Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 281: Chapter 381: The Strange Village

A thick layer of peach blossoms covered the ground, soft underfoot.

Beside were rows and rows of peach trees, looking toward the village, all was pink.

The entire village was covered with peach blossoms.

Soon, Bai Xiqin’s family stood at the place where the zombie had appeared in the photo.

The ground was the same as elsewhere, all pink peach blossoms.

It seemed that the hideous zombies had never existed.

If it weren’t for the camera capture, Bai Xiqin would have thought it was an illusion.

Hideous zombies are generally low-rank zombies, unable to control their instincts.

Seeing flesh and blood, they can’t resist the bloodthirsty impulse and will definitely rush forward with a roar.

But it didn’t, it even quietly left.

This indicates a high-rank zombie is controlling it!

”Could it be a mistake?”

Bai Yifan swallowed hard, and silently hid behind Bai Xiqin.

At critical moments, his sister’s back felt more reliable.

Bai Xiqin crouched down slightly, her fair fingers rummaging under the thick layer of peach blossoms.

Finally, Bai Xiqin picked up a peach blossom with specks of black blood.

Amid the enchanting pinkness of the peach blossom, a drop of black blood clung firmly to it.

There really are zombies here, maybe even high-rank zombies.

”Let’s go see in the village!”

Upon seeing the black blood, the eyes of Wang Yiyun and Liu Jing instantly brightened.

If they could dissect zombies or apply makeup on zombies within a sea of peach blossoms, it would certainly be a beautiful setting.

Bai Zhengxuan and Bai Anhai quietly felt the surge of superpower within themselves, not resisting as before.

After all, being Third Rank Superpower Users now, even if they can’t fight, they certainly have the ability to carry their wives and run!

Only Bai Yifan wore his usual terrified expression.

Sigh, with the family’s fairies speaking, Bai Yifan dared not oppose, only nervously walked in the middle.

The family stepped on a ground covered in peach blossoms and slowly walked toward the village.

Looking ahead, the village path was full of peach blossoms, tender pink, without any post-apocalyptic scenery.

Looking at the houses on either side of the road, though the doors were closed, they did not hear zombie roars or see black blood splashed on the walls.

Until they reached the center of the village, they hadn’t encountered a single zombie or person.

”Look over there!”

Bai Xiqin pointed in a direction with her finger.

A family’s home had smoke rising, carrying a harmonious atmosphere.

It was already past noon, time for lunch.

”Cluck, cluck, cluck—”

The sound of chickens crying suddenly came from another family’s house.

The Bai Family stood quietly, listening to the sound.

The chicken cries were too shrill; if there were zombies, they would definitely be attracted.

After waiting for a while, there was still no movement.

However, during these few waiting minutes, smoke started rising from the kitchens of a few households within the village.

People’s mealtime seemed quite punctual.

”Why not go and take a look inside their homes?”

Liu Jing looked puzzled at the peaceful village, feeling something odd.

The black blood seen on the peach blossom earlier indicated zombies were roaming the village.

Yet, the chicken cries hadn’t attracted zombies.

This was quite peculiar.

Bai Xiqin touched her chin, unable to clearly understand the situation.

The post-apocalyptic scene should be filled with black blood, now and then the roar of zombies, or mutant animals escaping through the village.

Even if chickens were slaughtered, such a commotion shouldn’t be made.

Unless it was in a safe base where such disturbances wouldn’t pose much danger; elsewhere, especially where superpower users aren’t gathered, too much noise could attract mutant animals and trigger a corpse tide.

The family puzzled, walked toward the house from where the noise came, seeing nothing but peach blossoms.

They kicked away the peach blossoms with their feet, finding the ground clean.

No black blood, no red blood.

Only the scent of peach blossoms spread in the air.

Bai Xiqin took a deep breath, smelling the rich aroma of peach blossoms.

The rotting smell of zombies was barely detectable, if not confirmed by the earlier sight of black blood, Bai Xiqin would have thought it was an illusion.

The house from which the chicken cries originated looked ordinary, its door painted with red lacquer, much like other village doors.

Bai Xiqin gently stroked the Water Python, then placed it on the ground.

A flash of white light disappeared along the path covered with peach blossoms.

In less than a minute, the Water Python returned.

”Master, there are people, they’re slaughtering chickens.”

The Water Python whispered.

Bai Xiqin’s family looked at each other, could it be that the village people already slaughtered all the zombies, and what they saw was just a fish that slipped through the net?

Bai Zhengxuan adjusted his clothes quietly, pulled out the glasses from his pocket, and put them on.

With the glasses on, he looked like a gentle old gentleman, an elder with scholarly elegance.

Bai Zhengxuan felt his image was decent, pondering whether to knock on the door and inquire.

If they answer, they answer, if not, they could just wander around the village!

Just as Bai Zhengxuan was about to knock on the door, noise came from the west side of the village.

”Huh huh—”

Noises resembling beasts’ throats emanated from the west.

The sounds weren’t singular.

These noises were very familiar, belonging to the raspy throats of zombies.

The heavy footsteps from the west trekked toward the village’s center, disorderly yet with a hint of order.

”Quack—”

Meanwhile, the anguished cries of ducks arose.

This seemed to be a signal; cries of small animals echoed from every household.

Chickens, ducks, geese...

Every small animal emitted a piercing death cry.

From the west of the village, the zombies’ footsteps grew louder.

The heavy hoarse sounds of zombies echoed endlessly.

Bai Xiqin subconsciously covered her nose.

Each household had small animals slaughtered under blades, the smell of blood heavy in the village.

Even with the entire village planted with peach blossoms, this bloody scent couldn’t be contained.

From the direction where zombies came, besides heavy footsteps, doors were heard opening wide.

Listening to the footsteps alone revealed many zombies, while the sound of doors opening was undeniably actual.

The Bai Family frowned slightly, instinctively moving toward the west of the village.

With superpowers within, they feared no zombies, only wished to see what truly unfolded.

The village seemed far too quiet.

Creak—

Creak—

As the footsteps approached the village center, sounds of doors opening multiplied.

No zombie roars, no human scream.

Doors opened, yet the village remained tranquil.

The family strode toward the road where the footsteps were most evident.

One step, two steps... finally, they arrived.

The family looked up ahead, as they saw the scene, their scalp tingled, and their bodies froze in place.

Silent—

The Bai Family stood speechless, staring intently ahead.
