Capítulo 1120: Chapter 790: Xi Shi, Look What You’ve Done!

A small note was discreetly slipped into the hands of the young maid while no one was paying attention, and was quickly concealed by her sleeve.

The maid named Yu Shu had a fleeting look of panic and confusion on her pretty face, but in an instant, she retracted her hand, quickly stepped back, and resumed her work of arranging the wine rack, albeit with a bit of absent-mindedness.

At the entrance, a man dressed in short attire, his face hidden under half a mask, took in the scene fully, furrowing his handsome brow. He tilted his head to look at Guo Luo, who had been accompanying him, and said in a deep voice, “Brother Guo, does your family have strict control over your servants? How can it force the maid to…”

…force the maid to privately hand over to someone?

Although the actions of the young maid Yu Shu and the burly man were secretive, this was only relatively speaking. In the eyes of ordinary people, it was hardly noticeable; very few could detect any clues. However, Zhou Mu was different. With his cultivation, even if he deliberately suppressed it, the actions of others in front of him seemed as if they were in slow motion, unable to escape his sight.

As a former Commandery Prince Mu of the Great Zhou and now the Crown Prince, Zhou Mu could be considered quite a rule-abiding person. Therefore, although he didn’t take these private exchanges to heart, he didn’t necessarily like them either. That’s why he asked this question upon witnessing such a scene.

“What’s the matter, Wise Brother Shui Mu? Our Guo family belongs to the Itinerant World, how could we strictly control the maids? We’re not like those noble families with strict rules and regulations for coming and going!” Guo Luo blinked as he asked, and after speaking, he couldn’t help but glance at the two maids of his own family.

The Guo family had plenty of teenage boys, but very few maids, just two. One was Xiao Yuyu, a timid and cowardly little maid who served his sister, and the other was Yu Shu, who served his wife. Although young, she was steady and thorough in her work…

Seeing that Guo Luo did not notice anything unusual about the maid’s behavior, Zhou Mu didn’t continue questioning. This was considered a family matter, after all, he was just a guest and shouldn’t interfere too much. Having said a word, he had fulfilled his duty as a guest friend. Fortunately, the Guo family was part of the Itinerant World, so even if their maid acted improperly, it would likely just end in a laugh rather than affecting their reputation much.

However, Zhou Mu was a generally cautious person. Even though he didn’t care much about this matter, he still gave a more detailed look at the maid engaging in the private exchange before turning to leave with Guo Luo.

“Wise Brother Shui Mu, my father’s winemaking skills are considered quite commendable, and many come seeking our wine, which is why we established a rule of opening the cellar once every three months, selling to the highest bidder. This way, we don’t offend people over some wine…” Guo Luo went on and on with Zhou Mu, as today happened to be the Guo family’s once-in-every-three-months opening day for selling wine, mindful of not disturbing guests because of it.

“Although I am not a person who indulges in drink, I have heard tales of Xunyang Huadiao coming from the Guo family. Brother Guo, don’t be too modest.” Zhou Mu responded with a smile, but his gaze unavoidably lingered toward the Guest Garden, his deep, dark eyes filled with helpless indulgence. He really didn’t know when that little woman could stop being at odds with him. This feeling of being close yet emotionally distant was really awful and heartbreaking!

“Wise Brother Shui Mu also praises our Guo Family Huadiao, so why didn’t you drink a drop during lunch? That’s not how children of the Itinerant World should behave!” Guo Luo recalled the scene at lunch when the wine was immediately withdrawn as it was brought to the table, feeling a bit sheepish.

The Guo Family Huadiao is famous throughout the world. People of the Guo family should naturally live up to his father’s reputation as “The Immortal of Wine.” If word got out that even their own wine couldn’t be served at their dining table, wouldn’t it be a laughing stock?

“She was reluctant to eat, Brother Guo, how could you expect me to feast on food and wine?” Zhou Mu sighed, not hiding his concerns.

In the Guo Family, he was just a guest from the Itinerant World, not the Crown Prince of the Great Zhou. He didn’t need to uphold the image of the Imperial Family at every turn, everything was from the heart, such a feeling was great!

“Hahaha… Brother Shui Mu, you also know how to cherish women, just like me! I am also dominated by your sister-in-law!” Guo Luo laughed heartily upon hearing this and patted Zhou Mu’s shoulder, speaking proudly, “They say there’s beauty like Jade in books, but we children of the Jianghu don’t read poetry and books. To find a kindred spirit and marry a lovely wife to start a family and career is already heaven’s blessing. What more could one want? Naturally, the wife should be cherished like God! You’re right, Wise Brother Shui Mu, I support you!”

“Hehe…” Zhou Mu chuckled softly in response and nodded, “Brother Guo is right. She is inherently free-spirited, enjoys fine wines and delicacies, but poor in moderation, which led to today’s misfortune. That’s why I didn’t allow any wine on the table at home these few days, it’s really been an inconvenience for Brother Guo. I’ll go to Elder Guo later to explain the situation clearly, hoping he doesn’t take it to heart.”

“Wise Brother Shui Mu, you’re being too formal. This drink is all about the mood, it’s not a must-have. My father definitely won’t mind, just that this morning you shattered a jar of his aged wine with a single palm; it was a pain to part with it as he brought it out to entertain a wise brother. He must be feeling heartache now, so it’s good to go talk to him!” Guo Luo laughed while walking together with Zhou Mu toward the backyard.

It was just past noon, and there was still some time before the Guo family released their wine, so they were not in a rush.

Zhou Mu went straight to the wine cellar to speak with Elder Guo, while the bored Guo Luo grabbed a lad to find out his own wife’s whereabouts and eagerly went to look for her.

At the entrance of the Guest Garden, Beauty Sai, leading two maids, sat on a big rock, picking at the food on two trays, eating happily.

When Guo Luo arrived, this was the scene he saw. His eyes immediately widened in disbelief, pointing at his wife and then at the food on the trays, his mouth twitching as he asked, “Xi Shi, isn’t this meal for my sister-in-law? Wasn’t it meant for you to bring to her? Why are you sneaking at the door eating it yourself? You!”

“What about me?” Beauty Sai, holding a golden-fried chicken leg, blinked, unfazed as she said, “If I don’t eat it, wouldn’t it go to waste? Also, who said I’m sneaking around eating? I’m eating openly, all right?”

“You! What on earth are you up to!” Guo Luo, hearing that, his bushy beard quivering, patted his thigh anxiously.

“What am I up to? The sister-in-law is troubled and unfulfilled, I’m helping her, aren’t I?” Beauty Sai finished munching down the chicken leg in a few bites, then clapped her hands, and moved her heavy belly off the big rock, saying righteously, “I’m so kind, husband, you don’t know. Looking at me eating, sister-in-law’s longing eyes made me feel pity, so, don’t bother taking it inside, she can’t eat it, she’ll just be left there drooling and feeling bad!”

“You!” Guo Luo looked at his wife, his rough face twisted into a tangled mess, raised his hand pointing at her, unable to say a word.

“Me? Let me tell you, husband, there’s nothing in this world that your wife here can’t handle. Hmph, with the sister-in-law playing the hunger card, I don’t believe Wise Brother Shui Mu won’t feel distressed!” Beauty Sai waved for the two maids to take away the trays while pulling her husband to claim credit, “Husband, I’m doing a good deed here, creating a good marriage and accumulating blessings for our unborn child. Don’t you think Wise Brother Shui Mu and the sister-in-law make a great pair? If a good thing happens in our home, it’ll be a wonderful tale to tell! Don’t worry, husband, with me around, even if Wise Brother Shui Mu is like a piece of wood, I can enlighten him into pliable softness!”

“Enlighten? Enlighten my foot! Xi Shi, can’t we stop causing trouble? You’re really making a good deed backfire!” Guo Luo couldn’t stand his wife’s self-directed drama, harshly closed his eyes, shook his head, and interrupted ruthlessly.

“Eh?” Beauty Sai was stunned, utterly clueless.

Seeing this, Guo Luo immediately dragged her a bit further from the Guest Garden, whispering anxiously, “I thought something was off from the start, the scene looks so familiar, turns out it was you causing the trouble! You’re the one who created this mess!”

“Uh…” Beauty Sai looked aggrieved.

“It’s one thing for you to come up with a bad idea out of nowhere, but who told you to steal food? Huh? Huh?” Guo Luo asked hopelessly, pounding his chest.

“I…” Beauty Sai blinked, her pregnant face looking more innocent, “I’m with child, nurturing a Guo family baby, what’s wrong with eating a bit more? Sister-in-law said eating more is fine as long as I can exercise it off…”

“Brother Shui Mu thought it was sister-in-law sneaking food!”

Guo Luo’s words cut off Beauty Sai’s unfinished explanation.

“Eh?” Beauty Sai’s unfinished words were stuck in her mouth, her eyes widening in disbelief, her entire being momentarily paralyzed.

“Brother Shui Mu thought it was sister-in-law who was sneaking food, so he wasn’t in a hurry. Your trick didn’t work! Sister-in-law’s still hungry for nothing!” Guo Luo rolled his eyes at his wife, tapping her head, disappointed as he continued, “Look at you, these little women’s tricks might work on me but encouraging sister-in-law to do this, who is she, she hails from a…”

Here, Guo Luo paused, not voicing what he assumed to be Gu Changsheng’s identity!

“Godfather! What a misunderstanding this is! No! I must find Wise Brother Shui Mu and clarify, that food was clearly eaten by me, sister-in-law is still starving!” Realizing the situation, Beauty Sai, the big-bellied woman, immediately panicked, turning on her heel to go find Zhou Mu to explain.

Guo Luo, quick-eyed and hand fast, grabbed his wife, blocking her path, sighed and said, “Xi Shi, you truly know how to add to the chaos, what kind of lousy ideas are you coming up with…”
