Chapter 1298: Chapter 518: Obelisk_3

”For those of us who have worked hard in technical positions for many years, it’s inevitable to feel some... emotional fluctuations when we see certain ’newcomers’ easily receive special treatment.”

His companion, another enchanter, nodded in agreement:

”Yes, we all know Associate Professor Hillas’s enchantment skills are among the best in the colony. But the distribution of contribution points seems to favor those ’innovative’ newcomers.”

This blatant provocation caused the onlooking residents to start whispering.

Clearly, this wasn’t the first time Hillas publicly expressed dissatisfaction.

Just as Ella was about to respond further, Ron gently tapped her shoulder, indicating he would handle it.

”Associate Professor Hillas, right?” Ron’s voice had no trace of anger:

”You’re right, I did start by cleaning sludge. And I must admit, that sludge taught me many things.”

His candid admission left Hillas slightly stunned.

This was not the reaction he had expected.

”For example, I learned how to identify the traits of different emotional residues, how to handle complex spiritual contamination, and how to turn seemingly useless ’garbage’ into valuable research material.”

Ron smiled at Hillas:

”I wonder, your enchantment skills, though traditional, must involve handling emotional energy, right? Would you be willing to exchange some related experiences with me?”

This soft tackling approach rendered Hillas’s attack completely unfocused.

The more sarcastic remarks he had prepared seemed extremely childish in front of Ron.

”I... of course, enchantment does involve processing various forms of energy...”

Hillas stammered slightly, clearly unprepared for such a response.

”That’s great!”

Ron showed keen interest:

”Maybe we could find time for a detailed discussion; my ’harmony theory’ and your traditional enchantment skills might create an interesting collision.”

This enthusiastic attitude made Hillas clear his throat somewhat awkwardly:

”Uh... sure, if there’s time...”

Then he hurriedly left the scene with his companion.

The onlookers began to murmur, but the atmosphere had shifted from tense to admiring.

Ella looked at Ron, somewhat surprised:

”Handled beautifully, more effective than a direct counterattack.”

She was actually preparing to condense her spiritual power to use ”shock burst directionalization” to drive Hillas away.

”Thank you,” Ron said sincerely:

”But I want to understand Hillas’s specific situation; his dissatisfaction seems not just targeted at me personally?”

Ella sighed helplessly:

”Hillas’s family holds significant reputation in the Main World, with enchanting skills passed down for hundreds of years. His skills are indeed solid, but overly... traditional.”

As she continued to lead Ron on a tour, she explained:

”In this colony, we need more than just technical proficiency; we need innovation and adaptability.”

”Hillas has always worked following family traditions, lacking breakthrough thinking. His contribution points have stagnated, while some younger enchanters have gained more recognition through innovation.”

”Moreover, he has always felt he should be the teacher’s core assistant, so he’s filled with hostility towards any ’newcomer.’”

This explanation helped Ron understand the motive behind Hillas’s behavior.

”Is his skill really as outstanding as he claims?” Ron asked curiously.

”In the traditional field, yes,” Ella assessed fairly:

”If you need an enchanted piece of equipment made strictly according to classic standards, Hillas is the best choice. But if you need a breakthrough solution...”

She shook her head: ”He’s hard-pressed to break out of established thought patterns.”

As nightfall approached, Ella brought Ron to the administrative core area of the colony.

”The Contribution Obelisk.”

Ella gazed up at the towering floating crystal before them:

”This is the core of the colony’s operation and the testimony of everyone’s efforts and achievements.”

This obelisk is entirely made of pure blue crystal, forming a perfect four-sided pyramid structure.

It silently floats about fifty meters above the ground, supported only by an internal complex gravity adjustment system.

”This obelisk records the names and contribution points of every official member of the colony.”

Ella pointed to different areas of the obelisk:

”The top area displays management information, the middle is for department heads, and the bottom is for regular staff.”

Ron carefully observed the flowing text.

At the very top of the obelisk, two names were displayed in font size twice the size of the other runes:

[Alister Renard: Contribution Points 47382]

[Ella Renard: Contribution Points 39547]

These numbers left Ron in awe.

What kind of dedication and sacrifice do nearly fifty thousand contribution points represent?

”Your and Mr. Alister’s contribution points... what does this number represent?”

Ella’s expression became complex, filled with both pride and a hint of fatigue:

”Three hundred years of accumulation. Every technological breakthrough, every crisis handled, every successful project... is meticulously recorded and evaluated by the system.”

She lightly touched a small emblem on her chest, a miniature replica of the obelisk:

”This emblem synchronizes with the obelisk, recording our work and contribution in real-time.

Every task completed, every problem solved, automatically increases the corresponding contribution points.”
