G City, suburban villa

The New Year’s Eve dinner at Mo Xiuchen’s house was rather lively; if it weren’t for uninvited guests, the atmosphere would have been even more harmonious.

Originally, Mo Xiuchen only invited Wen Jin and Gu Yan and his son, but when dinner started that evening, the dining table was packed with people.

Besides Luo Haofeng, who had arrived early in the morning, there were also Mo Jingteng and Mo Zixuan, who were not particularly welcome and appeared at sunset yet seemed to not realise this.

“It’s just Zixuan and me at home, which is too quiet. Old Gu, I heard you were here, so I came to liven things up.”

Mo Jingteng pretended not to see the unwelcome and indifferent expression on Mo Xiuchen’s face, and cordially greeted Gu Yan. Before their arrival, Gu Yan, Luo Haofeng, Wen Jin, and others were chatting happily, but their conversation came to a halt as he entered.

Gu Yan had already heard from Gu Kai that after Mo Jingteng discovered RanRan’s origins, he asked Mo Xiuchen to leave RanRan. If this was the past, he would have considered Mo Jingteng a friend. But now, upon seeing Mo Jingteng, a sense of resentment had grown in his heart.

“Every New Year, it’s just Ah Kai and me. This year, Xiuchen and Ranran invited us, so we came.”

Gu Yan’s words hinted that Mo Jingteng wasn’t invited here.

Mo Jingteng’s thick skin could give any city wall a run for its money. He laughed heartily, saying, “Xiuchen has always been unsatisfied with me, his father. To be honest, he treats me worse than he treats you. I didn’t realise in the past, but now as I get older, I appreciate family more. Isn’t this me trying to improve my relationship with him?”

“We didn’t make much food.”

In front of everyone, Mo Xiuchen made clear that he does not intend to give Mo Jingteng any face.

Everyone here was no stranger to him, except Wen Jin who hadn’t seen the cold demeanor Mo Xiuchen adopts towards Mo Jingteng. The rest, however, seemed used to it.

“No problem, my appetite hasn’t been good lately, and I can’t eat much at night. It’s just one more person, Zixuan.”

Mo Jingteng looked at Mo Xiuchen with a beaming smile. In the afternoon, Mo Zixuan informed him that he had spoken to Mo Xiuchen and was willing to join forces with him to expose Xiao Wenqing and Wu Tianyi.

He didn’t know the specifics of their agreement, but Mo Jingteng was pleased with the result.

Bringing Mo Zixuan here was partially because his home was too quiet, and upon hearing that Gu Yan and his son were here, he couldn’t resist.

On the other hand, he wanted to see what their relationship really was and whether Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran were actually taking medicine every day.

Did Mo Xiuchen fall ill and Wen Ran was accompanying him in taking his medication?

Just as Mo Xiuchen was about to speak, Wen Ran came out from the kitchen. Her beautiful face bore a faint smile, and seeing both Mo Jingteng and Mo Zixuan there, she didn’t show them the same coldness as Mo Xiuchen.

Today was New Year’s Day, and she didn’t want Mo Xiuchen to be in a bad mood. From across the room, she greeted with a smile, “Xiuchen, there is one last dish left for you to make. Please go make it.”

Upon hearing Wen Ran’s words, Mo Jingteng was somewhat surprised. He then noticed that Wen Ran was wearing an apron and Mo Xiuchen seemed to have rolled up his sleeves.

Hearing Wen Ran’s voice, the gloom in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes immediately faded like the tide and he looked at Wen Ran with a gentle gaze, his lips curving up slightly, “Okay, I’ll do it.”

The smile on Wen Ran’s face brightened as she walked over, briefly greeting Mo Jingteng and Mo Zixuan before pulling Mo Xiuchen into the kitchen.

Gu Yan looked lovingly at Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen, his gaze followed them until they entered the kitchen. Although Mo Zixuan had witnessed the depth of Mo Xiuchen’s feelings for Wen Ran, the sight of him laughing happily while following Wen Ran into the kitchen left him with an indescribable feeling…

Inside the kitchen, Wen Ran pulled Mo Xiuchen to the colored glaze counter, untied her apron and gently tied it on him, her voice softly echoing in his ears, “Xiuchen, today is New Year’s Day. You’re not allowed to be unhappy.”

Moved by her words, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes deepened as he gaze at Wen Ran’s beautiful brows, emotions stirring in his eyes.

Seemingly noticing his emotional change, the smile on Wen Ran’s lips grew more tender. After tying his apron, she lifted her hand to gently touch his forehead, “This is our first New Year spent together, and the first New Year’s Eve dinner we’ve cooked together.”

“Ran Ran, I know.”

Mo Xiuchen’s heart skipped a beat.

He couldn’t describe his feelings; the unpleasant feeling brought by Mo Jingteng’s arrival was expelled by the gentleness and love from the woman before him.

Gazing at her tenderly, Mo Xiuchen couldn’t help but reach out his arms, pulling her into his embrace. This empathetic Ran Ran, this Ran Ran who cares so much about him. Even if he has to give up everything he has, it’s all worth it for her.

The New Year’s Eve dinner was harmonious, with Mo Jingteng and Mo Zixuan dining gracefully as guests.

Mo Jingteng also did not cause trouble for Wen Ran.

After dinner, when Nanny Zhang brought out the fruit, she asked Mo Xiuchen, “Young Master, should we take the medicine now?”

Mo Xiuchen’s brows furrowed, but Wen Ran who was by his side, laughing lightly, caught his hand, preventing him from refusing, “Nanny Zhang, bring the medicine.”

Nanny Zhang laughed, “Alright.”

After agreeing, she glanced again at Mo Xiuchen, as if saying, with your wife being here, there’s no way you can avoid taking your medicine.

“Xiuchen, you’re not still afraid of taking medicine now, are you?”

Gu Yan joked, watching Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran with a smile.

Mo Xiuchen responded with a faint smile, “I took so much medicine when I was little that now, when I see it, I’m still afraid.”

Some people get used to taking medicine after doing it for so long, but Mo Xiuchen was clearly not one of them.

Wen Ran’s brows furrowed slightly at Mo Xiuchen’s light-hearted words as they always brought her inexplicable sadness.

Mo Xiuchen caught a glimpse of Wen Ran’s slightly furrowed brows. Underneath the table, he flipped his hand that was being held by her, clasping her small hand in his palm. The smile at the corners of his mouth softened and he said gently, “But now, with Ran Ran by my side, no matter how bitter, I’ll drink it.”

“Young Master, Mistress, the medicine is here.”

Nanny Zhang served the medicine. Wen Ran took her bowl from Mo Xiuchen’s grasp, glanced at him, and then down her bowl of medicine.

Mo Xiuchen looked at her with a gentle, smiling gaze. Seeing her finish drinking a bowl of medicine, he leisurely fed her a date, “Ran Ran, hold this for me.”

He placed another date in her hand before picking up his own bowl of medicine to drink.

“Xiuchen, no wonder you’re willing to take medicine now. With a beauty by your side, has this medicine become sweet? I remember, there was once a time when you didn’t want to drink it and Ah Mu and I had to hold you down while Ah Kai forced you.”

Luo Haofeng witness the sweet interactions between Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran. His peach blossom eyes flashing with envy, he couldn’t help but expose Mo Xiuchen’s past.

“If you don’t speak, no one will mistake you for being mute.”

Mo Xiuchen shot him a look, ate the date that Wen Ran had fed him, and the taste of the medicine quickly disappeared, replaced by the sweetness of the date. The corners of his mouth curved up again.
