Invincible Beyond Heavens: Cultivating With A Broken EXP System

“Good,” Elder Sun said as he nodded slightly.

A moment later a deacon walked onto the platform carrying several trays. He placed three sets of medicinal ingredients neatly on the table in front of Li Yun before quietly stepping back and leaving the platform.

Elder Sun then began explaining the rules of the alchemy assessment.

“You will have three opportunities to refine a Body Tempering Pill,” he said in a calm voice. “If you fail to successfully refine even an ordinary grade pill within those three attempts, you will fail the assessment. Should that happen, you will have to wait three months before you are eligible to take the alchemy assessment again.”

“I understand,” Li Yun replied with a nod.

“Before we begin, state your name, age, and cultivation realm,” Elder Sun continued.

“Li Yun, seventeen years old, third level of the Xiantian Realm,” Li Yun answered calmly.

Elder Sun wrote down the information before looking back at him.

“You will have three hours to refine your first batch,” Elder Sun said. “If you fail to produce a pill within those three hours, that attempt will be counted as one failure.”

Li Yun nodded once again, indicating that he clearly understood the rules of the assessment.

“Alright, your time begins now,” Elder Sun said calmly as he looked at Li Yun.

The moment those words were spoken, Li Yun stepped forward toward the alchemy table without hesitation.

Several elders were seated nearby to observe the assessment. Most of them were old men with calm expressions and experienced eyes that had witnessed countless alchemy examinations over the years.

Even the young woman was looking at Li Yun.

All of them directed their attention toward Li Yun.

Li Yun first examined the three sets of materials placed on the table. Each set contained the necessary herbs and spirit ingredients required for refining Body Tempering Pills. Instead of immediately throwing the ingredients into the cauldron like many inexperienced disciples tended to do, Li Yun carefully picked up several of the herbs and began cutting them.

The movement of his blade was precise and controlled.

Thin slices of certain herbs were separated while some tougher roots were cut into smaller segments. Even the spirit grass with delicate veins was divided with astonishing accuracy.

Several elders immediately frowned.

One of them muttered quietly, “What is he doing? Why is he cutting the ingredients first?”

“Body Tempering Pills usually do not require such preparation.”

Another elder leaned forward slightly, curiosity appearing in his eyes.

Li Yun ignored the murmurs around him and continued his work calmly. Once he finished preparing the materials, he gathered every piece he had cut and placed them together into the alchemy cauldron.

Then he activated the furnace.

A low humming sound filled the room as flames rose beneath the cauldron.

The elders watched carefully, expecting him to struggle with the next step.

However, the moment the flames appeared, Li Yun’s hands moved again.

He formed a set of familiar hand seals and began circulating the flame controlling technique given to him by Elder Lin.

Double Dragon Flame Controlling Art.

Two streams of flame responded instantly to his control. They moved like living creatures beneath the cauldron, twisting and circulating in a perfectly balanced pattern. The temperature of the furnace rose steadily without becoming unstable.

The flames neither flared wildly nor weakened.

They remained completely stable.

This was the exact temperature required for refining Body Tempering Pills.

The elders’ expressions gradually changed.

The young woman among them widened her eyes slightly as she watched the flames move under Li Yun’s control.

Such precise control required exceptional understanding of flame manipulation. Even many disciples who had spent years studying alchemy could not maintain such stability during their first refinement attempt.

She whispered softly, “This level of flame control…”

Her gaze remained fixed on Li Yun.

Meanwhile Li Yun continued to work with complete focus. His hands moved with natural familiarity as he guided the flames to circulate beneath the cauldron. The Double Dragon Flame Controlling Art allowed him to maintain an even temperature while gradually extracting the medicinal essence from the materials within.

The flames curled and flowed smoothly like two dragons coiling around the base of the furnace.

Not a single fluctuation appeared.

The room slowly fell silent.

Even the solemn old man sitting closest to the young woman leaned forward slightly as he observed the flames.

After watching for several moments, he finally spoke in a low voice.

“This young man is not a beginner on the path of alchemy.”

The other elders glanced toward him.

The old man continued watching Li Yun’s movements before adding calmly, “Judging from his flame control alone, he may already surpass some of us when it comes to refining first tier pills.”

The young woman looked at Li Yun again with renewed interest.

“Could he really be better than me?”

The thought suddenly appeared in the young woman’s mind as she watched Li Yun. For a brief moment doubt crept into her heart. However she quickly shook her head and rejected the idea.

“That is impossible. He is only seventeen, which means he is even younger than me. There is no way he could surpass me in alchemy.”

She herself was already a One Star Alchemist. Not only that, she was known as the youngest One Star Alchemist in the Martial Ascension Gate. She had achieved that title at the age of nineteen, a record that had earned her considerable admiration within the sect. Because of this accomplishment, she had always taken great pride in her alchemical talent.

Yet the scene unfolding before her eyes had shaken that confidence.

The level of flame control Li Yun was displaying was far superior to her own.

She simply could not understand how a seventeen year old youth could possess such refined mastery over flames. The precision with which he manipulated the fire seemed almost unnatural.

She had watched many elders refine pills before, and she knew exactly how skilled they were. However the control Li Yun demonstrated over the flames clearly surpassed even those experienced elders.

This realization left her deeply unsettled and filled with curiosity.

Where exactly had this young man come from?
