Chapter 982: Chapter 982: A Word of Advice 2

Xia Ruqing glanced up and down before asking.

”Are you Xia Ruyi?”

Xia Ruyi snorted lightly through her nose, letting out a humph.

”Oh!”

”Truly deserving of being the eldest daughter of the Xia Family, the Noble Consort of the palace!”

”You’ve soared so high that you no longer recognize your own sisters. It’s really quite amusing!”

Her attitude was utterly disdainful.

Zi Su watched with a surge of anger.

”Insolent! In the presence of the Noble Consort, why do you not kneel?”

Xia Ruyi wasn’t afraid at all, she snorted and lazily knelt down.

”Greetings to the Noble Consort! Paying my respects!”

Then she got up on her own.

”How about now? Satisfied?”

”You...!”

Zi Su was fuming.

Xia Ruqing’s anger surged as well.

But for the sake of the bigger picture, she decided to endure a bit longer.

She just casually waved.

”Zi Su, come over here!”

Zi Su walked over to Xia Ruqing’s side, feeling very aggrieved, and stood quietly without speaking.

Xia Ruyi appeared more complacent.

She wore the expression of ’I have someone to back me now, none of you can touch me’.

Xia Ruqing didn’t bother beating around the bush and went straight to the point.

”What do you want?”

Xia Ruyi, with eyes looking down on everyone, replied disdainfully.

”What I want isn’t for the Noble Consort to lecture me!”

”After all, you’re not going to help me, are you?”

Xia Ruqing sneered.

”Help you? What is it you want?”

”What do I want?”

”Whatever the sisters have, naturally, I also want.”

Xia Ruyi held a very haughty expression.

Her face was full of ’I’m not any worse than you’.

Xia Ruqing thought for a moment and spoke.

”I know you want status!”

”But for the sake of us both coming from the Xia Family, I still advise you!”

”It’s fine to seek status!”

”But attaching yourself to Prince Zhe’s Mansion and Empress Dowager Zhen is not a good path! You’d better be careful!”

Xia Ruyi burst into laughter, as if she heard the biggest joke in the world.

”Ha ha, not a good path?”

”Elder sister! Then what is a good path?”

”Is being trampled into the dirt by you and second sister a good path?”

”Or is marrying off to some insignificant official or squire in Jiangnan a good path?”

Xia Ruqing raised an eyebrow lightly.

”Say what you will?”

”I offered you advice, whether you heed it is up to you!”

”If you regret it in the future, don’t blame anyone else!”

Xia Ruyi bit her tongue in sarcasm.

”Don’t worry!”

”Even if I were to fall into despair, I would never come begging you!”

Xia Ruqing lifted an eyebrow, speaking relaxedly.

”That would be best, you can leave now if you have nothing else!”

”I wish you get what you desire!”

”Of course!”

Xia Ruyi said arrogantly.

Without bowing to leave, she glared angrily and stormed off.

Xia Ruqing watched her silhouette gradually disappear into the moonlight and let out a long sigh.

”I suppose I’ve done my due diligence!”

Zi Su nodded quickly.

”Indeed!”

Zi Yue advised,

”Consort, it’s chilly at night, we should head back!”

”Yes! Let’s go!”

Xia Ruqing got up, cradling her belly.

The night was indeed quite cold.

At the banquet, she only had a bit of soup, so she felt somewhat hungry now.

Back at Duanning Palace, after seeing Li Shengan off properly.

The first thing she did was call for a meal.

Fortunately, the Small Imperial Kitchen had prepared in advance.

As soon as she removed her heavy makeup and changed into her casual clothes.

The dishes were already laid out.

There was spicy fish and mouth-watering chicken, both were meat dishes.

In the vegetarian dishes, there was red oil wood ear with red onion, sweet and spicy lotus slices, and sesame and dry chili beans.

Sweet soups included milk with bird’s nest, rock sugar white fungus, and millet pumpkin porridge.

Savory options included beef soup, stewed lamb, red date pork ribs, and so on.

A wide array of dishes.

But each one was just a small dish or a small bowl, and any leftovers would be given as night snacks to the palace attendants, so there was no worry of wastage.

Every dish tasted just right.

Xia Ruqing ate a variety of dishes with crispy sesame biscuits.

Finally, she had a bowl of rib soup.

Only then did she finally let out a satisfied burp.

”Mm!”

”The cooking skills of the two kitchen maids have greatly improved!”

”Reward them, it’s a festive occasion!”

”Also, the mooncakes sent by the Imperial Kitchen, I don’t like them—divide them among yourselves!”

”Aye!”

Zi Yue, having received the order, cheerfully went inside to get silver tokens and called people to distribute the rewards.

Zi Su, on the other hand, remarked.

”Consort, if you give us all the mooncakes, what will you eat?”

Xia Ruqing waved her hand.

”I don’t eat mooncakes, they’re too sweet and greasy!”

She had absolutely no interest in sweets at the moment.

”Indeed!”

Zi Su giggled.

”The kitchen maids should make some spicy fish, spicy rabbit, spicy chicken, and stuff them into the mooncakes!”

”Then maybe you’d like to eat them!”

Xia Ruqing gave her a helpless look.

”Wouldn’t that name them mooncakes? I might as well eat them directly!”

”Hehe! True!” Zi Su laughed.

Xia Ruqing said nothing more.

After eating and drinking her fill, she wandered around the house.

Visiting the side hall to check on Henger and Yeye, then she herself rested.

Meanwhile.

The Mid-Autumn banquet at Ningshou Palace bustled for more than two shi chen before dispersing.

Afterwards.

Zhao Junyao initially wanted to stay over at Duanning Palace.

But halfway there, he reconsidered and returned to Zhaochen Palace.

The reason he found it unsuitable.

One, because she had returned early and was fond of sleep, he feared he might disturb her by going then.

Secondly... today was the fifteenth.

He was supposed to stay in the main palace as per the rules, even if the Empress was absent; staying at Zhaochen Palace was the standard.

Previously when the Empress was present.

Neglecting this rule once or twice was of no consequence.

Now with the Empress position vacant, not only the harem, but families with daughters in court were eyeing this throne.

If he went today.

One couldn’t imagine how many more enemies it would set against her.

After pondering, he decided against going.

...

Zhaochen Palace.

Zhao Junyao, after washing up, lay alone in the vast dragon bed.

The chill palace had no one else in sight.

The silence was such that a needle dropping could be heard, only occasionally broken by the popping of the lamps.

Having drunk quite a bit and slightly tipsy, he found himself unusually sleepless.

He tossed and turned the entire night.

Finally, he managed to sleep as daybreak neared, but it was soon time to rise for court.

Fortunately, he was young and vigorous; an occasional sleepless night didn’t easily show on him.

On that mid-autumn morning’s court.

The figure presiding on the dragon throne remained that supremely wise and valiant emperor.

Yet after the court session...

Zhao Junyao couldn’t even bother to change his dragon robe and headed straight for Duanning Palace in large strides.

Though heading to the harem in broad daylight wasn’t great for the emperor’s reputation.

Zhao Junyao couldn’t care less.

All that occupied his mind was the need to get a good sleep.

Of course, only holding her could he truly rest.

...

In Duanning Palace.

Xia Ruqing still hadn’t woken up.

As a pregnant woman, she was very sleepy and didn’t need to pay respects to anyone.

She could naturally sleep as long as she wanted to.

While she was dreaming.

She suddenly felt a cold wind brush by, followed by a chill surrounding her body.
