Chapter 987: Chapter 987: Third Princess

The Tenth Year of Jiayuan, early morning of the eighteenth day of the twelfth lunar month.

After nearly a day of effort by Xia Ruqing, the fourth Princess of the Great Chu Dynasty finally made her cry upon entry into the world.

When Xia Ruqing heard the wetnurse nanny congratulating that it was a Princess.

She felt a sense of ’fulfillment in life’.

She weakly gave a satisfied smile, only taking a glance before falling asleep.

At this moment.

Zhao Junyao, who stayed up all night, was attending the morning court.

In the court hall, the ministers were quite disheartened.

Originally, the icy snow of the twelfth month was cold enough.

Yet the emperor sitting on the dragon throne had a freezing expression.

With a look that said, ’Don’t bother me unless the sky is falling’.

Everyone kept their heads down.

Reflecting on their actions of recent times.

The conclusion they came to:

Lately, everybody in and out of the court has been well-behaved, no one has caused any trouble.

Then the Emperor’s expression...

”Those with matters to report, do so. If not, the court is adjourned...” Li Shengan called loudly.

Zhao Junyao’s expression grew even colder.

Originally, some officials contemplated reporting matters.

But seeing this expression, they retreated scared.

It seemed that the Emperor was in a foul mood; better not to get in the way.

Li Shengan repeatedly asked several times.

But no one dared to step forward.

Thus, Zhao Junyao waved his big hand satisfaction.

”Dismissed!”

And then he strode away.

Leaving the ministers exchanging glances.

No one dared to speak, they only exchanged eye contact among factions.

’Did someone upset the Emperor?’

’No!’

’Any news?’

’None, either!’

Like headless flies, guessing wildly without conclusions, each dispersed.

Meanwhile.

Leaving the court, Li Shengan immediately passed the news up.

”Emperor, the Noble Consort gave birth to a Princess half an hour ago, both mother and daughter are safe!”

Zhao Junyao’s heart surged with excitement at these words.

Without even returning to Zhaochen Palace, he headed straight to Duanning Palace.

Inside Duanning Palace.

Xia Ruqing had already been cleaned up and moved back to her bedroom.

The Little Princess was washed and wrapped.

Earlier, she cried for a bit, now the wetnurse was trying to feed her.

Zhao Junyao strode in without notification.

Ignoring all the kneeling greetings.

Couldn’t even spare a glance at the child, heading straight to the inner chamber.

”Qingqing...”

”Greetings to the Emperor!”

Zi Yue and Zi Su knelt together.

”Rise!”

Zhao Junyao waved his hand and sat by the bedside.

Seeing Xia Ruqing soundly asleep, he did not disturb her, nor did he speak.

Only holding her hand and looking tenderly for a while.

Then went out to see the child.

Zi Yue and Zi Su exchanged glances.

”The Emperor doesn’t look very happy!”

”I think not; the Emperor is very happy!”

”Then why is the Emperor not smiling, not saying a word!”

”I don’t know... maybe he’s too happy!”

The Little Princess.

Zhao Junyao gazed at the tiny girl in the wetnurse’s arms.

Only feeling he couldn’t look enough.

Though still wrinkled, her features displayed an exquisite charm.

With thick brows and big eyes very much like Xia Ruqing, the nose and mouth resembled him.

Her nose, sharp and elegant, not without a heroic touch.

Her lips thin and sharp, outlines tough yet fair.

His heart was overwhelmed with excitement.

’Qingqing, we finally have a daughter!’

’I now have another Little Princess!’

Although there were already three Princesses.

Unfortunately, The Eldest Princess was not to his liking at all.

The Second Princess, lively and lovable, still leaves some regret.

After all, lively and lovable girls are numerous in ordinary families.

The Third Princess goes without mentioning.

Now...

This exquisite, graceful Little Princess truly captured his heart.

Only just born, she already brought him much joy!

...

The Emperor has many ways to show favor.

Lavish gifts are definitely the most direct, and most envy-inducing.

By morning, Xia Ruqing gave birth to a daughter.

Before noon.

Wave after wave of treasures, gems, rare herbs, tribute silks, and many other good things.

Flowed into Duanning Palace like water.

If not for Li Shengan gently reminding.

Zhao Junyao would have moved his entire Zhaochen Palace storeroom to give to Qingqing, of course, his treasured little daughter.

Even so.

Xiao Xizi and his team were busy almost half a day, registering and organizing these gifts.

The Empress Dowager sent gifts in the afternoon, valuable yet proper.

Empress Dowager Zhen also joined the fun.

Still unclear what they were up to.

Previously, inquiries outside the palace yielded no valuable news, only cautiously responding with no change!

Then came the people from the harem.

No matter how stifled they felt, they had to wear smiling faces to present congratulatory gifts.

No choice.

Three princes, one princess, favored for so many years.

If nothing unexpected happens.

That empty throne will be hers.

In the future, everyone must seek survival under her, who dares not curry favor?

Thus, in the evening, Duanning Palace, just tidied, was once again filled with congratulatory gifts.

...

The eighteenth day of the twelfth month.

Duanning Palace was busy for a whole day.

Only when night fell did it finally quiet down.

Xia Ruqing slept the whole day and had not awakened.

The Little Princess full and asleep as well.

The servants were also utterly exhausted.

Except for those on night duty, the others went to rest.

A night of peaceful sleep.

The next morning, everyone energetically resumed their work.

Serving a favored, promising master in the harem, the work has energy, and the days have hope.

After sleeping for a day and night, Xia Ruqing slowly awakened.

With Zi Yue and Zi Su both watching, they hurried forward upon seeing her awake.

”Ladyship, you’re awake?”

”Ladyship, are you feeling any discomfort?”

”Quick, call the Imperial Physician!”

Immediately followed by another bout of busyness.

Since the Little Princess was born, Duanning Palace had been in chaos.

Only after the Princess’s third-day cleansing ceremony did things gradually fall into place.

As she was still in confinement, too weak to move.

The third-day ceremony, Consort Hui helped handle it.

Consort Hui also busy with New Year’s preparations, her hands were full.

Eventually, only a few tables were set in Duanning Palace as a simple celebration, where concubines sat briefly and then dispersed.

Afterwards, Consort Hui specially came to apologize.

”Ladyship, it’s my incompetence, wronged the Little Princess!”

Xia Ruqing smiled and shook her head.

”Everything’s there, how is it wronged?!”

”If fortunate next year at the full-moon feast, first-birthday feast, if lucky to assist Ladyship further, I’ll make it up then, alright?”

”This time, my hands are truly full!”

Xia Ruqing waved her hand.

”No need to mind it, I find it very good!”

”Children, if luck is too strong, afraid she can’t bear it!”

Consort Hui laughed.

”As long as Ladyship does not blame me, I’m relieved!”

After speaking, she sat for a while, then tactfully left.

After she left, Xia Ruqing also couldn’t support herself, turning over to continue sleeping.
