Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 157: Chapter 157 Reaction_1

The two chatted for a while longer until Zhulan started feeling sleepy, her eyes hazily closed. Zhou Shuren thought she had fallen asleep, so he held her closer and sneakily kissed her face. Now that he was back home, his courage seemed to swell; he lowered his head to her lips, soft and ridiculously tempting. Just as he was about to kiss her some more, he felt the skin on his lower back being pinched and silently closed his eyes.

Zhulan inwardly snorted, thinking how this man was getting bolder by the day. She could twist his skin a whole 514 degrees, yet it still hadn’t curbed Zhou Shuren’s audacity. She wondered if she should try a different spot; it seemed like he had gotten used to the pinching on his lower back and wasn’t afraid of the pain anymore.

Zhou Shuren felt the fingers on his waist move upwards, stopping on the side of his ribs, ”....”

Was she picking on his soft flesh to pinch now? He regretted not waiting until Zhulan was sound asleep!

The atmosphere between the two was very pleasant, but things were not so calm in the eldest and second Zhou’s houses—all because Zhou Shuren and Zhulan didn’t plan to hide the news that they had a house in Pingzhou, nor did they instruct their grandchildren not to talk about it.

Moreover, the couple thought that since the Clan Leader already knew and Shu Mo had come back early, he probably had spread the word; their family should be in the know. What they hadn’t anticipated was the Clan Leader treating it as a Zhou family secret, warning Ming Qing and Shu Mo not to mention anything they saw, and with Shu Mo heeding the warning and not willing to go out after failing the exams, there wasn’t a whisper of the news in the village.

Having been absent from home for two months, the children from the eldest and second Zhou’s homes naturally wanted to know how they had been and took the opportunity to probe about the situation of their parents. They were stunned to learn about the house in Pingzhou.

Lady Li’s eyes almost bulged out; she fiercely pinched the master of the house, causing the eldest Zhou to snap back to reality in pain, ”Why are you pinching me?”

Lady Li uttered in surprise, ”Does it really hurt? Did I really not mishear? Our family has a big house in Pingzhou?”

Their eldest son had said as much, that they had buildings both in the front and the back courtyards—wasn’t that a two-entry compound? Pingzhou, the Prefecture City!

Eldest Zhou felt that just when he thought he understood his father, he would be metaphorically slapped in the face, realizing he could never truly see through him. The old man and the old lady were experts at keeping secrets—such a significant matter had been kept completely under wraps.

Ming Teng blinked, ”Dad, mom, what’s wrong with you?”

Lady Li clutched her chest, ”Mother needs a moment to process this.”

Having married into the Zhou family for so many years, only last year had she found out that their family wealth was extraordinarily substantial. This year they even acquired a big house—how much silver coin would that be? Their family was the richest in the village. Thinking of the eunuch becoming a Scholar and recalling the lifestyle her son mentioned in Pingzhou, she pondered whether they would move there too. In an instant, she felt as if she was no longer a villager!

Lady Li, tugging at the master of the house with unusual excitement, said, ”Master, we must be dutiful to our parents, we can’t split from them. We must stay with them for a lifetime.”

Eldest Zhou looked at his wife speechlessly and wanted to say that if there really was to be a separation, it would be the clever younger brothers who would move out. Although he hated to admit it, he and his wife weren’t exactly bright; his parents didn’t trust them to manage on their own!

In the second wife’s quarters, after Zhou Shuren and Zhao’s had finished their discussion, they were the most receptive. After Zhao’s put her daughter and son to bed, she turned to her contemplative husband, ”Dad has had everything planned since he started thinking about becoming a Scholar. From what our daughter said, the house must have been recently acquired.”

Zhou Shuren, ”Mhm, it must have been around the time our parents went to Pingzhou at the beginning of the year. I reckon by next summer at the latest, our whole family will be moving.”

Zhao’s gripped her husband’s hand with excitement, ”Does that mean I might be able to find out about my mother?”

Her mother had been sold in Pingzhou back in the day; could she possibly find her?
