The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

He Ming’s words made the group feel a little guilty.

They knew it was unfair to be so suspicious of someone who had helped them.

But with Lu Sangjiu’s safety on the line, they couldn’t bring themselves to fully trust Fa Shan.

If anything went wrong, it would likely cost Lu Sangjiu her life.

She had disregarded her own safety to get them out. If they couldn’t help at all, or worse, became a hindrance, they would be too ashamed to ever face her again.

So, despite their guilt, they stuck to their convictions.

”Mr. He Ming, we’re truly sorry, but this is about our Little Junior Sister’s life. We have to be cautious.”

Li Qiancheng paused before continuing, ”And... even you have to admit, it’s a bit surprising that your master would be willing to offer two Divinity Transformation Pills to save a few complete strangers, isn’t it?”

He Ming retorted angrily, ”That’s because I begged him! My master has always been kind-hearted. Taking out two Divinity Transformation Pills...”

He trailed off, his aggressive tone softening with obvious hesitation. Still, he forced himself to finish, ”...is nothing strange.”

Even before anyone could rebut him, he felt his own face flush.

As the others stared at him, he grew flustered and angry. ”In any case, my master might have other reasons, but he absolutely does not have malicious intentions!”

Luo Linlang nodded. ”Of course, of course. We hope so, too.”

”But... just to be safe, we’d like to keep this from your master for now. Can you help us keep it a secret?”

He Ming felt that Luo Linlang was talking to him like a child, which only made him angrier. In the end, however, he didn’t argue back. He just gave a cold snort and sullenly walked on ahead.

Feng Lin frowned and started to go after him, but Luo Linlang held her back. She chuckled, gesturing with her chin toward He Ming. ”That means he agreed. Don’t say anything more.”

Feng Lin was confused.

She didn’t understand. Glancing uncertainly from He Ming’s retreating back to Luo Linlang, she asked, ”Are you sure?”

Luo Linlang puffed out her chest, guaranteeing, ”Positive! He’s just a tsundere. I know the type!”

At that, He Ming, who was up ahead, suddenly quickened his pace. You could tell just how angry he was even from his back.

When they arrived at He Ming’s villa, he showed them to his two guest rooms. The four of them split the rooms, the two men in one and the two women in the other.

He still seemed a little angry. After showing them to their rooms, he didn’t come inside.

With a scowl, he said, ”Do whatever you want. It’s none of my business. But I’m going to discuss a plan with my master. We will definitely rescue Ms. Ajiu before you do!”

True to his word, he didn’t linger and left immediately.

Shen Yuzhao hesitated. ”Is Brother Ah Ming angry? Weren’t we a little too harsh just now? Maybe we should...”

Before he could finish, Luo Linlang waved a dismissive hand. ”He’s gone to talk to his master. Don’t worry about him.”

With that, she took out a Communication Talisman and sent a message to Xie Ningyuan.

They waited expectantly, but... the message vanished as if it were a stone dropped into the ocean. There was no reply from Xie Ningyuan.

The group’s hearts sank. Luo Linlang grew anxious. ”What’s going on? Didn’t he say to contact him if anything happened and he’d come right away?”

”Now that something’s actually happened, he’s unreachable? Could this guy be any more unreliable?”

Li Qiancheng’s heart was just as heavy, but he still spoke up in Xie Ningyuan’s defense.

”Little Junior Sister mentioned before that Xie Ningyuan’s master is in poor health. Mr. Xie went out to find medicine for him. Perhaps... perhaps he’s been held up inside some Secret Realm and can’t receive messages.”

Hearing this only made Luo Linlang angrier. ”Isn’t he an Integration Stage Cultivator? How can someone in the Body Integration Realm get stuck in some small Secret Realm? I think he’s just...”

She stopped mid-sentence, realizing even she thought she was being unreasonable.

Seeing Luo Linlang’s eyes turning red, Shen Yuzhao tentatively suggested, ”What if... we contact our master?”

The moment he spoke, everyone whipped their heads around to stare at him. Startled, Shen Yuzhao thought he’d said something wrong and quickly clapped a hand over his mouth, looking at the others with an innocent expression.

To his surprise, however, he saw delight spreading across their faces. Li Qiancheng slapped his forehead. ”We’re so stupid! That’s right, we can ask the sect for help!”

This involves the Western Demon Realm. For something this major, the sect wouldn’t just stand by and let her die, would they?

Even if the sect did want to abandon her, Lu Sangjiu is practically Master Jingxu’s heir. Master Jingxu wouldn’t abandon her, right?

They were so used to relying on themselves for everything that when they truly needed to rely on the sect, the thought hadn’t even occurred to any of them.

Prompted by Shen Yuzhao’s suggestion, Li Qiancheng quickly took out a Communication Talisman to contact his master.

”Master, Little Junior Sister has been captured by Cangming from the Cold Crow Sect! Please ask the sect to rescue her quickly!”

Duan Xingyun replied quickly. Surprisingly, he didn’t sound shocked, just anxious. ”Weren’t you all captured together? You escaped?”

Hearing Duan Xingyun’s response, they suddenly realized, ’Master already knew?’

Feng Lin immediately realized, ”Cangming captured Ye Zhiyao as well. Bai Heng must have been helpless on his own, so he already asked the sect for help.”

”That makes sense. Hiss... The more anxious we get, the worse our brains function.”

Luo Linlang slapped herself on the forehead in frustration. ”Calm down, calm down! We need to think clearly!”

Once they calmed down, they did indeed start to consider more of the potential problems.

”We can tell Master the truth, but first, we need to ask if anyone is with him.”

Otherwise, if other people found out they’d been captured by the Cold Crow Sect, rescued by the Divine Tomb Sect, and were now freeloading at the Divine Tomb Sect’s place, there was no telling what rumors might start.

Especially with Bai Heng’s faction constantly targeting them. They couldn’t afford to give them any ammunition right now.

So, Li Qiancheng cautiously asked Duan Xingyun if it was safe to talk. Duan Xingyun immediately understood his meaning, found a private spot, and then sent his reply.

”I’m at the border of the Western Demon Realm right now. There’s no one else around. You can speak freely.”

Feeling as though he’d finally found his anchor, Li Qiancheng quickly explained everything that had happened. He had to explain why He Ming and his master were willing to help them; otherwise, a misunderstanding could bring trouble to the Divine Tomb Sect.

Duan Xingyun was stunned as he listened. He never would have imagined his disciples could get into so much trouble in such a short time!

But he also believed his disciples’ actions were righteous and just, which made him feel quite gratified.

”I understand the situation. Your involvement is indeed sensitive. I’ll keep it confidential for now and won’t tell anyone else.”

”Also, don’t make any rash moves for the time being. The Sect Leader, two Supreme Elders, and I have all arrived. We’ve already sent a message to the Cold Crow Sect. We should be meeting with Cangming very soon.”
