Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Big Brother brings back good news

Once Bai Ruozhu was out of sight, Zhou Deshun’s wife returned to the yard and said to Tao Hua’s mother, who was in the room caring for Tao Hua, ”They’ve done such a big favor for your child, Tao Hua, don’t you think you should at least see them off?”

Tao Hua’s mother, a little taken aback, replied, ”We don’t know if the treatment is going to work yet. If it ends up not working and my daughter has to go through all that pain for nothing, I would rather wait for a few more days. I still have hope that the dog’s shoulder-pressing method could work.”

”I told you that the dog’s shoulder-pressing method won’t work. Didn’t we try it a few days ago? You said it didn’t go well, but isn’t that just making the child endure more pain for longer? Aren’t you afraid it’ll get even worse? Look at the puss in Tao Hua’s wound, hasn’t Ruozhu told the truth?!” Zhou Deshun’s wife glared at her sister-in-law, wondering when she had become so muddled.

With her face blushing and paling alternately under the scoldings, Tao Hua hurriedly interrupted to comfort her mother, saying, ”Mom, my foot doesn’t hurt as much as it did. You see, before I was groaning constantly with pain, but now, it’s been a while since I last groaned.”

A look of joy spread across Tao Hua’s mother’s face, ”Really? Could the treatment be working?”

Tao Hua nodded, ”I think it works, but the application of the medicine hurts terribly.” Her face twinged, her somewhat sparse eyebrows furrowing into tiny furrows.

”You’ll feel much better tomorrow. You just have to bear it for a bit longer,” her mother, seeing a glimmer of hope, was now comforting Tao Hua.

A bit disgruntled, Zhou Deshun’s wife left their room. Not long after, the men of the Zhou family returned from the fields. She told Zhou Deshun and Zhou Dehai about Bai Ruozhu treating Tao Hua’s foot.

”I’m not just praising Ruozhu for the sake of it. She really is capable. She saved the Zhu family’s child, later suggested an idea to keep the baby safe in Wang LaiDi’s belly. Tao Hua also just said she feels much better.” Zhou Deshun’s wife said, smiling.

”Moreover, I offered to pay the consultation fee, after all, she used up a lot of her medicinal materials. But Ruozhu refused, saying she was just returning a favor.” she added.

Zhou Deshun and Zhou Dehai kept nodding, praising Bai Ruozhu as a good girl.

By the time Zhou Dehai went to check on his daughter, Tao Hua was already asleep. The poor girl hadn’t had a good night’s sleep because of the pain in her foot. She was clearly feeling a lot more comfortable now.

Seeing Tao Hua sleeping soundly, the couple expressed their gratitude to Bai Ruozhu once more.

Bai Ruozhu hurried back home, as she wanted to check on her mother as soon as possible to see if she had any news of Guizhi.

When she got home, her mother was still not back. After pacing the yard several times, it was Rongrong’s mother who convinced her to sit down and rest.

While Bai Ruozhu was usually quite composed, she was very concerned about those she cared for, and it showed when they were in trouble.

Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Lin Ping’er returned. Bai Ruozhu rushed to close the courtyard door and asked, ”Mom, how is it?”

Lin Ping’er shook her head, ”I asked the people near Guizhi’s house, and they all said they haven’t seen her in the past few days. Only Old Lady Liu saw her three or four days ago and said her eyes were red and her voice was nasally, indicating she had caught a chill.”

”I asked around and no one has seen the Fang family invite Doctor Li.” Lin Ping’er added.

Bai Ruozhu got up immediately, ”I’ll go to the Fang family again. If she’s sick, she needs treatment. What’s the point of procrastinating?”

Though Lin Ping’er called out in an attempt to stop her, Bai Ruozhu ran off like a gust of wind straight to the Fang family’s compound. At the door, she knocked and announced she could treat Fang Guizhi. The Fangs, however, did not open the door.

In the end, the neighbors all came out and asked Bai Ruozhu what was going on. Hastily, Bai Ruozhu said, ”My aunt told me earlier that Guizhi had caught a chill, so I went back to get some prescriptions to help her. It can’t be good to keep delaying treatment when she’s sick, right?”

”Yes, yes, my old man procrastinated too much before, and only after being sick for nearly half a year did he finally get better.” Aunt Liu sighed on the side, ”If he had treated it earlier, he definitely wouldn’t have been sick for so long.”

Many people agreed with this statement, but someone said to Bai Ruozhu: ”It seems that the Fang family has gone out, there’s no one at home, your calling is useless.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly asked, ”Did you see Aunt Fang and Guizhi leaving together?”

”No, speaking of it, I haven’t seen that girl Guizhi in the last few days.” The speaking daughter-in-law also showed a puzzled expression.

”If Guizhi is at home, why isn’t she responding? Is it possible that she fainted out of sickness? If no one is home, we can’t delay, should we think about getting in to check?” Bai Ruozhu thought this was a good opportunity, perhaps she could see Fang Guizhi.

”I wasn’t monitoring constantly, maybe Guizhi went out earlier.” The daughter-in-law, afraid of causing trouble, hurriedly added another sentence.

At this time, the voice of Fang Guizhi’s brother, Fang Fugong, came from the yard: ”What’s all the noise outside? Can’t one sleep in peace?”

Sleeping all the time even before dinner, the young man from the Fang family is really lazy! Many people showed contempt.

”Brother Fang, is Guizhi home? Can I see her?” Bai Ruozhu asked loudly.

Fang Fugong replied with an impatient tone, ”My mother took her to my grandma’s house, I’m going back to sleep, don’t disturb me!”

With the conversation taking this turn, it was useless for Bai Ruozhu to continue knocking on the door, she returned home somewhat dejected. Dinner was prepared by Lin Ping’er and Rongrong’s mother. Bai Ruozhu quickly fed Dengdeng, who was crying from hunger, and then joined the family for dinner.

”Ruozhu, don’t overthink it, tomorrow when I go to the field, I’ll ask Guizhi’s father for you.” Seeing his daughter’s absent-minded appearance, Bai Yihong took a piece of meat and stir-fried green veggies for her with his chopsticks.

”Alright.” Bai Ruozhu nodded, for now, this was all they could do.

Just after the family had finished dinner, there was a noise at the courtyard gate. Bai Zehao ran to open the door and quickly shouted joyfully: ”Dad, Mom, little sister, second brother is back!”

Bai Zepei came back so quickly, which meant that things went very smoothly. He walked into the main hall with big strides. Although there was fatigue on his face, he wore a faint smile.

”Everything’s settled, here’s the lease.” Bai Zepei handed over the lease to Bai Yihong.

”That’s certainly something to congratulate your family for.” Rongrong’s mother happily congratulated them. The two families were close, and the Zhang couple knew all about the land purchase. Of course, they were tight-lipped individuals.

Bai Yihong opened the lease to take a look, passed it around for the rest of the family to see, then excitedly said: ”From now on, our family will have a larger harvest.”

Very soon, everyone gathered around Bai Zepei, asking him whether his trip to Linjiang Village had gone smoothly. Bai Zepei, however, turned to Bai Ruozhu and said, ”After I leased the land, I suddenly heard some news saying that a girl from our village is getting married to someone from Linjiang Village. Because of this, I specifically instructed the Zhou couple, who are renting the land, to be tight-lipped about it.”

A shock ran through Bai Ruozhu’s heart, her intuition told her that this matter, which her second brother was talking about, must have something to do with Guizhi!
