Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1216: Chapter 1216: Dark Descent (Part 36)

The battle started suddenly and ended just as abruptly.

Chuzheng leaned against the car, her gaze casually falling inside the iron net, where someone was carrying something out.

”Officer, look.”

In their hands was a brightly colored grain.

The person referred to as officer was the base commander Chuzheng had met last time; he didn’t reach out for the grain, just looked at it for a moment.

”Have all the people been caught?”

”A few special ability users escaped, but the rest have been caught.”

Most of the professors inside were ordinary people, with few having awakened special abilities. The other special ability users had been recruited by them; during the fight earlier, a few strong ones managed to escape.

The base commander nodded and ordered a thorough search.

The victims who had been locked up were gradually rescued, most still alive, but not in good condition.

The base commander ordered them to be sent to the base hospital.

When the dust settled, the base commander, surrounded by people, entered inside, with Chuzheng following beside him.

Since she was with the base commander, no one dared to stop her.

The place was far larger than Chuzheng had imagined, with buildings stretching out behind and three levels underground.

”This used to be a laboratory,” the base commander explained to Chuzheng, ”under Professor Gan’s supervision.”

Chuzheng soon met the infamous Professor Gan.

Professor Gan looked a bit bedraggled, clustered with others, his eyes filled with fierce unwillingness and anger.

Seeing the base commander, Professor Gan immediately stood up.

”What are you doing?! Squat down!”

”Base commander!” Professor Gan presumed these people wouldn’t take action and rushed directly toward the base commander, ”Base commander, I have something to say!”

The base commander waved his hand, indicating not to stop Professor Gan.

”Professor Gan, the experiments you’re conducting violate the base’s rules.”

”Base commander, I’m about to succeed, I’m on the brink of success!!” Professor Gan’s face was flushed with excitement, ”Soon ordinary people can have special abilities, we won’t fear zombies anymore, base commander, it’s all for the humans.”

The base commander frowned, looking disgusted, ”You’re using humans for your experiments...”

Professor Gan interrupted before the base commander could finish, ”Sacrifice a few so more can have special abilities. What’s wrong with that? We won’t fear zombies anymore; everyone can be a special ability user!”

Professor Gan was extremely agitated, as if already seeing everyone as special ability users.

”Have you succeeded?”

The clear girl’s voice abruptly cut in.

Professor Gan whipped his head toward Chuzheng, ”I’m about to succeed, just about to succeed!”

”So you’re not yet successful.” The cold white light fell on the girl’s brows and eyes, as if covered with a layer of frost, ”Even if you succeed, can you be sure that ordinary people gaining abilities this way can compare to naturally awakened special ability users? How long will it last? They themselves haven’t got special abilities; what consequences might this awakening bring them? Can they handle it in the end?”

Professor Gan was momentarily stumped by Chuzheng’s questions.

His current experimental progress hadn’t reached that stage.

”Perhaps in the end, your claim that everyone will have special abilities is nothing but hollow talk?” How could anything be so simple? Others’ innate special abilities; you just divide it up, dilute it, mix in a few things, and expect everyone to have it?

Even if it does work, it probably won’t last.

The rules of life are sometimes fair.

Chuzheng lazily stated, ”Everything you’ve done is meaningless.”

Professor Gan: ”No... Impossible!! I will succeed, I’m doing it for everyone, I’m doing it for humanity!”

The base commander probably felt communication with Professor Gan was futile, and ordered someone to take him away first.

Professor Gan panicked and suddenly shouted, ” Hu Da! I want to see Hu Da!!”

The base commander’s face immediately darkened.

”Take him away, bring Hu Da here!”

”Yes.”

Professor Gan was taken away, and the others were gradually escorted out.

”There’s enough data here for you to review, I’ll be leaving now.” Chuzheng didn’t plan to get further involved, and the coming matters these people could handle on their own.

”Miss Chuzheng,” the base commander called her, ”Thank you for this incident.”

If it weren’t for her, even the base commander wouldn’t have known such a place openly existed.

”No need, thank Ji Lin instead.” Aiming for the Good Person Card, and striving to be a good person today!

Ji Lin?

The base commander knew the name; it was the man by her side.

The base commander watched Chuzheng unhurriedly vanish down the corridor.

-

After Professor Gan was taken away, a higher-up in the base with the surname Hu was implicated, leading to other forces being drawn in and the base undergoing a not-so-obvious reshuffling.

All of Professor Gan’s cultivated things were thoroughly destroyed.

Later, during questioning, it was revealed that Professor Gan’s initial discovery was also by chance.

Someone on the brink of death drank the blood of a special ability user and miraculously gained a trace of special ability, albeit very weak and quickly disappearing, but this point gave Professor Gan a bold idea.

The base refused to allow people like Professor Gan, aiming to solve the apocalyptic problem but not by sacrificing these humans.

Also, Professor Gan’s research was questionable.

The base commander convened two days’ worth of meetings with higher-ups and researchers, admonishing those with different thoughts, warning severe punishment for privately conducting such operations.

Professor Gan’s ”Wheat” was entirely destroyed, and this matter didn’t leak from District 2, those in the know were strictly instructed not to cause public panic.

As for those hurt, the base commander stated they would be properly settled.

The base also found some useful information from Professor Gan’s research.

Such as how to prevent a special ability user from turning into a zombie after being bitten—provided the bitten is a special ability user.

Ordinary people have no special abilities and can’t form a certain antibody described by Professor Gan.

If Professor Gan hadn’t strayed, some of his research would indeed have been useful.

-

Ji Lin glanced at the ”Grain” Chuzheng had tossed onto the table, his mouth twitching involuntarily, turning to ask Chuzheng, who was pinching Lele’s face next, ”Why are you keeping this?”

And when did she pinch so many?

There were at least several strings here!!

Chuzheng swiftly withdrew her hand, sitting upright, ”Keeping it as a memento.”

Ji Lin: ”???”

Keep this as a memento?

”Little poker face, what are you up to?”

”What could I be doing?” Chuzheng ”innocently” emphasized, ”I’m a good person.” Trust me!

Ji Lin: ”...”

If she were a good person, then good people in this world would be extinct.

Ji Lin feared Chuzheng might do something inappropriate, watching her constantly, yet Chuzheng didn’t seem to intend to do anything.

Until the day they left the base did Ji Lin realize what Chuzheng planned to do with it; she fed it to the zombies.
