Chapter 1223: Ominous Battle

Adam froze as the chamber walls trembled with a low rumble. Dust fell from the ceiling, and the corpses on the stone table shuddered from the vibrations.

”Gege! Gege!” Standing in the corner of the room, the mimic couldn’t help but scream in alarm.

”Silence!” Adam brought a trembling finger to his lips, commanding the mimic to stop yelling.

Despite the rune magic preventing any sound or smell from escaping the chamber, Adam couldn’t help but feel extremely afraid.

Something massive was stirring outside.

He strapped the mimic—now in his rucksack form—around his back, then activated the enchantments of his stealth artifacts. With careful, silent steps, he slipped out of the hidden chamber, making his way through the ruined staircase until he exited the tower.

The ruined cityscape spread before him. The sun was about to set, painting the sky in shades of indigo. As twilight wrapped around the world, a vast presence arrived on the outskirts of the forgotten city.

Against the fractured skyline of crumbling towers and collapsed arches, a monstrous silhouette slowly moved. Its sheer size dwarfed the ruins it passed, each step echoing like rolling thunder.

As it drew closer, Adam was able to finally observe its frame. It had broad shoulders, long claws dropping against the ground, and a thick pelt riddled with scars.

It was a bear. But it wasn’t just any beast. It was a powerful creature at the Mana Core Rank!

Adam’s heart sank, and his breathing turned ragged. He suddenly felt the massive urge to laugh, but he instantly bit his tongue, nearly tearing it in the process. Hands pressed tightly against his mouth, he watched the ominous battle unfold.

Across the broken streets of Feypore, the wolves answered with angry snarls. The white, black, and grey alphas emerged from the shadows, their eyes blazing with fury and their fangs glistening with a cold light. Behind them, their packs, each a thousand beast strong, stirred restlessly.

All of a sudden, the howls of the wolves filled the night air. Adam’s body involuntarily shuddered at the dark turn of events. Thankfully, he was mindful enough to constantly supply his artifacts with mana, helping him conceal his presence.

From his vantage point, through the shadows, he could see it all...

A brutal battle was about to begin!

With a deafening roar that seemingly split the sky, the bear charged forward, its eyes blazing with a gluttonous light. It smashed through the broken streets, sending rubble flying in every direction.

The black alpha immediately lunged forward, its claws flashing with a cold gleam as it entered a berserk state. Its eyes gleamed with a red light as it aimed straight for the bear’s flanks.

The white alpha summoned shards of ice from the cracked ground, creating barriers and jagged projectiles that heavily slowed the bear’s movements.

Meanwhile, the grey alpha took a defensive position, shielding the smaller wolves and absorbing the brunt of the bear’s powerful swipes.

The three alphas moved with such seamless coordination that it was a beautiful sight to behold. Their packs swarmed crazily, attacking from every angle, but the bear’s strength was utterly overwhelming.

Several wolves were crushed under its massive paws, while others were hurled sprawling across the ruins, their blood staining the ground. Still, the alphas coordinated the attacks with unmatched precision.

The black alpha, in its state of frenzy, attacked again and again, slashing deep wounds on the bear’s hide. Though its berserk state left it completely exposed to the beast’s counterattacks.

Whereas the white alpha kept the bear’s mobility in check, its long, ice spears attacking the beast whenever it slowed over the frozen patches of land. Meanwhile, the grey alpha endured blow after blow, holding its ground to give the others openings to attack.

As the ferocious battle continued into the night, wolf after wolf met its demise. The city streets became littered with bodies, the crying howls of the wolves continuing to echo long after they’d died.

The bear roared, shaking the ground and momentarily disorienting its attackers. Yet, the three alphas continued to press on, refusing to yield. The lost city of Feypore was their home, and the bear an intruder. They would do whatever it took to drive the beast away.

The black alpha and the white alpha delivered coordinated attacks from different angles, while the grey alpha absorbed the bear’s retaliatory blow, holding the line against the monstrous beast.

Hours seemed to pass in bloody and relentless combat. The black alpha’s berserk state began to slowly wane. Although its movements became slower, it was still no less dangerous.

Meanwhile, the giant bear, bloodied and battered, regained some of its terrifying momentum, clawing through the remnants of the pack.

The white alpha summoned a final volley of ice spikes in the air, piercing deep into the bear’s back, while the grey alpha braced and absorbed the bear’s retaliatory strikes, allowing the black alpha to deliver a vicious strike to the enemy’s chest.

Finally, the coordinated assault of the three alphas drove the bear to the ground!

The bear staggered backwards, blood pouring from its wounds in large quantities. Its roaring grew weaker, until finally... with a hateful glance towards the three alphas, it turned and retreated into the jungles.

The black, white, and grey alphas stood atop the rubble, their breathing heavy, and their fur drenched in blood. The grey alpha was the most injured among the three as it had faced the brunt of the bear’s attacks. It was surprising that it still drew breath.

Around them, the remnants of their packs lay scattered. But the survivors rallied close to their alphas.

A quarter of the total wolves had lost their lives, while the grey alpha had suffered the heaviest and most ghastly injuries. Their opponent, however, was still alive, retreating into the safety of the dark jungles beyond.

Despite the heavy losses, the alphas and their packs had succeeded. No outsider had claimed their territory, and the ruined city of Feypore still remained their stronghold. Their coordinated strength, strategy, and unity had helped them gain victory.

From a distance, hidden in the shadows, Adam watched everything unfold. He studied every attack, every movement, and every choice the alphas had made.

He then turned in the direction the bear had disappeared into, his lips slowly curling into a wide, crazed grin.

Things had just gotten a lot more interesting...
