Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

Yujiang Normal University is a prestigious Double First-Class institution, yet the Early Childhood Education program, despite being in place for many years, remains the least popular in the college.

After all, the students who are able to enter Yujiang Normal University through the college entrance examination are all outstanding achievers. Compared to other programs, the employment prospects for Early Childhood Education are not very promising.

If one can become a middle or high school teacher, who would want to be a kindergarten teacher?

But Xu Xingguang’s ambition is to become an excellent, versatile kindergarten principal. She wants to work hard to earn money and eventually open an orphanage, becoming a mother to orphans everywhere.

She simply likes the feeling of being a mother.

As a child, whenever she played house, she always played the role of the mother.

Today, Xu Xingguang has a very busy schedule with a mandatory course in traditional Chinese painting and crafts in the morning, followed by an elective psychology course in the afternoon.

This morning’s craft class involves making paper cutouts. Xu Xingguang cut out a golden paper crown on a handsome man’s image, and the teacher praised her openly, calling her talented and skillful.

After class, Xu Xingguang tucked the paper cutting into her book, just as she was about to head to the cafeteria for lunch, she received a call from the elevator company.

She has no choice but to skip the afternoon elective class and rush home.

Because Xu Qingnian’s room requires the wall to be chiseled for a door frame, enabling elevator installation. Early in the morning, the renovation company sent over workers to start the construction.

Huo Wen’an, annoyed by the noise, decided to go over to Xu Xingguang’s house to oversee the work.

When Xu Xingguang arrived home, the initial group of construction workers had already left, and Huo Wen’an was directing the elevator company staff to install the elevator.

In the early spring, he was wearing a white shirt with a black knit jacket, his short black hair and handsome pale face smudged with dust, like an angel fallen to the human world, stained with the earthly smoke and fire.

Xu Xingguang walked over, tiptoeing to dust off his head.

Huo Wen’an didn’t move, and after Xu Xingguang withdrew her hand, only then did he ask naturally, ”Did you run all the way back?” He noticed a thin layer of sweat on Xu Xingguang’s forehead.

”Yes, it’s lunch break time, so it’s hard to get a cab.”

Huo Wen’an suggested, ”Why don’t you buy a vehicle?”

Just as Xu Xingguang was about to mention traffic jams, she heard Huo Wen’an say: ”Buy a second-hand electric bike, it’s cheap, small, and convenient.”

Xu Xingguang burst into laughter, nodding, ”I think that works.”

Huo Wen’an told her, ”There’s an old bike shop at the town’s entrance, the owner’s last name is Xie, buying from him won’t lead to being cheated.”

It was the first time Xu Xingguang heard Huo Wen’an mention the town’s residents, she found it somewhat novel, and asked him, ”Are you familiar with the town?”

”I grew up in the town.” Huo Wen’an turned to glance at Xu Xingguang, a complex emotion hidden in his deep black eyes, and then he looked at the busy workers, whispering, ”Although I left for a few years, this is where I grew up, I can’t forget it.”

Because he can’t forget it, is that why he chose to return to Cangshan Town to wait for death?

”I’ll check it out later.”

Xu Xingguang went to make tea, serving tea to the elevator installation crew, and preparing a cup for Huo Wen’an.

Taking the cup, Huo Wen’an noticed that the workers were drinking from ordinary porcelain cups, whereas his was a hand-painted glaze ceramic cup.

This is evidently a cup used by family members.

Huo Wen’an stared at the koi design at the bottom of the tea for a while before finishing the tea.

The workers worked until five in the evening before wrapping up. As they packed up to leave, they heard Xu Xingguang say, ”Everyone, I’ve ordered dinner at the restaurant next door, have dinner before heading back.”

At this time, traffic in Yujiang City is at its worst, by the time they get home, it would be very late. Understanding their hardships working outdoors, Xu Xingguang thoughtfully arranged for dinner.

Three years ago, Xu Xingguang wouldn’t have been this considerate.

The reason she thought of this is because during her ten lifetime soul journey, she experienced much hardship and scorn.

She understands these people’s struggles better than anyone.

Upon hearing dinner was provided, several workers were surprised, then their faces broke into smiles. The older worker said to Xu Xingguang, ”Thank you, Miss Xu, if there’s ever any issue with the elevator, you can directly contact us for maintenance service. You’re kind, we won’t charge the travel fee.”

”Okay.”

Xu Xingguang personally led them to the small restaurant, and when she returned, she saw Huo Wen’an sitting on the pile of raw wood in the yard, staring into space.
