Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

The flower stems separated and fell onto the table.

Zhang Zhiyi said, ”Destroy it, and that’s enough.”

Even though Xiahou Shang didn’t understand what Zhang Zhiyi was metaphorically implying with these lilies, a strong sense of unease arose in his heart. ”Zhiyi, what are you hiding from me?”

”Brother Shang.” Zhang Zhiyi plainly told him, ”The world is this vase, and people like you are these few flawed lilies. Only perfect lilies have the right to enjoy the world’s resources, while the flawed lilies have no right to compete with these perfect lilies for resources.”

She gave a strange smile and said profoundly, ”Trash should be completely eradicated!”

Xiahou Shang vaguely understood the meaning behind Zhang Zhiyi’s words.

”In your eyes, we’re all trash, unworthy to live in this world. Our existence is a waste of resources.” Clenching his fists, Xiahou Shang asked her, ”Then what about you?”

”You won’t understand in a few words. Brother Shang, are you interested in hearing a story?”

Xiahou Shang frowned, but he didn’t leave the table.

Zhang Zhiyi, with her hands supporting her chin, lazily rested them on the table. She appeared like a love-struck young girl, affectionately watching the boy she loved.

She narrated gently, ”More than two thousand years ago, this world already possessed advanced technology and modern civilization. But, an interstellar meteorite landed on our planet. That meteorite continuously emitted a murky gas, and from the pollution, some people died immediately, while others survived the gas’s erosion and evolved superpowers.”

”For over twenty years, that poisonous meteorite continuously released its toxic gas, showing no sign of stopping. To protect the entire race, various forces sorted people into two groups. Those who successfully evolved superpowers moved to unaffected areas, while those corroded by the gas and gravely ill were left at the meteorite’s landing site.”

”Later, to prevent the spread of the gas, the superpower users together built a segregation wall at the division line between the two worlds. And that wall...” Zhang Zhiyi glanced at the floor-to-ceiling window behind Xiahou Shang. The curtains were open, revealing a glimpse of the night sky above the city through the clean glass.

She said, ”The sky that you see is that segregation wall. And the meteorite that landed on this planet has, over the past two thousand years, merged with it. Its landing site is the Kunze Mountain Range.”

Xiahou Shang’s pupils trembled. He forced a smile and said to Zhang Zhiyi, ”Are you telling me a fantasy story you read?”

”Consider it so.” Zhang Zhiyi observed Xiahou Shang’s horrified reaction without any joy or sadness. No ordinary Mortal World person would remain unafraid upon hearing this truth, and Xiahou Shang was no exception.

”The superpowers initially believed that the ordinary people trapped in the gas world had long perished. But years later, when they secretly opened the segregation wall and infiltrated the gas world to investigate, they discovered that the descendants of the Infected not only survived but also established a new civilization.”

”Thus, the once unified world split into two factions. The world where superpower users lived is called the Divine Martial Realm. The world the descendants of the Infected inhabit is called the Mortal World.”

”After two thousand years of reproduction and growth, the population of the Mortal World increased, and the number of humans in the Divine Martial Realm also reached a saturated state.” Zhang Zhiyi gently touched the blooming lilies in the vase and said, ”When there are too many lilies, they want to find a new vase to settle in. So, what do we do?”

What to do?

Then there’s no choice but to eradicate the descendants of the Infected and reclaim the territories that once belonged to them!
