Mo Xiuchen squinted his eyes, feeling that Gu Kai’s smile was somewhat eerie.

Upon leaving the office, he hesitated for a moment before pulling out his phone to dial Wen Ran’s number.

“Sorry, the number you dialed is currently in a call.”

The electronic voice in his ear caused Mo Xiuchen to crease his forehead slightly. He glanced back at Gu Kai’s office, thinking that he couldn’t have dialed her number that fast.

In actuality, the one giving Wen Ran a call was indeed Gu Kai.

As soon as Mo Xiuchen left the office, he pulled out his phone and dialed Ranran’s number. He had been provoked earlier and now, he intended to ask Ranran out, aiming to make Mo Xiuchen’s trip to the Wen Family a wasted effort.

Wen Ran had been sitting in the living room, sorting through some items with Wen Jin. She had found a photo album and was eagerly reviewing the old pictures with him.

“Brother, look, these were taken the year you were accepted into college. You were about to move away for school, and I didn’t want to let you go, so I made you take lots of photos with me…”

As Wen Ran tilted her head, pointing at the pictures while recalling memories with Wen Jin, She was a young blossoming girl and Wen Jin was incredibly handsome, truly picturesque.

She hugged his arm, resting her head on his bicep, pulling various playful faces, a picture of untold joy.

As he looked at the photographs, Wen Jin’s eyes became distant. He could never forget that year. That was when his father warned him to never reveal Ranran’s true identity to anyone and to never harbor any inappropriate feelings for Ranran.

“Brother, you…”

Just as Wen Ran was about to continue speaking, the sudden ringing of her phone interrupted her. She handed the album to Wen Jin, taking out her phone to see that it was Older Brother Gu calling her.

“Answer your call first, we can continue looking at the album later.”

Wen Jin put his emotions aside, giving her a gentle smile. He placed the album aside, continuing to pack up the items.

Wen Ran said ‘okay’, then answered the phone. Her voice was light and crisp,”Hello, Brother!”

“Ranran, I heard that you are at Wen Jin’s place.”

Gu Kai’s cheerful voice was heard from the other end of the line, warm and doting as though bringing spring during winter.

Wen Ran glanced over at Wen Jin who was still tidying up, her eyes curving into a smile, “Yes, I’m helping my brother organize some things. Did Mo Xiuchen tell you?”

After all, Mo Xiuchen had brought her here before going to the hospital to seek him out.

“Ranran, let me tell you, Mo Xiuchen just came to show off to me and then just left. Poor me, I have no one to accompany me and I still have to work. Why don’t you come and keep me company?”

Gu Kai’s tone changed from the earlier breezy and upbeat to one of self-pity.

Wen Ran was taken aback at first, then she burst into laughter: “So, Mo Xiuchen went to show off at your place?”

She didn’t believe that Mo Xiuchen would do something so childish. If he visited Gu Kai, it must be about something that Mo Xiuchen didn’t want her to know about. He had been evading her query these days.

“Exactly, not only did he come to show off, but he also told me to work properly, to not get complained by patients before leaving. He also said that he was going to see you, so Ranran, why don’t you and Wen Jin come to the hospital? I’ll treat you for dinner tonight. Actually, stay over at my place tonight, so that Mo Xiuchen can’t have his way.”

Gu Kai shared his plan, frustrated with Mo Xiuchen’s excessive actions. He’d show him who was boss, he might not have a wife, but he had a little sister.

Ranran was not only Mo Xiuchen’s, he, as her brother, also had the right to take Ranran away.

Wen Ran was a little hesitant, “But we haven’t finished packing up here.”

“Ranran, are you neglecting me now that you have Mo Xiuchen? You promised me last time that you would help me find a girlfriend. Come to me now, and I will let you know about my preferences in my girlfriend. Let Wen Jin bring you over.”

“Alright then, I’ll get there in a bit.”

Unable to resist Old Brother Gu’s ‘pleads,’ Wen Ran reluctantly agreed.

“Great, if Mo Xiuchen calls you, you are not allowed to tell him that you are with me. Let’s play a trick on him and see if he still dares to show off in front of me.”

Gu Kai sounded rather pleased with himself over the phone.

Wen Ran couldn’t help but laugh, her clear and bright eyes full of mirth, “Alright, I promise you that I won’t tell him if he calls.”

“Ranran, what did Gu Kai tell you?”

Wen Jin looked up at Wen Ran, her eyes twinkling with laughter.

“He said Mo Xiuchen had gone to the hospital to taunt him earlier, and told him to work well and not get complained by the patients. Feeling a little aggrieved, he called me and planned for us to go to the hospital and meet him. When Mo Xiuchen comes looking for me later, he won’t be able to find me.”

Wen Ran clearly explained Gu Kai’s intentions. Wen Jin raised an eyebrow and a playful smile appeared on his face. He stood up, tossing aside the item in his hand, “Alright, I’ll accompany you to the hospital now.”

“Brother!”

Wen Ran’s eyes widened in surprise.

How could he be so much like Old Brother Gu? Did they find it gratifying to make Mo Xiuchen look bad?

Wen Jin looked at her astonished gaze, let out a hearty laugh and ruffled her nose, “Mo Xiuchen has already earned our ire. Ranran, Gu Kai is right, we must teach him a lesson and make him stay low-profile next time.”

As Wen Ran gazed at Wen Jin mirthfully, he stood up and head towards the bathroom.

“Ranran, quickly pack up your things. I will wash my hands and we can leave. Remember, don’t tip off Mo Xiuchen.”

When Wen Jin reached the bathroom door, he turned back and reminded her, fearing that she might switch sides.

“I won’t re-…”

Before Wen Ran could finish, her phone rang. It was a call from Mo Xiuchen.

Her forehead begins to crease, she hesitated as she looked at her vibrating phone. The contact name labeled ‘Husband’ was constantly flashing on the screen.

“I’ll take it!”

Wen Jin swiftly got up, without even having the time to dry his hands, he strode up to her, quickly wipe his hand on his clothing and grabbed her phone, answering the call, “Hello!”

“Wen Jin, why is it you? Where is Ranran?”

Wen Jin put the call on speaker, and Mo Xiuchen’s voice projected clearly from the phone. He hushed Wen Ran with his eyes and calmly responded: “Ranran went to Bai Xiaoxiao’s house, she forgot to take her phone as it was charging.”

“She’s at Bai Xiaoxiao’s house?”

Mo Xiuchen’s voice was full of doubt, he was clearly not buying it.

“Yes, just now, I called her to ask if she needed us to deliver it, but she told me not to bother and that she would come and get it in the evening.”

“I’m on my way to your house now, I’ll pick it up for her.”

Mo Xiuchen cut off the call before Wen Jin even had time to respond. He was probably about to ring Bai Xiaoxiao to verify if Ranran was actually at her place.

“Ranran, Mo Xiuchen will be here soon, let’s leave.”

Wen Jin wore a smug smile.

“He will call Xiaoxiao, and then he’ll find out that you lied to him.”

Looking at Wen Jin’s arrogant grin, Wen Ran couldn’t help but deflate his enthusiasm. Wen Jin just laughed it off: “What difference does it make even if he finds out, by the time he gets here, we will have already left.”
