Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 144: Chapter 144 Mother Falls Sick

Bai Ruozhu’s heart clenched, ”Second Brother, why didn’t you say earlier?”

Bai Zepei glanced at her, his gaze somewhat deep, ”Even if I’d told you earlier, could you do anything about it? Xiaosi is Uncle’s son, can you interfere with their family affairs?”

”But...” Bai Ruozhu didn’t know how to continue. She knew her second brother was right. She couldn’t prevent how the old mansion treated Si Lang. There were no women and children’s protection organizations in ancient times!

She felt as if Xiaosi was living in hell, or to say, dealing with domestic violence and even cold violence every day. She even wanted to save Xiaosi from this hell, but what right did she have to make Xiaosi leave his birth parents?

The room fell silent. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Finally, Bai Ruozhu sighed and said, ”Let’s think of a solution slowly. For now, let’s help him as much as we can.”

Her words brought a layer of comfort to everybody’s heart because that was all they could do.

After speaking, Bai Ruozhu got up and went to the kitchen. Xiaosi was hiding in there, eating his meal. She planned to join him, talk to him, and at least teach him to run away when he was being beaten, instead of standing his ground stubbornly.

After talking to Xiaosi for a while, she shared her idea with him: ”Xiaosi, if they hit you and you are not wrong, you shouldn’t be beaten.”

Xiaosi stopped eating and looked up at Bai Ruozhu, his eyes somewhat vacant, with no sign of anger.

”I know.” He responded in a muffled voice.

”Then if you shouldn’t be beaten, learn to dodge and don’t get hurt.” Bai Ruozhu said, patting him on the head.

Xiaosi remained stunned for a few seconds before finally nodding seriously. Bai Ruozhu knew he really understood, which set her mind at ease a bit.

”Mother, Mother, what’s wrong with you?” Bai Zehao suddenly shouted from the in house.

Hearing his voice, Bai Ruozhu quickly left the kitchen and ran into the main hall. She saw her mother unconscious on the floor and her father was along with her brothers helping the fainting mother onto the bed.

”Wha-What happened? Wasn’t she fine just now?” Rongrong’s mother, too, heard the noise and rushed over with Rongrong.

Bai Ruozhu did not ask more questions, but rushed over and took her mother’s wrist to check her pulse.

She had always known that her mother’s health was not good, primarily due to postnatal complications combined with blood deficiency. She had been secretly nourishing her mother’s health. However, since she was confined to the house after giving birth, the process of recuperation had slowed down.

And recently, after working so hard in the fields, her mother, who seemed like she just had her period, never mentioned any discomfort and insisted on working, even touching cold water. Now, her body had finally given up.

Bai Ruozhu scolded herself internally. She had been too careless. How could she not have noticed her mother’s period?

”I’m going to fetch Doctor Li!” Bai Zehao stated, heading for the door but Bai Ruozhu stopped him. Since her medical skills were already known by the family, there was no need to conceal anything anymore. Even though her divine guidance in the dream was quite miraculous, luckily in this era, most people believe these things.

”Big Brother, I can take care of Mother.” Not to boasted, but Bai Ruozhu’s medical skills were definitely superior to Doctor Li’s, especially when it came to treating women’s diseases.

”Can this work?” Bai Zehao glanced at Bai Yihong, looking somewhat uncertain.

Bai Ruozhu did not explain much, simply pressing a few acupuncture points on her mother. Sure enough, Lin Ping’er gradually woke up, though she looked pale and her eyes were listless.

When everyone saw Lin Ping’er regain consciousness, they felt reassured about Bai Ruozhu’s medical skills.

”Mother, you need to take better care of yourself. You must rest at home tomorrow, and let me take care of you properly. Everything has to go by my orders!” Bai Ruozhu said sternly, she could not afford to let her mother act recklessly in the future.

After saying this, Bai Ruozhu rubbed a few places on Lin Ping’er’s waist and abdomen to improve her condition. Lin Ping’er began to liven up, squeezing a faint smile onto her face. ”I feel much better, our Ruozhu is becoming more and more powerful.”

”You should lie down now, I will make some medicine for you, and you’re not allowed to get up. Dad, please watch mother.” said Bai Ruozhu. She quickly returned to her room and gathered the medicinal materials she used to recover post-partum which can help her mother’s blood deficiency.

Before long, Bai Ruozhu brought the medicine soup over and helped Lin Ping’er to sit up to drink it. Lin Ping’er trusted her daughter and drank it all in one go without complaining about the bitterness.

”Alright, mother, you should rest early. Recently, you really can’t overwork yourself.” Otherwise, her aged body would have more problems. Bai Ruozhu left the rest of her thoughts unsaid. Her mother was only 37 years old, not even 40 yet - how could she be so worn out at this age?

So that Lin Ping’er could get a good rest, everyone went back to their rooms. Bai Ruozhu took Rongrong’s mother to her room and asked her: ”Auntie, could you please help me look after my mother tomorrow, I need to go to the town to get some medicine.”

Rongrong’s mother agreed immediately: ”Rest assured, I will help you take care of your mother and not let her do any work.”

Bai Ruozhu gratefully smiled at Rongrong’s mother who was so understanding.

She returned to her room and sighed softly, then picked up Dengdeng to feed her. Her mind was filled with worries. She wasn’t concerned about her mother’s illness because she knew how to treat it as a medical student. But her mother’s illness meant she couldn’t be overworked, and with the current situation at home, it was difficult to avoid hard work.

Moreover, her mother definitely would not want them to work too hard. Even if they didn’t exert physical effort, having concerns could also stress the mind.

In the end, life was a bit miserable. She really wanted to find a way to distance herself from the old mansion and avoid the troublemaker.

Bai Ruozhu cooed the child to sleep, then, tired herself, fell asleep immediately. She had been exhausted in these past days, and the busy farming season was not yet over.

The next morning, Bai Zepei went to Linjiang Village and Bai Yihong took Bai Zehao to the fields. After repeatedly reminding her mother to rest, Bai Ruozhu took Dengdeng to the town. She didn’t want to bring the child along, but if Dengdeng cried at home, her mother would worry about Dengdeng again.

She took her child straight to the restaurant in town and ordered some signature dishes and dim sum, then bought some threads and delivered them straight to Du Family’s Pharmacy. As of today, Zhou Gui and Zhou Fu didn’t need to go to work, but they insisted not to take her wages. She could only repay their help in this way.

The shopkeeper Zhou saw the items and laughed, ”Lady Bai is too polite. The young master will scold us when he returns.”

Bai Ruozhu instructed the restaurant server to bring the food to the backyard, she also left the threads in the backyard, then she said to the shopkeeper Zhou: ”Master Du isn’t that unsympathetic, don’t be so formal with me.”

Zhou Gui and Zhou Fu were quickly called over. They incessantly thanked Bai Ruozhu which made her quite embarrassed. In the end, she packed some medicine and bid farewell. The shopkeeper Zhou wanted her to stay a little while longer, but when he heard her mother was sick, he didn’t dare to delay her time any longer.

Bai Ruozhu left Du Family’s Pharmacy and went straight to Fushou Hall. She went not to find a doctor, but to buy something she had wanted to buy for a long time, and while she was there, she looked for Hao Baishuang to give her thanks as well.
