Chapter 1015: Chapter 1015: Not My Business, Not My Concern

Zi Su caught her breath and said.

”I don’t know either, maybe... they’ve changed their minds!”

Xia Ruqing put down what she was holding, got up, walked around, and nodded thoughtfully.

”It’s possible!”

Zi Yue, standing nearby, looked a bit grave.

”Miss, is it possible that... they look down on the Third Miss?”

Xia Ruqing nodded again.

”That’s also possible!”

Zi Su furrowed her brows.

”Miss, what are they thinking, could it be... they want to take the Third Miss as a concubine?”

The Main Wife was replaced.

If the Third Miss kept insisting, she would surely end up as a concubine.

No matter how noble she became a consort, she would still be an elevated concubine, right?

Xia Ruqing thought for a while and then shook her head.

”I have no idea!”

She circled the inner room, suddenly realized.

”Does any of this... have anything to do with me?”

First of all, she had nothing to do with that woman.

Secondly, even if that woman was related to the original person, they were foes.

There’s no need to recall how the original person died, or the miserable days her brother lived through.

Even if the original person was here, she’d never forget the deadly and shameful enmity of the past.

Helping her is out of the question; not stepping on her when she’s down is already quite charitable.

Lastly.

When Xia Ruyi first met her, she solemnly vowed that they would go their separate ways in the future.

So, based on all the above.

What reason does she have to be involved?

Whoever wants to play the role of a moralistic white lotus, let them; she’s not concerned.

When something doesn’t concern her, she keeps her distance, whatever happens is none of her business!

Having sorted it out in her mind, she sat back down on the bed.

”Zi Yue, Zi Su”

”In the future, don’t get involved in Xia Ruyi’s matters, and I don’t want to hear about them!”

”Whatever they want to do, let them do it!”

Zi Yue and Zi Su exchanged glances and replied in unison.

”Yes!”

”Understood!”

Xia Ruqing nodded, looking out the window.

”It’s not early anymore, I’ll go check on Yue Er!”

”Okay!”

Zi Yue and Zi Su quickly smiled and followed her.

Since then, no one mentioned anything about Xia Ruyi again.

...

Life in the palace was leisurely and carefree.

In his spare time, Zhao Junyao would come to see her and the children.

Henger and Yeye began to get busier with their studies.

Most of the time, it was just Yue Er by her side.

On good weather days, she’d take Yue Er to the Imperial Garden to enjoy the flowers, read books, play in the water, and fish.

The little girl would be a year and a half in two months.

Loved dearly by her father and mother, the Little Princess was becoming increasingly lively.

Occasionally, they would run into Consort Cheng and Consort Hui in the Imperial Garden.

They were all friendly, teasing each other.

Seeing the little girl with large eyes and long eyelashes as active as a sprite, they couldn’t help but adore her.

Especially Consort Cheng, who never wanted to let her go once she held her.

In her words,

”I just regret that I wasn’t lucky enough to have a princess myself.”

Though she did have the Second Prince.

But the Second Prince had already started studying and practicing martial arts, hardly staying in the harem.

Consort Hui had a daughter, the Empress had a daughter, even Consort Shih Pin’s Third Princess was as beautiful as a fairy.

And there was only her in the spacious Yichun Palace.

How could she not envy?

Every time, Consort Hui would jokingly say,

”Isn’t there still the Eldest Princess in Yichun Palace? How can it be just you alone?”

Consort Cheng would quickly reply with a laugh.

”The Eldest Princess is a big girl now, the Emperor specifically arranged for a Sister to teach her, how could I dare disturb her?”

Consort Hui would just laugh.

”That’s right, I almost forgot about that!”

After a while, she’d lead the topic to elsewhere.

When it came to the Eldest Princess, they all tacitly stopped mentioning her.

But actually...

Since Honored Lady Dou was moved away, the Emperor decreed that she was not allowed to see the Eldest Princess again.

There’s no need to say how devastated Honored Lady Dou was.

The Eldest Princess didn’t even want to see her mother consort, didn’t even make a fuss.

She just stayed in the residence, diligently studying with the Sister everyday.

Learning palace rules and etiquette, learning manners, poetry, calligraphy, and such.

But embroidery work was never picked up again.

Perhaps... she really wasn’t interested in doing it.

As for her mother consort.

She also wanted to visit.

But thinking of how her mother consort forced her to do needlework with that dreadful and fierce look, she immediately wanted to retreat.

No matter how much her servants persuaded her, she remained unmoved.

When she didn’t want to go, she just didn’t go!

...

The mistresses in the rank of consort were not ones to cause trouble.

The lower-ranked and the Honored Ladies were even less daring to cause trouble.

Of course, Consort Shih Pin was not content, but despite her discontent, she was just a minor rank and dared not do anything openly.

So overall,

The harem remained peaceful and harmonious.

Consort Hui and Consort Cheng helped manage palace affairs.

The concubines didn’t come to pay their respects daily, so she could still enjoy a lazy morning.

Moreover, in the palace, there was no one who could bully her into kneeling anymore.

Xia Ruqing suddenly felt much freer in the harem!

Go wherever she wants?

Eat whatever she wants!

Laugh however she wants.

Do whatever she wants?

No one would easily punish or blame her!

Outwardly, the Empress Dowager was still above her.

But in reality, the Empress Dowager was just a bird in a gilded cage.

She was not free to decide where to go, what to say, or what to do.

Even though her relationship with the Emperor had eased a bit over the past two years.

But the Empress Dowager could no longer stir up any storms, as she was surrounded by the Emperor’s people.

Respected, but also kept at a distance, her position was just like that.

An old lady who couldn’t even protect herself certainly wouldn’t be bored enough to bother her.

So...

This life is truly without fault!

Xia Ruqing sat in the courtyard, enjoying the warm breeze, watching the blood-red sunset, and uttered a satisfied sigh.

”It’s so nice!”

In the presence of such a beautiful scene, a more literary woman might compose a poem.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t very talented and only thought of one line.

”The setting sun is infinitely good, only it’s near dusk!”

It seemed that the mood wasn’t quite right.

Never mind, regardless, it’s still a poem, isn’t it?!

She happily recited the poem while swinging on the swing.

This little life was as sweet as honey!

Just when she was oblivious in her delight, suddenly someone gave her a strong push from behind.

”Ah!”

With her exclamation, the swing soared high up.

In her flustered confusion, she turned to see Zhao Junyao standing behind her, looking at her with a mischievous grin.

”Emperor!”

”It’s so high!”

”Emperor, it’s too high!”

Though she came to sit here every day, she hadn’t actually swung this high in a long time.

Now, suddenly so high up, she was very scared.

Zhao Junyao stood below, smiling and said.

”Don’t be afraid!”

”If you fall, I’ll catch you!”

After saying that, he gave another push, even higher!

Xia Ruqing was so frightened she quickly shut her eyes.

”Ah!”

”Emperor, it’s too high!”

”You used to swing even higher, why are you scared now?”

Xia Ruqing’s face turned pale.

”Did I?”

”I forgot!”

”Emperor, please let me down, I’m scared...”

Her voice trembled on that last word.

Seeing that she was truly frightened, Zhao Junyao took his chance, leapt up to hold her securely, pretending to be disdainful.

”Why are you scared? You won’t fall!”
