Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1212: Chapter 1184: Farewell Until We Meet Again (Fourth Update)

When Qian’s mom talks about this, she gets all fired up. When the kids in the family are buying a house, she always insists repeatedly on this point: don’t buy a house with a beam.

”Actually, from a psychological perspective, it’s understandable. If there’s a beam in the bedroom, visually it creates an oppressive feeling. When people are in an oppressive environment, they tend to feel depressed and irritable, and it’s natural for couples to argue. But that doesn’t prove the things you believe in are all correct. It’s just something to selectively listen to.”

”I don’t care about that; I’d rather believe it! Anyway, remember what I told you, just keep saying the kids will be a girl, and when the child is born, Minglang will be at home. The first part is a reverse statement, and the latter part is like saying, ’bad luck won’t come, good luck will!’ ”

”Where did you get the idea that I’m going to have a son?” Qian was puzzled. Her mom kept saying she had a daughter in her belly after watching her sister-in-law give birth to a son. How eager is she for her to have a son?

”Why are you so thoughtless? Your mother-in-law has so many grandsons, if you give birth to a daughter, won’t you be outdone by your sisters-in-law?”

Qian’s mom didn’t really care if her daughter gave birth to a son or a daughter. But seeing how everyone in the Yu Family has had sons, she was afraid her daughter would feel inferior.

”You don’t understand. Just because everyone is having sons, if I can give birth to a daughter, the new stimulus will activate different areas of the brain, causing my in-laws’ brain to produce a lot of dopamine and adrenaline.”

”What Ann? What kidneys?” Qian’s mom only knew about An Guoli and ox kidneys; she didn’t understand what Qian said.

”Qian’er means rarity is precious.” Fugui explained.

”That’s not right. Other things may be rare and valuable, but no one thinks there are too many sons. Anyway, Qian’er, remember what your mom tells you, keep mentioning these two things.”

”Who says daughters aren’t as good as sons? I have a patient’s daughter who is extremely filial and no worse than a son.” Qian said she was referring to Mu Xiaofeng.

To let her father leave peacefully in his last journey, she would rather be caught than take her father away.

”Of course I know daughters are good. My daughter is good! But who knows if your in-laws think this way? Anyway, just follow what I said and keep chanting!”

”If I’m going to have a daughter, and when the child is born, no one in the world will be beside me except Yu Minglang, is that okay?”

Qian couldn’t persuade her mom, so she perfunctorily agreed, feeling extremely uncomfortable inside.

She hates the preference for boys over girls, and yet her mom insists on bothering her.

Hearing her daughter’s words, Qian’s mom was satisfied.

At the mall, Qian’s mom was delighted to see the signs that said gold was on discount today—10 yuan cheaper per gram. The old lady, fond of bargains, immediately rushed into the gold counter. The actual purpose of today’s visit was to buy gifts for the children of her sister-in-law. Seeing the discount, Qian’s mom thought of getting gold gifts for Qian’s baby and also Liumei’s child along the way.

Qian didn’t have much interest in these things; she preferred jade over gold, thinking it was too tacky. She already prepared the children’s gifts, but it was Qian’s mom who felt that not sending gold would be incomplete, so she reluctantly went along. After a while, her eyes were sore from the glare of the gold. Qian wanted to go to the bathroom.

The escalator in the mall was the step type; the bathroom was on the second floor. The mall’s event attracted quite a crowd, and the escalator was full of people, so Qian headed that way while her mom stayed at the gold counter. Unexpectedly, they parted for just a few minutes before the accident happened.

The crowded event led to people shoving each other on the escalator. When Qian came out of the bathroom, she got on the elevator going down. Her attention was caught by the display cabinet in the center of the lobby on the first floor. Every quarter, the mall would hold a themed event, with theme products displayed in the cabinets. This month’s event was related to children, and there were many cute little children’s clothes.

The little models wearing the children’s clothes had bulging bellies, looking adorable in their pretty outfits. Qian thought about the baby she would meet in a few months, feeling warm inside.

She wanted to give all the good things to the child, looking forward to welcoming her or him.

While Qian focused on the display cabinet, she wasn’t paying attention to what was ahead. When she felt unsteady on her feet and heard the crowd’s screams, it was already too late when she turned back!

The escalator, crowded with people, had an unknown issue. The crowd suddenly turned chaotic; Qian couldn’t see what happened from her angle but could hear people screaming behind her. When she turned around, she saw people upstairs toppling down. Qian watched as people started screaming, the ones in the front getting trampled—this all happened within a second.

Behind Qian were all panicked people; she couldn’t step back. The escalator unexpectedly reversed direction!

Originally supposed to go down, the escalator suddenly switched to going up, causing many people to become unsteady and fall unexpectedly! At that moment, the escalator was a scene of chaos and distress.

Stampede!!!

The horrifying word flashed in Qian’s mind. In crowded places, stampedes are the most fatal!

Right now, Qian could do nothing. People behind her screamed while pushing her, the powerful impact causing her to lean forward continuously.

When people’s brains stop functioning at such moments, instinct takes over, driving them to run towards safety, but panicked crowds often lead to greater casualties!

Seeing herself about to be pushed down, Qian knew being trampled by panicked people was inevitable; the consequences were unimaginable.

Qian instinctively thought of self-rescue methods for stampedes. She knelt on the escalator steps, holding the railing tightly. This posture protected her abdomen and kept her stable, so when people rolled down, she wouldn’t be knocked over.

But the escalator hadn’t stopped yet; seeing people below crushed by those in front, and no way for her to retreat, stampede at her place seemed unavoidable. This all happened within seconds.

At this critical moment, someone suddenly grabbed her hand. When Qian looked up, her eyes widened.

”You—?!”

The person grabbing her wasn’t Mu Xiaofeng?!

Even though Mu Xiaofeng disguised herself with a big hat, Qian recognized her immediately!

It’s her!

Shouldn’t she be in prison now? How did she escape?!

Between the mall’s escalators was a ramp-shaped metal platform, usually printed with emergency slogans or something. Mu Xiaofeng was standing on this, pulling Qian!

Her strength surpassed most women, and Qian didn’t overthink it. With someone pulling her, she climbed along the railing, losing one of her shoes!

Fortunately, Mu Xiaofeng pulled her out!

”Quick, sit down!” Mu Xiaofeng urged Qian to sit, ”This slope isn’t stable, hurry down!”

Saying that, she pushed from behind, and Qian slid down. In the faint background, she heard Mu Xiaofeng say one last thing.

”Thank you for burying my dad. See you around!”
