Chapter 107: Chapter 107 The Competition Begins

After seven days of cultivation, even with the help of the Tongxuan Pill, Feng Wuchen had not broken through to the First Level of the Yuandan Realm, which showed it was not easy.

With Feng Wuchen’s current strength at the ninth level of the Transformative Realm, he had little confidence if he were to face the top talent of the Empire.

“Big Brother Feng, I heard that the academies of the great empires have created a Talent List. Only two people from our Tianyan Academy are on the list, but they no longer have a chance to compete for the top spot this year since they’re graduating,” Liu Qingyang said.

“Talent List?” Feng Wuchen was slightly taken aback; he had not heard of it.

Seeing Feng Wuchen’s expression, Miao Qingqing said mockingly, “It seems Big Brother Feng doesn’t know about the Talent List, even though you’re a student of the academy.”

“What kind of student is he? He’s at most half a student!” Liu Qingyang shrugged and laughed.

...

“…” Feng Wuchen was at a loss for words.

“Big Brother Feng, the Talent List is updated every three years, and this year it’s time for a new ranking. There are only ten spots, and the academies from the four great empires will select their strongest students to participate in martial arts competitions. Those over eighteen can’t participate,” Miao Qingqing explained simply.

“I see,” Feng Wuchen nodded.

“Our empire has never had someone rank first on the Talent List, and our academy has always been the last in the ranking,” Liu Qingyang said with a grimace.

“Who was the last number one on the Talent List?” Feng Wuchen asked curiously, as the one to seize first place must be incredibly powerful.

“Nie Yang from Shuiyun Academy of Shuiyue Empire, who won the top spot on the Talent List with the cultivation of the Fifth Level of Yuandan Realm,” Liu Qingyang answered.

“Fifth Level of the Yuandan Realm?” Feng Wuchen was amazed. Reaching the Fifth Level of the Yuandan Realm before the age of eighteen truly showed that Nie Yang was an exceptional talent.

“Indeed, it’s quite impressive to reach the Fifth Level of the Yuandan Realm before the age of eighteen,” Ling Xiaoxiao nodded and smiled without denial.

“What are the benefits of competing for the Talent List?” Feng Wuchen inquired.

“The top ten talents on the Talent List all have the opportunity to be promoted and awarded with high-grade Profound martial techniques, gold coins, and many other rewards. But that’s not the most important thing,” Liu Qingyang said, growing more excited as he spoke.

“What’s the most important thing?” Ling Xiaoxiao asked curiously.

Liu Qingyang smiled mysteriously and said, “The most important thing is that you can cultivate in Divine Valley for half a month!”

“Divine Valley? What place is that?” Ling Xiaoxiao grew more curious, and Feng Wuchen was also curious, looking at Liu Qingyang.

Liu Qingyang shook his head, “I’m not very clear about it; I’ve heard it’s a magical place deep in the mountain range at the center of the four great empires. The Spiritual Energy there is incredibly rich, with many heavenly treasures, but it’s also very dangerous. These are things Leng Mucheng bragged about in front of me before, so I don’t know how true they are.”

Feng Wuchen nodded and said, “If Leng Mucheng said it, then it must be true.”

As they chatted, they arrived at Tianyan Academy without realizing it.

This was Feng Wuchen’s second visit, and as a student of the academy, he had not really stayed a full day at the academy the entire year.

That’s just how imposing a nominal student can be.

At this moment, all the students of the academy had already gathered around the square in Nuoda, a massive crowd of tens of thousands, swarming densely together.

“Wow! Is this Tianyan Academy? So imposing!” Seeing the grand and numerous Qi Po Palaces of the academy, Liu Qingyang was in awe.

Miao Qingqing was also shocked, having never seen such imposing palaces in her life!

The arrival of the four, Feng Wuchen, drew the gaze of all the students.

“That guy has finally come back; we’ve been waiting for him for half an hour. No idea what his cultivation level is now since he’s concealed his aura.”

“The two girls with Feng Wuchen are so pretty. This guy brings back a girl each time he comes! Next time he won’t bring back three, will he?”

“The lady with Feng Wuchen has actually broken through to the First Level of the Yuandan Realm. Such terrifying talent, and she’s even prettier than a year ago!”

The arrival of Feng Wuchen and his companions caused a stir among the gathered crowd, with many male students thrilled beyond measure, attracted by Ling Xiaoxiao’s beauty and envious of Feng Wuchen’s good fortune.

The more powerful students were particularly interested in Feng Wuchen’s cultivation level, constantly scrutinizing him, but they couldn’t discern the depth of his cultivation.

Even the instructors were looking forward to it.

“To completely hide his aura! He must be strong,” one of the stronger students murmured, not daring to underestimate Feng Wuchen.

“Perhaps he has already stepped into the Yuandan Realm.”

“Possibly, it’s said his cultivation speed is astonishingly fast.”

Many of the older students started to whisper among themselves.

“Dean, three elders,” Feng Wuchen greeted politely, with Ling Xiaoxiao and the others following suit in offering their greetings.

Although Feng Wuchen was the Grand Commander of the Empire, he was still a student of the academy, and he never liked to flaunt his authority.

Feng Wuchen’s timely return pleased Dean Xing Tianfeng and Zhenyuntian, who had also breathed a sigh of relief. They had been worried he wouldn’t come back.

Xing Tianfeng smiled and nodded, then said, “Everyone, prepare well.”

“Brother Feng!” Lin You rushed up, overwhelmed with excitement.

“Lin You! Fifth Level of the Transformative Realm! That’s impressive, you’ve broken through several levels in just one year, you certainly haven’t let your old man down,” Feng Wuchen said with a joyous laugh. He hadn’t seen Lin You in a year, and Lin You’s significant progress in cultivation came as a pleasant surprise to Feng Wuchen.

With a happy smile, Lin You said, “No matter how formidable I am, I can’t compare to Brother Feng. After a year, Brother Feng has changed so much, and your cultivation must have become even more powerful. And Miss Ling, reaching the First Level of the Yuandan Realm already!”

The more Lin You spoke, the more excited he became, unable to contain his exuberance.

“My name is Liu Qingyang, a friend of Brother Feng; I’ve often heard him mention you,” Liu Qingyang introduced himself.

Miao Qingqing followed up, saying, “My name is Miao Qingqing.”

“I’m Lin You! Very pleased to meet you,” Lin You said with a delighted smile, a radiant grin on his youthful face that he couldn’t hide.

Feng Wuchen and his companions made their way to the square when suddenly someone swaggered over and stopped them.

For someone to have the audacity to block Feng Wuchen in front of deans and elders, it was clear that this person was of no trivial status, and his strength was not weak either.

“Brother Feng, this is the Empire’s little prince, Duan Henxi, this guy is so naughty, always leading us into trouble, even sneaking out of the academy several times, even daring to steal the Grand Elder’s Elixir. He’s the academy’s troublemaker! We call him ‘Wild Monkey,’” Lin You explained with a chuckle. The fact that Lin You dared to joke like this showed that he usually had a good relationship with the prince.

It seemed that Duan Henxi was sent to the academy by the emperor because he was too troublesome.

Duan Henxi squinted his eyes and glared at Lin You. As soon as Lin You spoke, he revealed Duan Henxi’s secrets, and Duan Henxi wished he could beat Lin You up.

“Who would have thought there would be someone even more troublemaking than myself,” Liu Qingyang exclaimed in astonishment, looking at Duan Henxi.

Feng Wuchen, surprised to see the handsome Duan Henxi, smiled and said, “So you are the prince of the Empire, what an honor to meet you.”

Feng Wuchen had never met Duan Henxi before, so he was unaware that he was the Empire’s little prince.

“Feng Wuchen, don’t go easy on me during our spar later, and I won’t go easy on you either. Otherwise, I’ll reveal your identity as the Grand Commander,” Duan Henxi warned with a dangerous look.

“I, too, would like to see the strength of the Empire’s number one genius,” Feng Wuchen said with a smile.

“Good! I’ll definitely flatten you!” Duan Henxi slung an arm around Feng Wuchen’s shoulder and whispered a threat, “Afterward, you’ll craft a Spiritual Artifact spear for me, or else I’ll expose your identity as the Grand Commander.”

“No problem, but you’ve got to provide the meteoric iron yourself, I don’t have any,” Feng Wuchen said with a shrug and a laugh.

“It’s a deal!” Duan Henxi was immediately overjoyed.

“…” Liu Qingyang and Lin You had already filled their faces with speechless expressions, realizing how effective that threat was.

As Feng Wuchen and his friends entered the crowd of students, everyone made way for them without any disdain; instead, they were more curious about Feng Wuchen.

The students chattered nonstop, asking one question after another, and as the conversation went on, they all became familiar with each other.

Despite being a prince of the Empire, Duan Henxi had no airs about him and was no different from the ordinary students, getting along very well with them.

“In one month’s time, it will be the once-every-three-years Genius List event. There are only five spots, and this competitive match will select five people to participate in the Genius List Battles!” the Grand Elder, Zhenyuntian, said solemnly.

This competition was different from the past; it was not just for the newcomers, but older students also participated.

As a result, there were fewer participants—most were older students, with just twelve newcomers and eighteen seniors, totaling thirty people.

Among these thirty, only five would represent the academy in the fierce battles of the Genius List!

Those five would merely be participating, and whether they could make it into the Genius List was still unknown.

“As long as you make it into the Genius List, you’ll have a chance to cultivate in Divine Valley, the possibility of advancement in rank, and many rewards. This is a rare opportunity that comes once in a millennium. I hope you will perform well and believe that this time you will bring glory to our academy!” Xing Tianfeng added.

The genius students from other academies were also very strong; otherwise, Tianyan Academy wouldn’t always be at the bottom every time.

After pausing, Xing Tianfeng loudly declared, “The competition begins now.”

The competition was an elimination match; those who lost were mercilessly eliminated.

Out of thirty students, only fifteen needed to draw lots; whoever you drew was your opponent!

Students were curious to see who would be matched with whom. Their faces were filled with anticipation and excitement, especially towards Feng Wuchen. They all wanted to know the capabilities of this nominal student.

“Zhou Tianhai! Too bad it’s not Feng Wuchen—how boring. The opponent is just someone from the Eighthfold of the Transformative Realm,” Duan Henxi said with disappointment, then turned to Feng Wuchen and asked, “Feng Wuchen, who’s your opponent?”

“It looks like my luck isn’t too bad. I drew number one, Zhang Qing!” Feng Wuchen casually said, holding up the name of his opponent.

Duan Henxi shook his head and said, “You’ve got a tough one! That guy is strong! And he’s fiendishly ruthless!”

“Zhang Qing! Feng Wuchen has been matched with Zhang Qing!”

“The very first match, too! We’ll get to see that kid’s true strength!”

“I wonder if Feng Wuchen will even get a chance to make a move! Zhang Qing is terrifyingly powerful.”

As Feng Wuchen’s name appeared on the competition list, the students buzzed with noise, growing even more expectant and excited!
