Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 1341: Chapter 999: What Does Defying Heaven Unscathed Mean?

In the blink of an eye, Gu Taitian excitedly grasped Little Monk Bu Jie’s arms, trembling, unable to conceal his joy, ”Little Senior Monk, the Evil Gathering Formation! The Evil Gathering Formation can obscure the divine plan! With the divine plan obscured, my daughter, my Changsheng, won’t have to suffer from the backlash of the sacrifice. She will escape this calamity! My daughter... my daughter...”

The thought of his daughter escaping disaster made Gu Taitian so excited he lost himself!

As a father, his love for Gu Changsheng truly came from the depths of his soul!

Even if it meant restraining his Divine Soul, going against the heavens, even if he had to wander with his soul for thousands of years, all he wished for was his daughter’s safety!

That day during the battle in the Secluded Valley, when his daughter spoke words akin to a final farewell, Gu Taitian seemed to have made a decision, feeling that life had lost all its meaning...

But now, he saw hope once more!

When Shi Wujue took Gu Changsheng away, Gu Taitian thought that even if there was hope, it was just a slim chance of survival!

However, upon learning about the Evil Gathering Formation that could obscure the divine plan, Gu Taitian suddenly believed it!

He wholeheartedly believed it!

With this formation, obscuring the divine plan, his daughter Changsheng had at least an eighty percent chance of survival!

”Shi Wujue wasn’t lying! Shi Wujue wasn’t lying! Our daughter, our Changsheng! Ruoshui, our daughter will be fine, she will be okay, she will definitely escape this calamity! She surely will...”

At that moment, tears streamed down Gu Taitian’s elderly face.

In the Secluded Valley, the guilt of allowing his daughter to defy the heavens again, the panic of almost losing his daughter, the torment of waiting these days, nearly drove him mad. Now, at this moment, it all erupted, causing this old man who had experienced lifetimes of vicissitudes and wandered with his soul for thousands of years to cry his heart out...

Little Monk Bu Jie watched Gu Taitian weep uncontrollably, a trace of hesitation flashing across his kindly little face. Thinking of the worldly ways of humanity, Little Monk Bu Jie furrowed his small brows and chose to remain silent...

”My daughter! My daughter...”

With emotions long suppressed finally released, Gu Taitian leaned on the railing, sobbing uncontrollably...

After two lifetimes of ups and downs, the pain of losing his true love, the sorrow of protecting his beloved daughter but being unable to, had made Gu Taitian’s heart, at just forty years old, deeply scarred and infinitely weary...

The observation deck was vast and uninhabited; in the distance, a few guards from the City Lord’s Mansion stood watch in a corner.

Hearing the sound of suppressed and poignant sobbing, they only glanced over briefly, recalling the orders from the inner courtyard: this was an esteemed guest, to be treated well and not disturbed!

Thus, they acted as though they hadn’t noticed, letting Gu Taitian cry as he wished!

With Gu Taitian pouring out his heart, Little Monk Bu Jie looked on coolly. Only after a long while did Gu Taitian finally manage to calm his agitated emotions. Realizing that he had lost his composure in front of Little Monk Bu Jie, a child, he couldn’t help feeling a bit embarrassed on his aged face...

”Benefactor Gu, are you done deceiving yourself?”

However, before Gu Taitian could speak, Little Monk Bu Jie furrowed his brows and coolly dropped this remark.

Gu Taitian was taken aback upon hearing this, a trace of awkwardness appearing on his time-worn yet once glamorous face. Then, considering Little Monk Bu Jie’s words, his expression was once again one of surprise!

It wasn’t that Benefactor Gu had finished crying!

But rather... finished deceiving himself!

Deceiving himself!

He... was deceiving himself?

”I...” Gu Taitian was somewhat awkward, opening his mouth anxiously, ”When have I ever deceived myself? The Evil Gathering Formation can obscure the will of heaven; you know it, and so do I. Changsheng she used sacrificial witchcraft to summon the enhanced Red Lotus Karma Fire; only by obscuring the sky can she escape the backlash of defying fate! She will surely be safe and get through this calamity!”

Little Monk Bu Jie sighed at his words, glanced at Gu Taitian, then turned away, ”And you say it’s not self-deception! Indeed, Benefactor Changsheng has found a place to blind the heavens. If anyone can extend her fate, then of course she can survive this calamity! Survive it! Benefactor Gu, could it be that you’ve forgotten what we are most worried about?”

At this, Little Monk Bu Jie turned around. His kindly, young face, which had been devoid of emotion, now bore a rare grave expression, and his gaze was as piercing as an eagle’s as he spoke in a deep voice to Gu Taitian, ”Going against the heavens can be done once, maybe twice, but not thrice! You two, husband and wife, defied fate to change Benefactor Changsheng’s destiny. It was I who called upon the heavens to dissolve the calamity of defying fate; it was because I was protecting you that Benefactor Yuan Bao came back to life. Once, twice, we both got through safely, but this third time, it is Benefactor Changsheng acting alone. I ask myself, does the Human-God Shang Clan have such great face to make the heavens turn a blind eye repeatedly? Benefactor Gu, do you think that just because Benefactor Changsheng gets Shi Wujue’s help and hides in a place that blinds the heavens, she can evade this calamity and be done with it?”

”I...”

Little Monk Bu Jie’s words were like a slap to Gu Taitian’s face, rendering him speechless.

Little Monk Bu Jie glanced at him and sighed again, shifting his gaze elsewhere, with a voice carrying both emptiness and ancient wisdom, ”The divine plan is clear and unerring. Thunderstorms and rain are all celestial blessings. Linyuan City uses itself as a formation to obscure the will of heaven. Benefactor Changsheng has the opportunity to face this tribulation here. Isn’t this heavenly will? If it’s heavenly will for Benefactor Changsheng to escape this backlash, then so be it?”

At this point, Little Monk Bu Jie’s voice gradually lowered.

Meanwhile, the color on Gu Taitian’s face grew darker, and turmoil welled up in his ancient eyes, increasingly filled with anxiety and unease...

After a while, Little Monk Bu Jie continued softly as if murmuring, ”But this heavenly will is inherently flawed... Defying heaven’s calamity is the Heavenly Dao’s decree. If reverse the heavens without harm, what does that mean? If Benefactor Changsheng is unharmed, what does it mean? Benefactor Gu, after two lifetimes of studying mysticism, this should be clear to you without me having to say it, right?”

This heavenly will is flawed...

The will of heaven, it is flawed...

These words lingered in Gu Taitian’s mind, causing his lanky frame to stagger slightly, his ancient face momentarily turning pale as snow.

Indeed, after two lifetimes of studying mysticism, delving into the arts, surveying the stars above and observing the ground below, even though he didn’t have Little Monk Bu Jie’s innate talents, understanding the art deeply, how could he not know?

He knew what this meant!

He knew!

Because he knew, he feared!

Yes, at this moment, Gu Taitian was afraid!

Unprecedented confusion and fear swept over his entire being, as if he were struck by lightning, quivering and terrified...

”No! No! It can’t be like this! It definitely can’t be like this!” Gu Taitian shook his head wildly, refusing to accept this reality.

Seeing this, Little Monk Bu Jie sighed, speaking with a face full of compassion, ”Does Benefactor Gu still refuse to believe this fact? Let me tell you what heavenly will is! Benefactor Gu, do you really think you escaped those two calamities purely by luck? Let me enlighten you today. No! Not at all! That too was heavenly will!”

”Years ago, due to Celestial auspices at my birth, the Human God Shang Clan, known as the Secret Sect Shang Clan to the world, was surrounded by Emperor Zhoulin’s army. Our entire clan was wiped out. Benefactor Zhou Mu, guided by my mentor, entered the mountains in time to save me from the brink of death, sowing a karmic seed. Emperor Zhoulin owed my clan hundreds of lives, but it wasn’t my celestial auspices that brought disaster! That was heavenly will! Benefactor Zhou saved my life, and I owed him a karmic debt. That too was heavenly will!”

”Three years ago, I observed the astrology at night. The Female Star of the Occupation Room clashed with Hook Chen. Amid the chaos, someone emerged to stabilize the world. Borne of the Human-God Lineage, I naturally had the responsibility to seek the truth. Southward, I encountered Benefactor Changsheng in the Liuzhou Region, who held a personal letter from Benefactor Zhou, seeking me and demanding I protect her for ten years by invoking a life-saving debt. I had no choice but to agree. Isn’t that heavenly will?”

”Benefactor Changsheng is the one under the Female Star’s divine prophecy. Whether it was my Human-God mission or Benefactor Zhou’s life-saving leverage, I had no choice but to undertake this task and protect Benefactor Changsheng for ten years! Hence, when you reunited as father and daughter, I had to act! When you defied the heavens to revive Yuan Bao, I had to act; these were preordained karmic ties! This was heavenly will!”

”Heh...” At this, Little Monk Bu Jie chuckled mockingly and continued murmuring, ”But this heavenly will was flawed from the start! Though I am of the Human God lineage and can challenge heaven and earth, it is still a punishment by heaven, and disregarding heavenly will to aid you in reviving Yuan Bao should have brought disaster upon me. Yet until now... I am unharmed!”

Little Monk Bu Jie paused, then looked intently at Gu Taitian and continued in a deep voice, ”Benefactor Gu, my Human God Shang lineage may have divine mandate, but we know not to assume such great graces that we can evade fate’s retribution! Benefactor Changsheng defies the heavens and emerges unharmed, what does it mean, Benefactor Gu, do you still refuse to believe?”

”What does it mean? What does it mean?” Gu Taitian, at Little Monk Bu Jie’s query, wore a lost expression, murmuringly spoke, ”Reverse heaven unharmed, reverse heaven unharmed! It means... The Heavenly Dao is flawed!”

Leaves thrive and decay within a year, rivers freeze and thaw within a year, the moon waxes and wanes, people experience sorrow and joy... This is the Heavenly Dao!

Upon hearing Gu Taitian’s words, Little Monk Bu Jie fixed his gaze upon the void, murmuring in agreement, ”Yes! Defying heaven unharmed means the Heavenly Dao is flawed! The Ancestral God has said it: amidst the Six Realms, all happenings have causality. Humans have no clue of the heavens watching, sun and moon hidden from sight, seasons change, within the underworld, all things follow causality, the larger truth is the ’Heavenly Dao’, the wheel of the Heavenly Dao cycle, now... it’s flawed...”
