Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1352: One Single Man

As dusk settled over Kurogane Pass, the fighting died down.

Both sides were bloodied, exhausted, and drained of mana. The corpses on the field and the toll on their remaining strength made it clear that pressing into the night would only lead to senseless slaughter.

Slowly, almost cautiously, the front lines on both sides had begun to withdraw. The Tsuitsui forces stepped back towards their encampment, dragging their wounded with them. The Tiesha Tang soldiers retreated behind their Wall, tending to their injured and restoring their defenses.

There was no truce, no recognition. Only the shared understanding that the darkness belonged to rest, recovery, and preparation. When dawn came, battle would resume. No one doubted that.

Adam walked through the camp in silence. Everywhere he sensed, Herbalists worked in tight circles, binding wounds, pouring potions, and stitching flesh under the dim lantern light.

When it came to healing, the Tsuitsui Clan held an advantage. After all, most—if not all—of its members had been taught the healing arts from a very early age.

As Adam observed the atmosphere in the camp at night, he couldn’t help but sigh heavily.

He could sense men groan on bedrolls, some biting down on cloth, others staring blankly at the sky as if still hearing the clash of steel and spells.

Further off, a little away from the camp, a separate group carried bodies one by one to a growing line of the fallen. The dead were laid out neatly, stripped of weapons, faces covered with white cloth. A pyre crew worked beside them, stacking wood, preparing to burn the corpses before disease or corruption could spread.

The air was heavy with the scent of smoke, blood, and exhaustion. No one spoke unless necessary. Adam simply walked, taking it all in, the cost of the first day, the price the next few days would demand.

Suddenly, he felt the urge to laugh. But knowing how such an action could possibly affect the soldiers around him, Adam viciously bit on his tongue, his mouth instantly filled with a coppery taste.

He swallowed the blood, then sighed. He found a boulder at the edge of the camp. It was quiet there. He took a seat and then uncorked his sake gourd.

Adam understood the logic behind the day’s battle. Only the weaker Magi had been sent to fight first. They were the ones meant to test the enemy’s strength, wear them down, and create openings.

The true elites, the Mana Vortex Magi, were still holding back, conserving their power for when the battlefield reached its breaking point.

He knew this was how a large-scale Magus war unfolded. The early stages were spent trading blows with expendable forces, probing for weaknesses, and forcing their opponent to reveal their trump cards.

Only when the situation turned desperate or decisive would the stronger Magi step onto the battlefield.

As he observed the camp through his Sphere of Resonance, he couldn’t help but think, The real battle hasn’t even begun yet.

How many more people will die? By my rough estimate, around two hundred Tsuitsui men have already perished in today’s battle. Even more are severely wounded and most likely out of the fight.

The moment the higher-ranked Magi from both sides set foot on the stage, the battlefield would change completely. The casualties would spike. The devastation would multiply.

A week...

Adam thought to himself, I estimate that the battle will end in around a week.

He turned westward, facing the towering Wall.

But how are we going to break through that thing? Will the siege towers that the army brought with them even work?

Although Adam hadn’t participated in the battle today, he had observed quite a lot of things. For example, he learned that the runic magic inscribed on the Wall was fairly advanced. It effectively ensured that no one was able to break through it, at the very least.

As for the cliffs on both sides... they were even more difficult to scale. After around one hundred meters above the ground, the air grew violently windy. This was a natural phenomenon, one that worked in favor of the ones guarding the Wall.

There was no way the attacking army could scale the walls, then try to flank the enemy from beyond the Wall. It was simply just that difficult.

Although an army may not be able to climb the cliff, a single person with a relatively sturdy physique had a slight possibility of achieving that feat.

But then again, even if a single man managed to climb the cliff, traverse beyond the Wall, and flank the enemy, what could he possibly do alone?

How could one single man hope to go against an army of thousands?

How could one single man hope to overcome the Wall all by himself?

The Laughing God whispered...

Adam’s hand involuntarily reached for his face. As his finger gently caressed his cheeks, the flesh twitching ever so slightly, as if countless tiny tendrils shifted beneath the skin.

An idea began to take shape in his mind.

But he quickly shook his head.

This is Goro’s war. I’m only here to help him. I can’t go around doing things just because I want to,

he thought.
But when he heard the groans of the injured soldiers, their voices filled with anguish, he couldn’t help but reconsider.

I guess... there’s no harm in suggesting this idea to Goro?

He took another swig from the sake gourd, then put it away. He wiped his lips with his sleeve, then turned around and faced a certain patch in the deep darkness at the base of the cliff.

For some time now, he could feel a subtle gaze fixated on him, trying to find openings. However, because Adam was constantly on guard, the owner of the gaze hadn’t made a move yet.

”Auhh!” Adam called out.

But there was no response.

He sighed, thinking to himself, Just because I’m blind, you think I’m unable to see? How rude!

Adam then pointed towards a shadowy patch and curled his fingers in a beckoning gesture. ”Auhh-auhh!”

Still, there was no response.

Adam sighed helplessly. He rose to his feet, then began walking in that direction.

I thought nighttime was for recuperation? He wondered, unamused.

Whatever happened to that? But then again, this is war.

He cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders, then walked into the darkness without hesitation.

Moments later...

Sounds of struggle echoed from within.
