Chapter 294: Chapter 178: Banished to the Guest Room Chapter 294: Chapter 178: Banished to the Guest Room Gu Changsheng was returning to the small courtyard under Baili Mountain, and Zhou Mu was bound to follow.

Therefore, not only did Zhou Mu come today, but he also brought the extremely precious Prince Bao with him.

Gu Changsheng had someone place the unconscious Zhou Zongbao, Prince Bao, in the western chamber of Yue Xilou, where he used to stay, and couldn’t help feeling sentimental when closing the door.

“Flower Peacock kidnapped my son, do you think he could ‘use the Emperor to command the princes’ and force us to hand over those two elders?”

Zhou Mu thought for a moment, then shook his head, “No, he’s unrestrained in his actions but always forthright, he would disdain such methods, and moreover, Gu Ze is his beloved disciple, he wouldn’t use him as a pawn.”

“I think so too, I’m just worried that I tricked him too harshly recently. He might try to recoup his losses through my son.”

In the distance, Gu Changsheng rarely reflected on himself.

Zhou Mu shook his head with a chuckle, “You’re overthinking it.”

Gu Changsheng nodded, “I also think so, tricking Flower Peacock is like Zhou Yu beating Huang Gai, one willing to strike, and the other willing to endure, perfectly in sync!”

A sudden thwack on the head, Gu Changsheng rubbed the stricken spot and looked resentfully at Zhou Mu, the culprit.

“Why hit me?”

“Stay away from Yue Xilou in the future!” Zhou Mu’s face darkened slightly.

Gu Changsheng tilted his head and looked up and down at Zhou Mu, with a hint of scorn on his lips, “For someone whose disciple became my son’s mentor in your presence, and who agreed to let him stay at my house, you really put on such a sour face. Who are you showing this to?”

Zhou Mu, seeing that she was getting angry, quickly softened his expression and coughed softly in slight embarrassment, “Back then, I was about to set out for Southern Fujian. I was worried you might have an accident left alone in Liuzhou. It’s better to have someone to look after you.”

“So, now that you’re back, I’m supposed to keep my distance from others, hm?” Gu Changsheng rolled her eyes.

“Of course,” Zhou Mu replied without hesitation. His woman was under his protection, that was enough!

“Tsk tsk…” Gu Changsheng walked circles around Zhou Mu, smirking, “True to the Imperial Family’s style, no sooner have we crossed the river than you’ve torn down the bridge, a true ingrate that bites the hand that feeds…”

Zhou Mu’s face froze momentarily, and in the next instant, Gu Changsheng had already sprinted far away as if fleeing.

“I’m going to prescribe a sedative for your relative so he doesn’t wake up crazy tomorrow.” Gu Changsheng threw out the statement before diving into the clinic that had been set aside in the small courtyard.

Zhou Mu, watching her vanish, shook his head helplessly and started towards Gu Changsheng’s bedroom.

Lau Quansheng’s family had already returned to the city. At the moment, Dong Lei was blocking Zhou Mu’s path with a kitchen knife in hand.

“Wood, uh, I mean! Commandery Prince Mu, Mistress said you can’t stay in her room anymore.” Dong Lei maintained his composure as much as possible while wielding two kitchen knives.

Blocking the path of the renowned and formidable Commandery Prince Mu, Dong Lei sweated with nerves. The task his mistress entrusted him was incredibly challenging.

He truly feared an angry Commandery Prince Mu might just smack him to death…

“Why?” Zhou Mu, with his path blocked, asked with a slight frown.

Dong Lei hurriedly explained, “Mistress said your external injuries are almost healed, and she no longer needs to look after you closely. Plus, isn’t your relative settled in the western wing? Without a proper reason, it’s already a stretch to take you in. Wishing for more would be delusional.”

Seeing Zhou Mu’s darkening complexion, Dong Lei hastily added, “Those were Mistress’s words, truly not mine!”

She was entirely innocent. Blocking the path of Commandery Prince Mu was more exhausting than cooking a hundred meals!

Zhou Mu glanced at the western chamber where Zhou Zongbao was housed and then at the pharmacy, his gaze dropped, “Where is the room you’ve arranged for me?”

Dong Lei pointed to the eastern chamber with the kitchen knife, cautiously saying, “Next to Little Monk Bu Jie. Mistress said… listening to the wooden fish and the chanting can purify the mind and suppress desires, which is beneficial for mental and physical health…”

Zhou Mu’s face, which had just softened, darkened once again.

Purify the mind and suppress desires? She really dares to say that!

“Commandery Prince Mu, please bear with it. Mistress has been healing you and spending her days preparing antidotes, worrying herself sick. She’s visibly thinner, so please don’t bother her anymore…” Dong Lei muttered, knife in hand.

Thoughts of Gu Changsheng’s small face and the inescapable dark circles under her eyes made Zhou Mu’s heart ache. He gave Dong Lei a glance, “What are you waiting for?”

“Ah?” Dong Lei looked up perplexed, at that moment what else could she be but dazed?

“Aren’t you going to prepare some tasty food? Your mistress likes chicken feet and soy sauce pig’s trotters, get them ready and deliver to the pharmacy,” Zhou Mu ordered indifferently, seemingly nonchalant.

“But Mistress doesn’t allow random things to be brought into the pharmacy,” Dong Lei scratched her head.

Zhou Mu coldly swung his sleeves and turned around, “Then won’t you call her out?”

How can this smart-looking girl be so wooden and slow when it comes to doing things?

Dong Lei scratched his head as he watched Zhou Mu’s retreating figure disappear into the east wing room, feeling on the verge of tears, “Call the madam out? From the pharmacy? Prince Mu, you stand there and talk without a backache, if you’re so capable, go and call her yourself!”

His wife regards medicinal herbs as her life, and once she buries herself in the pharmacy, unless she wants to come out, no one should disturb her or they’ll be in for a fight!

Even if she were foolish, she wouldn’t go and knock on the door, alright!

“Enough, I might as well make something delicious and wait at the door for the madam to come out.” Dong Lei smacked his forehead with the kitchen knife and muttered to himself as he walked to the kitchen, “Chicken feet and soy pork trotters are a must, but what else should I make? Right, the madam said drinking alcohol in moderation can relieve fatigue, I should check whether the grape wine she brewed a while back is ready…”

This time, Gu Changsheng didn’t lock herself away in the pharmacy for long and soon came out with two packets of medicinal herbs.

Dong Lei, holding a small nanmu wine barrel, greeted her at the door, eager to report his feat of sending Prince Mu off to the guest room.

Then, she offered the small nanmu barrel, “Madam, please check whether this grape wine is ready? It already smells fragrant to me.”

Gu Changsheng leaned over to smell it and lifted the lid to check, then nodded in satisfaction, “It’s ready, we can fill it into the wine jars. Yuan Bao will come by tomorrow, ask him for more green grapes, we should brew more grape wine for the winter!”

Dong Lei nodded hurriedly, “Yes, madam, I understand.”

“Steep these two packets of herbs in water for a quarter hour, then boil them. This packet is a tranquilizing and purifying decoction, give it to the person in the west wing; this packet is Zhou Mu’s medicine, boil it and bring it to him,” Gu Changsheng instructed as she placed the two packets on top of the wine barrel, still not at ease, “Just make sure not to mix them up, alright?”

“Madam, rest assured, you’ve taught me to identify the herbs, I still remember them clearly!” Dong Lei hurriedly nodded and ran to the kitchen.

Gu Changsheng stood in the courtyard, watching the sunset cast a lingering glow across the sky, and couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

When Zhou Mu stepped out, what he saw was this picturesque scene.

The autumn air was crisp and refreshing, a woman in a blazing red dress stood under the eaves looking up at the sky, a small satisfied smile playing on her delicate face, with a dot of blood-red on her forehead, shimmering brightly.

The scene was so beautiful that he felt a moment of dizziness.

“What’s wrong with you? What are you looking at so intently?” Gu Changsheng asked when she noticed Zhou Mu lost in thought, waving her hand in front of his eyes.

Zhou Mu suddenly came back to reality with a slightly flustered blush, clearing his throat, “Well, I was just admiring your forehead ornament, I failed to notice it a few days ago.”

Gu Changsheng glanced at him irritably, “If you’re looking at me, then just look at me, why the pretense? Heh heh… don’t I look stunning in this get-up?”

Zhou Mu watched the petite woman spinning before him and couldn’t help chuckling, “Alright, I was looking at you, and, yes, I noticed your new forehead ornament.”

Gu Changsheng stopped spinning and hummed, “Do I not look as pretty as this ornament? It’s something my mother left behind, Yuan Bao brought it, along with a painting of my mother, which Uncle Song has kept preserved.”

Zhou Mu saw this and lovingly touched her nose again, “The ornament is indeed beautiful, but it’s still not as pleasing to the eye as my beloved. If she gave birth to a daughter as stunning and captivate as you, who made the Commandery Prince fall head over heels, your mother must also have been quite beautiful, right?”

Gu Changsheng covered her nose that had been touched again and protested, “I told you not to keep touching my nose, what if you flatten it? Then I’ll have to pad my nose, and it’s not as easy here as it was where I came from.”

“Alright, alright!” Zhou Mu said, but his hand reached for Gu Changsheng’s delicate nose again.

Gu Changsheng quickly spun away to avoid his reaching hand.

“You never learn! Hmph!” Gu Changsheng hmphed twice and then approached Zhou Mu with a mysterious look, “Let me tell you, my mother looks so much like me, yet she is even more beautiful by a fraction. Someday when we have time, I’ll let you see that painting, I guarantee it will astonish you.”

Zhou Mu rubbed her head that she had leaned toward him, “Even if she was as strikingly beautiful, I wouldn’t be mesmerized, as my love is for you.”

“Stop it with the handsy act!” Gu Changsheng quickly stepped back, pouting her lips in complaint, “After all, I am the mother of our child, can’t you stop petting my head like you would a pet dog? Just because you’re taller, you think you’re all that, huh?”

“Fine, I won’t touch!” Zhou Mu conceded with indulgence.

Gu Changsheng rolled her eyes at him, “Yeah right, as if I’d believe that!”

She then turned and walked back to the pharmacy, still talking as she moved, “I had Dong Lei prepare the medicine, you should eat dinner and take your medicine early and rest, I’ll head back to the pharmacy to continue my research.”

“Don’t forget to come out for dinner later!” Zhou Mu called after her.

“I know, I know,” Gu Changsheng waved her hand and dove back into the pharmacy.

The scent of the herbs was invigorating, making her feel filled with boundless vitality; Gu Changsheng loved these days surrounded by her medicines.

Although she had agreed with her words, Gu Changsheng was so engrossed in the herbs that she completely forgot the time for dinner.

In the end, it was an impatient Zhou Mu who kicked in the door and carried her out.
