Checking in for 100,000 Years

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Golden Winged Roc, Stealing Immortal Herbs

”Why is this damn thing targeting me again?”

Big Black Cat watched the golden humanoid creature, holding a gleaming golden longsword, rush towards him and couldn’t help but curse.

His pupils contracted slightly. At this moment, Big Black Cat activated the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye again. However, the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye was not as effective this time. The golden humanoid creature paused momentarily in midair, then charged again. Wielding its sharp golden sword, it fiercely slashed down.

As the golden humanoid creature moved through the fog, the Ghost Lice and the golden, thread-like tentacles of the Giant Demon Yam Flower that had been attacking Big Black Cat simultaneously recoiled.

”Holy crap!” Big Black Cat exclaimed. This guy can actually scare off other strange creatures? he marveled inwardly.

At this moment, he couldn’t dodge the creature’s attack and could only desperately pour his mana into the Black Shield.

BUZZ!

The Black Shield emitted a streak of black light, attacking the golden humanoid creature first.

A golden sword light flashed.

BOOM!

The black light was instantly shattered into fragments.

The golden humanoid creature, its facial features indistinct, held a golden longsword like a golden Demon King as it struck again.

Little Cat, standing beside him, was so scared she bit her lip, hardly daring to breathe. Her large eyes stared blankly as the golden humanoid creature slashed down; she didn’t know if the Nine-tailed Spirit Cat could withstand it.

WHOOSH!

The Black Shield suddenly swelled to three zhang in size, completely protecting Big Black Cat and Little Cat.

BOOM!

The golden sword struck the Black Shield, creating a thunderous crash.

Big Black Cat and Little Cat were sent flying backward through the air by this powerful force.

Although Little Cat was flustered, she didn’t forget to continuously use the Heavenly Spirit Mirror to drive away the scattered Ghost Lice flying towards them.

The impact left Big Black Cat’s internal organs feeling like they were boiling, his blood churned, and an indescribable weakness washed over him. Conversely, the golden humanoid creature was also knocked back and vanished into the fog.

Ignoring his own condition, Big Black Cat quickly looked at the Black Shield in his hand. The Black Shield had returned to its normal size, and a thin sword mark had appeared on its surface.

Big Black Cat was immediately heartbroken. This was a treasure Uncle Ma had given him! He hadn’t expected it to be damaged, even slightly, in the Nine Soul Underground Palace.

”The Ghost Lice are coming!” Little Cat’s voice rang in his ears.

Big Black Cat knew he couldn’t afford to be distracted. He quickly activated the Teleportation Boots and vanished. He continued to rush towards the Nine-leaf Longevity Immortal Grass. Having already clashed with the golden humanoid creature twice in the fog, Big Black Cat was resolved. He wouldn’t rest until he obtained the Eternal Life Immortal Grass.

「Deep within the fog.」

Aided by the Heavenly Spirit Mirror, Big Black Cat saw the Dragon Lord and over a dozen major demons of the Tenth Layer of the Divine Bridge Realm engaged in a massive brawl. The battle was extremely fierce, shaking the heavens and earth, sending sand and stones flying. All around them, Ghost Lice prowled, attacking at any opportunity. Although these major demons weren’t afraid of the Ghost Lice, they couldn’t allow the creatures to touch them carelessly.

Big Black Cat seized an opportunity and stubbornly pushed his way past these major demons. A streak of black light flashed past at incredible speed.

The battling major demons realized someone had gotten ahead of them. They immediately stopped fighting and directed all their attacks towards Big Black Cat.

”Damn it, they’re after Old Cat’s hide!”

Big Black Cat hurriedly placed the Black Shield behind him, frantically pouring mana into it. The shield expanded wildly, blocking everything behind him.

RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

A series of violent booms erupted. With over a dozen major demons attacking simultaneously, the Black Shield was battered about in the fog, and the immense force made Big Black Cat spit out a mouthful of blood.

He and Little Cat plummeted rapidly towards the Eternal Life Immortal Grass.

Little Cat was in a disastrous condition as well. Just moments before, she had also launched an attack with the Heavenly Spirit Mirror to help Big Black Cat relieve some of the pressure. She too suffered a powerful backlash, violently coughing up blood. Her internal organs felt like they were boiling, and she was gravely injured.

The two of them fell like shooting stars towards the Eternal Life Immortal Grass.

Near the Eternal Life Immortal Grass, countless Ghost Lice watched covetously. Four Giant Demon Yam Flowers surrounded the Eternal Life Immortal Grass. Seeing the two rapidly approaching, they unhesitatingly sprayed black, corrosive liquid from their buds. The black liquid blotted out the sky, like four overlapping nets closing in from all directions.

We’re done for! Big Black Cat roared inwardly, but he was helpless. He had no choice but to hold the Black Shield in front of him. There was no time to feel sorry for the shield now; he could only rely on it to save their lives. He poured his mana into the Black Shield again. The Black Shield instantly grew in size, shielding the two of them behind it.

「Above them.」

The dozen or so major demons, including the Dragon Lord, were all chasing them. They absolutely could not tolerate anyone getting ahead of them.

Just as the black liquid was about to land on the Black Shield, a streak of golden light suddenly pierced through the mist. It shot past Big Black Cat and descended directly above the Eternal Life Immortal Grass. From within the golden light, a golden claw shot out, grabbing for the Eternal Life Immortal Grass.

With everyone’s attention on Big Black Cat, who was busy dodging the black corrosive liquid sprayed by the Giant Demon Yam Flowers, no one anticipated the golden light would dart in at such an incredible speed. The golden claw seized the Eternal Life Immortal Grass and immediately soared into the sky.

PLOP! PLOP!

The black liquid splashed onto the shield, producing clouds of white smoke.

”Someone has stolen the Eternal Life Immortal Grass! It’s the Golden Winged Roc!” Little Cat cried out shrilly.

Someone stole the Eternal Life Immortal Grass? Big Black Cat was seething with rage. He had fought tooth and nail, dodging countless attacks, just to get this close to the Eternal Life Immortal Grass. He never imagined that while the snipe and clam fought, a third party—the fisherman—would snatch the prize!

He swiftly put away his Black Shield, mustered all his strength, and activated the Teleportation Boots. Transforming into a streak of black light, he chased after the golden light that was the Golden Winged Roc.

The Golden Winged Roc that stole the Eternal Life Immortal Grass was also a Destiny Realm demon. After entering the Nine Soul Underground Palace, its cultivation had been suppressed to the Tenth Layer of the Divine Bridge Realm. Thus, when it unleashed its Innate Divine Ability of flight, few from the Demon Clan could match its speed.

But Big Black Cat possessed the Emperor Artifact Walking Boots. After frantically pouring mana into them, Big Black Cat firmly locked onto the Golden Winged Roc.

A streak of black light chased a streak of golden light, an intense pursuit unfolding high above the Black Mountain Range.

Big Black Cat took out another Divine pill and, gritting his teeth, swallowed it. The previous pill’s effects were already wearing thin. He took another. Now, both pills released mana simultaneously, and he channeled all the surging power into the Teleportation Boots.

Little Cat, her face taut, watched the rapidly fleeing Golden Winged Roc ahead and cursed resentfully, ”How shameless! Stealing our Eternal Life Immortal Grass!”

Big Black Cat remained silent, his expression grim, as he desperately channeled mana into the Teleportation Boots. He was somewhat regretful now. If he had refined the Teleportation Boots a bit more, he probably would have caught this Golden Winged Roc by now. But for now, all he could do was hang on tight... Now, it was a test of endurance.

PTOO!

At that moment, Big Black Cat suddenly spat out a large mouthful of blood. The previous combined attack from those dozen or so major demons had severely injured him.

As if by contagion, Little Cat also spat out a mouthful of blood.

Big Black Cat looked at Little Cat, a hint of apology in his eyes. At the critical moment, Little Cat had also helped to block some attacks. And now, like him, she was severely injured. They were truly ill-fated companions.

I’m several hundred zhang away from the Golden Winged Roc now. Can I use the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye to slightly affect its speed? Big Black Cat silently calculated. This distance was a bit too far. He had never used the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye from such a considerable distance before; he didn’t know if his half-baked Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye would work this time.

Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, Old Master, please bless me! The Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye must work this time! Big Black Cat chanted inwardly, abruptly drawing a portion of his mana and injecting it into his pupils, unleashing the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye.

「In his mind.」

Hearing Big Black Cat’s heartfelt plea, Ye Yun revealed a faint smile. His eyes moved slightly.

The Purple Rune in Big Black Cat’s pupils reappeared, and a mysterious power surged from his eyes. It instantly struck the fleeing Golden Winged Roc.

The Golden Winged Roc was instantly frozen in midair, its golden pupils becoming dull and lifeless.

”Haha... It worked!” Big Black Cat roared with laughter. The distance of several hundred zhang closed in an instant, and he reached the Golden Winged Roc’s side. He snatched the Nine-leaf Longevity Immortal Grass from the Golden Winged Roc’s talons.

”Damn you!” Big Black Cat was furious when he saw the Golden Winged Roc. He was about to take out his Black Shield to smash it but suddenly paused in midair.

This blow probably wouldn’t kill this fellow. But it would definitely snap it out of the Illusion Technique instantly. Big Black Cat shook his head. He couldn’t do that. The best approach was to stealthily retrieve the Eternal Life Immortal Grass from the Golden Winged Roc, ensuring it couldn’t identify him as the culprit.

With this thought, Big Black Cat put away his Black Shield and darted off in another direction.

The Golden Winged Roc remained suspended and dazed in midair for several seconds before it regained its senses.

What just happened? The Golden Winged Roc shook its head. Suddenly, it felt something strange about its talons. Looking down, it found that the Eternal Life Immortal Grass it had been clutching was gone.

”AHH! AHH! Who stole my Eternal Life Immortal Grass?!” The Golden Winged Roc roared at the heavens in fury, wishing he could tear a hole in the sky. He had gone through so much trouble to seize such a perfect opportunity, snatching the Eternal Life Immortal Grass from that perilous melee. Yet, he never anticipated that moments ago, he’d been struck by some unknown Divine Skill that left him completely dazed. By the time he came to his senses, the Eternal Life Immortal Grass had vanished without a trace.
