The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

The guards had a kill-on-sight policy for any Demon Cultivator who dared to cross the border.

At that moment, however, the leader suddenly held up Ye Zhiyao and shouted in a certain direction, ”Bai Heng, your disciple is in my hands! Tell these men to back down, or I’ll kill her!”

Ye Zhiyao could feel that the Demon Cultivator holding her had a very high cultivation, and he wasn’t one of the ones Lu Sangjiu and her group had been escorting.

She had no idea what was happening and was genuinely terrified, letting out a panicked cry, ”Master! Master, save me!”

Her shout made the guards hesitate. ’This person... could she really be the White Sword Venerable’s disciple?’

If she were an ordinary Cultivator, they might not have hesitated so much. After all, anyone who came here had to be prepared to die. If they backed down every time a Demon Cultivator took a hostage, wouldn’t the Demon Cultivators just become more rampant?

But if it was Bai Heng’s disciple, that was a different story.

As they hesitated, Lu Sangjiu and her group caught up. ”Don’t hurt my Senior Sister Ye!”

She looked at the guards with a worried expression and said earnestly, ”I’m a disciple of the Seven Emotions Sect! That’s my Master Bai’s disciple! You have to save her!”

’So it’s true!’ Lu Sangjiu’s words confirmed Ye Zhiyao’s identity, and the guards instantly stopped moving.

Seeing his chance, the Demon Cultivator immediately continued toward the Western Demon Realm.

But he had only taken a few steps when a flash of sword light whooshed in from the distance, landing directly in front of them and blocking their path.

Bai Heng, dressed in white and holding a longsword, stared grimly at the Demon Cultivator holding Ye Zhiyao hostage.

”...Is the Divine Tomb Sect planning to declare war on us, Protector Bai Ye?”

Bai Ye, one of the four great protectors of the Divine Tomb Sect.

Since Bai Heng was stationed at the Western Demon Realm, he had seen portraits of such important figures.

Bai Ye said nonchalantly, ”We haven’t harmed anyone. We’re just trying to pass through on our way home.”

”I hear the White Sword Venerable has always doted on this disciple of his. For the sake of her life, clearing a path shouldn’t be too much to ask, right?”

Lu Sangjiu immediately nodded in agreement. ”That’s right, Master Bai! Senior Sister Ye’s safety is what’s important!”

Luo Linlang burst into tears. ”SOB SOB SOB... Junior Sister Ye is in such a pitiful state! Master Bai, you have to save her!”

Because of her Crying Art, whenever Luo Linlang shed tears, they flowed in torrents and seemed utterly sincere. Anyone who saw her would think she was genuinely worried about Ye Zhiyao.

Bai Heng seemed to have only just noticed they were there. When he saw Lu Sangjiu, an irrepressible killing intent flashed in his eyes. Of course, he knew this wasn’t the time, so he quickly reined it in and looked away.

”What are you all doing here?”

Lu Sangjiu explained with a look of concern, ”We were on business in Qingyun State and thought since we were so close, we might as well come here to broaden our horizons. We didn’t expect to run into Senior Sister Ye on the way, so we decided to travel together.”

”We never imagined something like this would happen on our very first day here! What are we going to do?”

Bai Heng’s brow furrowed. ’I don’t believe Ye Zhiyao would have willingly traveled with them.’ His intuition told him there was more to this, but now was obviously not the time to discuss it.

Bai Ye, growing impatient, cut them off. ”Bai Heng, I’m in no mood to waste time with you. I’ll ask you one more time: are you going to clear the path or not?”

Bai Ye was also at the Divinity Transformation Stage. In a direct confrontation, Bai Heng would not have feared him. But with Ye Zhiyao in his hands, Bai Heng had to hold back for fear of harming the hostage. He had no confidence he could rescue Ye Zhiyao safely.

His expression darkened. Finally, Bai Heng raised a hand and said, ”...Let them pass.”

The guards were deferential to him and immediately moved aside. Bai Heng himself also stepped away.

At the same time, he didn’t forget to add a threat. ”Release Ayao before you enter the Western Demon Realm. Otherwise, even if I have to chase you into the Demon Realm, I will kill every last one of you!”

Bai Ye’s goal this time was simply to retrieve his Young Master and the Demon Cultivators the Young Master had rescued. He was in no mood for a conflict with Bai Heng. Even without the threat, he would have released the girl.

So, he said nothing more and merely signaled for the others to go first, while he brought up the rear with Ye Zhiyao.

There was a weak point in the Barrier here. Bai Ye had already opened an entrance when he came out earlier, so it was easy for everyone to pass through now.

In a flash, only Bai Ye remained outside the Barrier.

But with Bai Ye’s own cultivation, this was basically a success.

Lu Sangjiu couldn’t help but sigh in relief. ’Finally,’ she thought, ’we’ve sent them back safely.’

Moreover, the whole act they put on tonight had successfully cleared their names. Even if Bai Heng wanted to make trouble for them later, he wouldn’t have a reason.

Everything was going as perfectly as planned. But Lu Sangjiu never, ever expected someone to show up and ruin everything at the last minute!

With the Barrier in the way, those outside couldn’t see the situation inside clearly, nor could they hear any sounds.

Therefore, no one could have imagined that just as Bai Ye was retreating to the entrance, another Demon Cultivator would suddenly dart out from within!

The Demonic Qi surrounding this person was extremely potent, and he wore a High-level mask-type Magic Treasure that concealed all his features.

But with a single glance, Lu Sangjiu knew this person was bound to be strong. Perhaps... even stronger than Bai Heng!

The moment he charged out, no one had time to react. His target was clear—he was heading straight for Lu Sangjiu and her companions!

Lu Sangjiu and the others didn’t even have time to register what was happening before their world started spinning, and they felt themselves being sucked into the man’s sleeve.

It all happened so fast that by the time everyone else reacted, the man was already back at the entrance.

Seeing Bai Ye still standing there, dumbfounded and blocking the way, the man impatiently raised his hand to strike him. But when his gaze fell upon Ye Zhiyao, he suddenly froze.

The next moment, he changed his mind. Ignoring Bai Ye, he snatched Ye Zhiyao as well and WHOOSHED through the entrance!

Bai Heng’s expression changed drastically. ”Ayao!”

His cry snapped Bai Ye back to his senses. Fearing he’d be caught in the crossfire, Bai Ye immediately dove through the entrance himself!

After rushing back into the Western Demon Realm, Bai Ye scanned the area but couldn’t see the mysterious man. He didn’t have time to be curious, however, and immediately shouted to Ah Ming and the others who were waiting for him, ”Let’s go! Now!”

Bai Heng, desperate to save Ye Zhiyao, charged into the Western Demon Realm right after them. But his movements were far too slow compared to the mysterious man’s. By the time he entered, the man was long gone.

Even Bai Ye had already taken his people and fled a great distance.

Bai Heng wanted to give chase, but the surrounding Demonic Qi made him deeply uncomfortable. He faltered, and finally stopped.

He gritted his teeth and roared in the direction Bai Ye had fled, ”Bai Ye, I will demand an explanation from your Divine Tomb Sect for this!”

Bai Ye: ???

’What does this have to do with me? I have no idea who that guy was, okay?’

He felt incredibly wronged, and at the same time, a little worried... ’They’re not actually going to use this as a pretext to attack the Divine Tomb Sect, are they?’

’Whatever. I’ll discuss it with the Sect Master when I get back!’
