She Came to Heal, Stayed to Conquer

Zhao Zun turned and strode out of the study, heading swiftly toward the courtyard where Han Lei resided.

Butler Mr. Liu was also startled and quickly sent someone to fetch the best doctor in the city.

In the night, Zhao Zun’s figure moved like a gust of wind, weaving under the eaves of the Prince Mansion.

His heart was filled with anxiety and unease.

He had clearly already cleaned out the servants in the mansion. Although the disloyal ones had only been given a beating and hadn’t been sold yet, he had explicitly forbidden them from serving the old madam and Han Lei. How could Han Lei suffer such harm?

Hearing Zhao Zun’s footsteps approaching, the drowsy Han Lei barely opened her eyes. Seeing Zhao Zun, she managed a faint smile.

”Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

The two special detox capsules she had just swallowed must have started working, as the pain in her abdomen had eased considerably.

Luckily it was discovered early and she took the medicine in time. Otherwise, she couldn’t imagine what would have happened to her.

Zhao Zun’s heart ached; he knew Han Lei was forcing herself to act strong.

”Has the doctor arrived?” he turned to ask Zitan beside him.

”Your Highness, the maid has urged them, the doctor should be here soon.”

Zitan replied timidly, her heart pounding fiercely.

She and Jin Ju had just been transferred to serve Miss Han, and in just a few days, such a thing had happened.

Considering the Prince’s care for Miss Han, if anything were to happen to her, she and Jin Ju’s lives would be in peril.

Zhao Zun nodded and sat at the bedside, his gentle gaze falling on Han Lei once again.

”Don’t worry, girl, I will definitely find the person responsible for poisoning you and show no mercy!”

Han Lei weakly shook her head, a complex emotion flickered in her eyes.

”No need to bother. I can already guess who did it.”

Zhao Zun raised his eyebrows: ”Who?”

”Who else but them, mother and daughter?”

So rash!

Han Lei felt a bit ironic. She, a modern-day genius military doctor, who had seen countless storms, had tripped up in a dark alley.

”In the mansion, I’ve only had conflicts with Ms Qin. Although the disloyal servants can’t come near our food, don’t forget, Zhao Qiao’er brought two of her maids back today; maybe Mr. Liu overlooked them.”

Zhao Zun dangerously squinted his eyes.

”Despicable. Haven’t seen her for years, didn’t expect Qiao’er has become just like Ms Qin now.”

Initially, the old madam didn’t want to pursue Ms Qin and her daughter further, out of respect for his father, Zhao Zun had planned to let them off the hook.

Unexpectedly, this sinister and venomous pair intensified their plot and actually dared to harm Han Lei.

It seems unless they are properly taught a lesson, they won’t learn from their mistakes.

”Ping Chuan!”

Zhao Zun shouted, and Ping Chuan entered upon hearing his name.

Zhao Zun ordered in a deep voice: ”Quietly go to Ms Qin’s courtyard, thoroughly investigate the source of the poison! Also, check what they are up to.”

”Yes!”

Ping Chuan took the order and quickly disappeared into the night.

Zhao Zun turned his anxious gaze back to Han Lei: ”Girl, how are you feeling now? Hold on, the doctor is almost here.”

Han Lei’s darkened lips showed signs of recovery, the pain in her abdomen had reduced to a bearable level.

”I’m really fine, don’t worry.”

At that moment, urgent footsteps echoed outside the door. The doctor was hurriedly brought in by Jin Ju, Zhao Zun immediately stood to make room for the doctor to examine Han Lei.

The doctor carefully checked Han Lei’s pulse and symptoms, then frowned and pondered for a moment.

”Your Highness, this young lady’s pulse indicates poisoning, and this toxin...I’m afraid I’m powerless to cure it.”

”What?”

Zhao Zun’s heart sank, his face darkened as he called Zitan.

”Quick! Get more doctors back here.”

”No need,” Han Lei weakly held Zhao Zun’s wrist, propped herself up and said to the old doctor: ”Thank you, doctor, you can go back now.”

”Ah! Too late.”

The old doctor glanced at Han Lei’s darkened lips, sighed, bowed, and said: ”Miss, forgive my incompetence, I bid you farewell.”

Han Lei raised her eyebrows.

What do you mean too late?

You can’t solve it, but that doesn’t mean I can’t either!

Once the doctor exits, Han Lei flipped her fair hand, revealing two special detox capsules she had purchased from the system.

She had tried one earlier and felt much better; taking these two should completely detoxify her.

”Did you forget that I’m a doctor myself?” Han Lei, pale-faced, continued: ”The doctor only needs to confirm the poisoning. I can handle everything else myself.”

”Mm, I believe you!” Zhao Zun, hearing this, felt slightly at ease.

He had always had a mysterious confidence in Han Lei’s words.

Zhao Zun supported Han Lei’s back, letting her lean against him, then instructed Zitan to bring a cup of warm water and watched Han Lei take the medicine.

He stayed by Han Lei’s side, looking at her pale face, feeling very guilty.

The night was dark, the lanterns in the Prince Mansion swayed in the breeze, casting mottled shadows.

The doctor walked out of Han Lei’s courtyard with a heavy expression, carrying his medicine box. As he turned the corridor, he encountered the anxious old madam and Zhao Ling’er.

”Doctor, how is my sister-in-law?”

Zhao Ling’er’s voice trembled slightly as she hurriedly inquired upon seeing the doctor.

The doctor sighed, shook his head helplessly, ”The poison is incurable! Old madam, Miss Zhao, better prepare the final arrangements promptly! My condolences.”

”Ah?”

”Mother, are you alright?”

Hearing this, the old madam staggered, nearly collapsing, Zhao Ling’er started crying, her tears flowing like rain, her cries echoed through the silent Prince Mansion, alarming all the servants.

For a moment, the mansion was ablaze with light, hearts were restless, chaos ensued.

The doctor’s words were like a bolt of thunder in the sky over the Prince Mansion.

Coincidentally, the words were heard clearly by the maid sent by Zhao Qiao’er lurking in the shadows.

Liu’er was delighted, quickly turned around, stumbled and ran back, fearing delay in delivering the important news.

”Miss, Miss!”

Liu’er pushed open Zhao Qiao’er’s room door, even though she was panting heavily, her face couldn’t hide her excitement.

”The doctor says the poison in that woman is incurable, they should prepare the final arrangements! Right now, the old madam and Zhao Ling’er are rushing over.”

Zhao Qiao’er and Ms Qin hadn’t rested, they were sitting at the table drinking tea, waiting for news.

Upon hearing the maid’s report, Zhao Qiao’er paused, and gleefully asked, ”Oh? You’re sure you’ve got it right?”

”Yes, Miss, I’m certain.”

Liu’er nodded vigorously, her face showing a triumphant expression.

Ms Qin was also delighted by the news, ”Great, now we can finally breathe easy.”

Ms Qin stood up and walked to the window, looking at the bright moon in the night sky, the sinister light in her eyes glinted eerily under its glow.

”Hmph! The future Princess Consort, huh? I, Qin Yanran, will let you know, this Prince Mansion is not a place where you can act with impunity!”

”Mother, I specifically chose a slow-acting poison, even though it kicks in later, but within five hours it’ll make her suffer to death. It started in the middle of the night, and by then we were already back, suspicions won’t fall on us. I want to watch her tortured until death to quell my hatred!”

Zhao Qiao’er snarled. Though she’s married off, she wouldn’t allow anyone to bully her mother.
