Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

Huo Wen’an carefully examined the plans and realized that Xu Xingguang intended to use the wood to build a leisure pavilion and corridor.

Xu Xingguang’s design drawings were hand-drawn, with straight and neat lines comparable to computer graphics. Her handwriting was excellent, a testament to her outstanding practice.

Only later did Huo Wen’an realize that he seemed to have found a treasure.

After dinner, Xu Xingguang was about to go upstairs to see Xu Qingnian when Huo Wen’an suddenly said, ”We’ve known each other for so long, but I haven’t met Grandpa Xu yet. Let me go with you to see him.”

Now that they were a couple, it was only right for Huo Wen’an to go see Xu Qingnian.

”The room has a bit of a smell, but if you can tolerate it, come with me.” After speaking, Xu Xingguang went upstairs first.

Huo Wen’an tidied his clothes in the reflection of the French cabinet’s glass before heading up.

It was Huo Wen’an’s first time on the second floor, and he didn’t look around. He obediently followed Xu Xingguang into Xu Qingnian’s room.

Xu Xingguang was going to check on Xu Qingnian’s bedsores.

Sister Linlin, with her strength, lifted Xu Qingnian and turned him over, letting him lie on his stomach on the bed for Xu Xingguang to examine.

Xu Xingguang put on sterile gloves, pulled back the fabric on Xu Qingnian’s hips, and applied ointment, carefully observing the healing of the bedsore.

She said, ”It’s healing well, with new flesh growing. It should be fully recovered by next month.”

Applying a new layer of ointment, Xu Xingguang then removed her gloves and leaned in to whisper in Xu Qingnian’s ear: ”Grandpa, in a little while, your bedsores will be healed. Then we’ll try acupuncture treatments and see if you can walk again.”

Upon hearing that his bedsores were almost healed, Xu Qingnian felt relieved.

He could clearly feel his wounds itching occasionally, but there was no longer that unpleasant smell in the air.

Clearly, his bedsores were healing.

”Who is that?” Xu Qingnian, his head resting on the pillow, spotted Huo Wen’an standing at the door.

”Him? He’s my boyfriend, Huo Zui.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Wen’an quickly walked over to Xu Xingguang’s side and respectfully greeted, ”Hello, Grandpa Xu, I am Huo Zui.”

Realizing that this young man was Xingguang’s boyfriend, the image-conscious Xu Qingnian immediately exclaimed, ”Quick, cover me with the blanket!”

He didn’t want Huo Wen’an to see his bare behind.

Sister Linlin quickly pulled up the blanket to cover Xu Qingnian’s back, allowing Xu Qingnian to relax a bit.

Xu Qingnian told Huo Wen’an, ”Young man, you step out first. We’ll have a good chat downstairs in a bit.”

”Okay.”

Huo Wen’an obediently left the room, and Xu Qingnian then instructed Xu Xingguang and Linlin to help him get dressed, while also scolding Xu Xingguang for her inconsiderateness.

”You silly girl, bringing your boyfriend to see me without giving me a heads-up. At least let me change into something decent and shave.”

”He might have even seen my bottom just now. How embarrassing!”

Having been a school principal, Xu Qingnian was particularly concerned with his image and would never allow himself to speak to a future grandson-in-law while lying in bed.

Xu Xingguang stifled a laugh and said, ”Then I will dress you in a suit and tie.”

Xu Qingnian liked the idea and told Xu Xingguang, ”The iron-gray Chinese-style suit in the left cabinet looks good to me.”

He liked that suit the most, finding it scholarly and cultured.

”Alright, alright.”

With the joint efforts of Xu Xingguang and Sister Linlin, Xu Qingnian was quickly dressed and had his beard shaved and face washed.

Sister Linlin, with her strength, lifted the old man from the bed to his wheelchair with one swoop.

Xu Xingguang placed a soft blanket over his legs and then pushed him to the elevator downstairs.

Huo Wen’an was sitting alone in the living room. When he saw Xu Qingnian arriving, he immediately stood up and greeted him again, ”Grandpa Xu.”

Under the living room lights, Xu Qingnian finally took a good look at Huo Wen’an.

Upon looking, he furrowed his brows and tactfully said, ”Young man, you’re quite tall and handsome, but you seem a bit... too delicate.”

He initially wanted to say ”frail,” but thought it might hurt the young man’s self-esteem and restrained himself.

Huo Wen’an replied honestly, ”I’ve not been in great health these past few years, constantly on medication, which has made me lose a lot of weight.”

Xu Qingnian suddenly realized, ”Oh, you’ve been ill.” He continued to inquire, ”What illness? Is it serious?”

As a grandfather, Xu Qingnian naturally hoped that Xu Xingguang would find a young man who was healthy.

Xu Xingguang chimed in to help, saying, ”His stomach hasn’t been well, and he had surgery recently. We are currently focusing on recuperation. Once health is fully restored, his vitality will naturally improve.”
