Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1255: Vague Prophecy

Several days later, a shocking piece of news spread through Ichigane Town.

The news was so ridiculous that the people there couldn’t help but dismiss it at first, thinking it was too far-fetched.

But as the days passed by and the small army of a hundred Magi that had left the town on the same night as the outsider never returned, people slowly started to believe in that ridiculous news.

And when a few days later, people from all sorts of sects and clans arrived at Ichigane Town, asking strange questions, the people finally and completely believed the veracity of the news.

It was safe to say that the whole of Ichigane Town was turned upside down!

A few weeks ago, a stranger from a faraway land had arrived in this town out of nowhere. He was a mysterious fellow who laughed and laughed and laughed. He was a madman who was rumored to carry great treasures with him.

When this stranger left Ichigane Town, a large group of adventurers and mercenaries also left with him. No, it would be more accurate to say they left in pursuit of him.

But then...

They never returned.

As for the stranger with the kitsune mask? He had disappeared as well.

Until now, no one knew what had truly transpired. But when these people from the mainland’s sects and clans started to come and ask questions, people started to put two and two together.

They came to a glaring conclusion that truly astounded them.

That the stranger had single-handedly slaughtered a hundred Magi!

Of course, the non-believers, or the logical ones as they liked to call themselves, believed that this stranger must have hidden allies who had helped him slaughter the hundred men.

Or these men must have killed one another in order to acquire the treasures.

As for what the truth really was, no one could tell with certainty.

But it was a fact that the arrival of this mysterious madman marked the beginning of strange happenings across the lands.

”I’m tellin’ you! That masked stranger was actually a Mana Core Magus in disguise! He was playing the pig to eat the tiger!”

”Are you even listening to yourself? Mana Core Magus in disguise? What a load of crap! It’s evident that the bastard was not alone!”

”That’s right! If he was a Mana Core Magus, his arrival would have been noticed by some people in this town. Haven’t you heard that rumor? About there being a hidden Mana Core-level expert that resides in Ichigane—”

”Oh, shut up! You’re too drunk! Hey! Hey, steward! Get us another bottle of sake! And put it on his tab!”

Conversations such as these were taking place in every tavern and inn. Especially, the Jade Lantern Inn, said to be the most famed place of gathering for all who visited this region.

Sitting behind the bar counter, the owner of this tavern, Hisaki Ichinomiya, casually smoked from the wooden pipe and listened to the conversations.

The tavern was doing great business as usual, the stewards were busy serving, the cooks were busy preparing food, money kept flowing in better than ever, yet... the stout owner of this establishment couldn’t help but feel complicated emotions deep within.

And there was a reason for that.

Long ago, there lived a famed Diviner named Lao Ren, a man whose name became legend across the lands of Yen-Lu. He was said to have seen further than any mortal, weaving prophecies that stirred both awe and fear.

Some of his visions never came to pass, fading into myths, but most proved disturbingly accurate.

Among his many predictions, there were a few that endured the ages.

That Yen-Lu would face several invasions from the other continents, but it would always stand the test of time and survive, eventually growing into a superpower.

And that a stranger from a faraway land would arrive, bringing with him great upheaval.

Lao Ren once prophecied about an outsider who would one day descend Mount Hoshigane. No one would see him climb. No one would know his name. He would simply appear out of nowhere, silent and mysterious.

What set this prophecy apart from the rest was how truly vague it was. Lao Ren’s prophecies either never came to pass or happened with such frightening accuracy that it made one shudder.

But this one, about the stranger who would descend Mount Hoshigane... it was shrouded in layers of mystery.

”The legend of the Ghost...”

Hisaki murmured in a daze.

Immediately, his eyes turned sharp, and he scanned his surroundings, checking to see if anyone heard him.

A moment later, he relaxed a little. Taking a long drag from the pipe, he savored the tobacco and got into deep thought.

Is he truly the Ghost from Lao Ren’s prophecy? He wondered, perplexed.

If he really is... then, why is this prophecy so vague?

It only speaks of an outsider not born of Yen-Lu, and that his arrival would mark the advent of great change.

But who is this outsider? Is it truly Adam?

Why did the prophecy not have more information? Lao Ren is known as the greatest Diviner to ever exist in Yen-Lu, and possibly the whole world.

If this prophecy has truly come to pass, then why does it not give more clues?

Compared to his other prophecies that have come true, this one barely says anything... just that the Ghost would be an outsider and the harbinger of change.

That’s it.

Or could it be...

Hisaki’s brows furrowed into a knot.

Could this be one of those handful of Lao Ren’s prophecies that wouldn’t come to pass?

But that doesn’t make sense either. Constantine claimed that he came from the peak of Mount Hoshigane, and I don’t think he was lying.

Slam!

His thoughts came to an abrupt halt, and so did the atmosphere within the tavern, when a group of powerful Magi slammed the door open and entered the dining area.

The moment these Magi entered, the atmosphere instantly changed. It became heavy and oppressive. From a single glance, even the most novice of adventurers could tell that these newcomers were the real deal.

When Hisaki turned his attention to this new group, he couldn’t help but frown. Seeing the insignia proudly emblazoned on their robes, he, as well as everyone else in the tavern, instantly knew where they were from.

The Arakuro Clan!
