... thinking about no longer being able to live in the palace and accompany her mother, her heart felt heavy too.

”Don’t worry, I will come see you whenever I can!”

The wetnurse nannies and palace maids around couldn’t help but twitch their lips.

’Princess, it seems you have no official duties, speaking as if you were very busy!’

’Actually, everyone knows just how leisurely it is after marriage, you won’t even have to attend classes!’

But Xia Ruqing and her daughter were immersed in the sorrow of parting.

She nodded.

”Yes!”

”Yue Er, don’t be willful, understand filial duty to your in-laws, frequently come back to visit!”

”And, whatever you like to eat, like to play, remember to take it with you!”

”Servants you favor can also be brought out, palace maids and the like, your mother will select the best for you, you can rest assured!”

Xia Ruqing instructed one by one.

Yue Er nodded while holding back her tears.

”Mother, please take care of your health too, father is always coughing, persuade him more, and you, feeling the cold, spend more time in the Hot Spring Palace...”

Once again, tears almost spilled from Xia Ruqing’s eyes, the mother-daughter duo tearfully bid farewell, evoking emotions deeply.

However...

Zi Yue, beside them, couldn’t help but pull on her sleeve.

”Madam, the Princess’s Mansion is just two streets away from the palace, you could be there in the blink of an eye!”

Ying Luo also twitched her lips from the side.

”Princess, it wouldn’t even take you a quarter of an hour to enter the palace...”

Both the mother and daughter felt a twinge of embarrassment.

Yet, well... marrying off a daughter, it is indeed a melancholic affair.

Shedding a few tears is never wrong.

The mother and daughter continued their tearful farewell, the palace attendants around them covertly wiped away sweat.

After the farewell, the auspicious time was nearly reached.

Finally, Yue Er was veiled in red, quietly sitting by the bedside.

Xia Ruqing hadn’t even steadied her emotions when an eunuch outside loudly announced.

”The auspicious time has arrived, the princess departs!”

As soon as the words fell, there was a cacophony of voices and the sound of hurried footsteps outside.

Moments later, a large wave of people, accompanied by the newly appointed Prince Consort, rushed into the room.

The already crowded inner chamber became even more packed, the atmosphere reaching unprecedented levels of excitement.

...

The process of a princess leaving the palace, especially a legitimate princess, was particularly intricate.

In short.
