The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 245: Something Had Happened

Ataru Canyon.

Itʼs an extremely large canyon located west of the Capital.

The area inside the canyon is basically a world of demonic beasts. An extremely large variety of demonic beasts lair there, and theyʼre generally very high leveled too. The deeper in one goes, the higher the level of the demonic beasts. Thus, itʼs considered a treasure trove by many high leveled adventuring parties, while at the same time having sent many famous adventurers to their graves. Thus, this location is also known as ”The Canyon of Death”.

Rumors has it that in the deepest part of the canyon, there exists a large sized magic spring.

This magic spring is occupied by a terrifying level 90 demonic beast. And this occupation had lasted for four hundred years. The demonic beast in question is also something like the lord of the canyon, and due to the geography of the place, even the Kingdom would have a hard time actually taking it down, so they had no choice but to simply leave that terrifying demonic beast alone.

However, although people are scared of that terrifying demonic beast, that terrifying demonic beast also doesnʼt dare to casually leave the canyon either, keeping the situation basically stable. Thus, the Kingdom has basically turned a blind eye to it and is simply allowing it to continue occupying the large magic spring in the deepest part of the canyon.

Over the past 400 years, countless adventurers have entered this canyon in order to hunt demonic beasts or search for various natural treasures. This canyon has been a treasure trove of the adventuring world the entire time, and many adventurers would come adventure here every day.

And so long as one does not go into the deepest part of the canyon, then simply moving around the outer or inner areas somewhat as according to oneʼs own abilities wonʼt actually disturb that terrifying demonic beast.

Thanks to that, the Ataru Canyon is one of the relatively popular locations near the Capital. It would often be visited by all kinds of people.

This continued until recently, when the demonic beasts around the Capital started acting unnaturally. All the demonic beasts within the canyon started acting increasingly aggressive and dangerous, which caused many adventurers to encounter danger, and some even lost their lives. Itʼs only then that it became a real Canyon of Death, making it so that normal adventurers no longer dared to enter anymore.

At this moment, layer after layer of blockades were erected at the entrance to the Ataru Canyon, sealing off the entrance.

In front of the blockade was a fully armed and armored knight order.

Theyʼre a knight order of the Kingdom. Having received Lucyʼs orders, they started sealing off the area since the previous day, not allowing anyone into the canyon, to the point of not even letting anyone get near.

Beside the blockade was a camp erected by the knights. Tents were strewn everywhere, telling everyone who has come that this location has become a temporary base for the knight order.

There were a lot of adventuring parties who have arrived and was currently arguing with the knights.

”Why arenʼt we allowed in?”

”Isnʼt this a bit too unreasonable?”

”Weʼve accepted the guildʼs investigation quest. We have proper permission to enter!”

”Have your captain come out!”

”We demand to talk to him!”

A number of adventurers were angrily arguing with the knights like that.

Unfortunately for them, the knights continued to stand in front of the blockade with cold expressions.

”This is her highness Lucilostiʼs order.”

”No one is allowed into the canyon.”

”Leave now.”

”Leave.”

The knights didnʼt have any intention of negotiating. They just started trying to push people away without a second word.

This only made the adventurers even more angry, to the point they were even starting to push and shove against the knights.

The scene turned somewhat turbulent, to the point where it was starting to get explosive.

”You sure that Vivian and them are in this canyon?”

Seeing the chaos there, Shien was stunned for a bit before he finally asked Airi beside him.

”… The reaction from my magic power is inside. Itʼs up to you if you believe me or not.”

Airi continued to act like sheʼs unhappy, almost like she was still holding a grudge over Shien mussing up her hair just a bit ago.

”Alright.” Shien just ignored Airiʼs attitude and instead focused on the rowdy canyon base as he muttered, ”It seems like itʼs a bit chaotic here.”

”What do you plan on doing then?” Airi spoke, still upset, ”You going to go back?”

Shien didnʼt reply to her. Instead, he just starting walking forward towards the entrance of the canyon.

And naturally, the knights refused to allow him entry.

”Up ahead is sealed off by the Kingdom. Go back, adventurer.”

Who knights stepped forward before Shien. They even set their swords to block the way.

Shien just ignored them.

After all, he was the one who suggested that they seal off the areas near the Capital.

Thus, Shien wouldnʼt get mad just because heʼs being blocked.

However, Shien of course wouldnʼt stop because of that either.

”Iʼm sent by her highness Lucilosti to investigate the canyon.”

Shien pulled out the royal token from where it hung on his neck and displayed it before the knights.

”That…”

”Ah…”

The knights, who had acted so coldly and unwilling to negotiate, suddenly changed at the sight of the Holy Sword pendant in Shienʼs hand.

And the situation here very successfully attracted the attention of the people around them.

”Thatʼs the royal token!”

”In other words, that person really was sent by princess Lucilosti then?”

”So young…”

”I keep getting the feeling like Iʼve seen him before somewhere…”

The knights started glancing at each other uncertainly.

The adventurers on the other hand rushed over like they just saw reinforcements.

”Lord representative!”

”Lord representative, please help reason with them!”

”Yeah! Lord representative!”

”Those guys have gone too far!”

The adventurers started all loudly complaining, making Shien rather stunned.

Those knights however started somewhat panicking, however, and they started rebuking those adventurers.

”Shut up!”

”Donʼt speak nonsense!”

”Where did we go overboard?”

”Get back! All of you!”

The knights started moving to disperse those adventurers.

The adventurers however refused to cooperate. They stared pushing and shoving against the knights once again.

The entire scene instantly became more loud and chaotic, kind of like a bustling market.

”Just whatʼs going on here?”

Shien finally came back to himself, frowned, and looked toward a knight.

That knight panicked slightly and hurriedly started talking.

”Donʼt believe them, lord representative. Theyʼre just trying to intrude into the sealed Ataru Canyon, and we just stopped them, thatʼs all. Weʼre guarding this place under orders of her highness Lucilosti. Weʼre acting completely within the law!”

The moment that knight spoke, he was immediately shouted own by the adventurers.

”Within the law?”

”You seriously have the guts to say that youʼre acting within the law?”

”Her highness might have sent the knights out here, but she also already contacted the adventurers guild and requested aid from the guild to help investigate the abnormal areas around the Capital!”

”The guild has already published quests for investigating the Ataru Canyon. They said that weʼll be allowed in so long as weʼve accepted the quest!”

”But youʼve been blocking us the whole time. What is the meaning of this?”

”Yeah!”

The adventurers retorted one after another, and the knightsʼ expressions started turning ugly.

When he saw that, Shien understood.

It looks like something had happened here.
