Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 403: Chapter 271: Give an Inch, Take a Mile Chapter 403: Chapter 271: Give an Inch, Take a Mile Yuan Bao’s head snapped up in an instant, his hand painfully clutching at his forehead!

Again? It was bad enough that Miss Huo kept sending things to her lord every day, but she was insatiable, insisting on watching him eat them with her own eyes!

As Zhou Mu’s personal attendant, Yuan Bao really wanted to step forward and test if those so-called tonic gifts had any added ingredients, but to prevent Huo Shuixian from getting suspicious, he had to endure.

“Brother Mu?” Seeing Zhou Mu’s lack of response for a long time, Huo Shuixian called out lightly in confusion, her stunningly beautiful face with big, watery eyes filled with affection, carrying a hint of pleading and a trace of grievance.

Zhou Mu saw this, and his eyes darkened, finally nodding his head.

Actually, he only had a superficial understanding of medicine. Having eaten such things for several days, he really hadn’t found anything wrong with the tonics sent by Huo Shuixian. It was just that her eagerness made him feel dubious.

Seeing Zhou Mu nod, Huo Shuixian immediately smiled sweetly and turned her head to signal Ru Yu to serve the Longan Lotus Seed Porridge.

“Brother Mu, can you taste if Shuixian’s cooking skills have improved?” Huo Shuixian asked with a pure smile, like a child seeking praise.

Under her expectant gaze, Zhou Mu slowly scooped up a spoonful of Longan Lotus Seed Porridge and brought it to his lips, his movements as ever noble and elegant.

The Longan Lotus Seed Porridge tasted fine as it entered his mouth, and Zhou Mu’s long eyelashes faintly lowered, barely nodding.

Seeing that her beloved had approved, Huo Shuixian was sweeter than if she had eaten honey, and with a delighted laugh from the bottom of her heart, she said, “As long as Brother Mu likes it, Shuixian will make it for you every day!”

“Cough!” At the sight of his lord compromising to eat the tonic again and hearing Huo Shuixian’s words, Yuan Bao couldn’t help but cough out loud.

Godfather! Every day? Wouldn’t that mean his lord had to eat it every day?

When would such days ever end?

Look how wronged his lord was! He could hardly bear to watch it himself!

“Brother Mu, I heard that the famed Jiaowei Zither has been found by you. You know Shuixian has loved music since she was little; I wonder if I might have the honor of playing a piece for you, Brother Mu, and allow you to rest awhile?” Huo Shuixian suggested happily as she watched Zhou Mu elegantly eating the food she brought.

Yuan Bao was stunned at her words.

He was wrong! What was this about being insatiable? What he thought was insatiable was not enough at all! This was true insatiability!

The Jiaowei Zither, being the first among the four great famous zithers, was a treasure of Prince Mu’s Mansion! His lord was quite skilled in music, which is why he spared no effort to find this Jiaowei Zither!

His lord definitely wouldn’t agree this time!

“Yuan Bao, bring the Jiaowei Zither!”

Before Yuan Bao had finished his thoughts, he heard his lord’s voice, leaving him completely dumbstruck.

And Huo Shuixian was overjoyed!

She just knew that Brother Mu would never refuse her!

Seeing this, Yuan Bao had no choice but to lower his head dejectedly and retreat to the Library Pavilion in the back, where he fetched the Jiaowei Zither and returned.

Zhou Mu continued to eat the Longan Lotus Seed Porridge slowly and methodically, while Huo Shuixian prepared to play the zither, burning incense and washing her hands, all the while admiring the Jiaowei Zither, “As expected of the famous Jiaowei Zither, unpretentious and straightforward, simple without adornment, it has the air of a noble family; no ordinary zither can compare.”

Nonsense! Yuan Bao couldn’t help but mutter in his heart.

Did it even need saying? If an ordinary zither could compare, wouldn’t they be all over the streets? Would it still be the famed Jiaowei Zither then?

Huo Shuixian finished her zither preparations and, with great care and esteem, took her seat behind the zither table, her posture graceful. Her delicate fingers slowly covered the strings but did not yet start playing.

Zhou Mu had only eaten a little before passing the bowl to Yuan Bao by his side.

Understanding, Yuan Bao hurriedly cleared it away.

“The ancients said there are five situations when not to play the zither: not in strong wind or heavy rain, not before the mundane world, not before commoners, not without sitting properly, and not without proper attire. Moreover, it is said: ‘High mountains and running waters, finding a true connoisseur is difficult…’” Huo Shuixian felt the warm touch of the paulownia wood under her fingertips and, with her lips parted, began to speak slowly.

Yuan Bao rolled his eyes at her words, showing off! She knew she was learned and talented, did she really have to flaunt it?

Hearing her words, Zhou Mu did not show agreement or dissent, calmly lifted his teacup for a sip, leaned back in the armchair, closing his eyes to rest, his mind inadvertently wandering to what the woman in Baili Mountain had said when he played the zither for her.

“A zither made from a rotten piece of wood burnt black as coal, and you treat it like a treasure, worshipping it; if you ask me, you might as well split it for firewood, more practical that way!”

Thinking of her scornful manner, intent on burning the zither and boiling the crane, Zhou Mu couldn’t help but smile slightly.

Huo Shuixian looked up to see Zhou Mu’s faint smile and for an instant, she was lost in thought.
