What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 704: Why Wait? We Fight Now

So... I want to say that I’m surprised by the end result... But I honestly wasn’t.

All of us basically dominated the top positions though Yumiko was the top this time with eighty two points.

I was close behind at second place with seventy eight points and Amber was right behind me with seventy five.

Apparently Yumiko spawn camped them even harder than I did as she literally just stayed beside their spawn with her energy blade and the moment a new opponent appeared, she would just wrestle them to the ground until their invulnerability ran out and stabbed them from behind. Her fights literally ended in seconds.

After Amber was Lea with sixty points and following behind her was Ries with fifty points.

Mara ended up with forty nine points and she even claimed she wasn’t even trying that hard and I believe her.

The next one after her was trailing at forty points and everyone else had a pretty close score to each other after four hours of fighting.

Yeah... It really feels like we’re cheating... But well, I’m all for it since we’re the one benefiting from this.

And let’s face it, we would have definitely gotten higher scores if we didn’t have to wait to be matched with new opponents every time we won.

I’m pretty sure the amount of time I spent waiting for a new opponent was at least five times longer than the time I spent fighting.

”Hmm... As I have said, the people on the bottom five, you’ll only be getting the normal license once you graduate from here,” The instructor announced after the results were displayed on the screen back in the classroom.

One of the Mercs, whom I assumed were part of the bottom five, immediately stood up and started cussing, ”Fuck this! Why should we even accept this?! I paid the fees for it, I should be getting what I paid for! This is bullshit! This is a scam!!”

The instructor slowly turned to the guy that was protesting, ”Did you perhaps not read the contract when you signed up as a student of this academy?”

The Merc blinked, ”E... Eh? Of... Of course I did!”

Well, that reaction was already enough to tell me that this guy definitely didn’t read it. To be fair, I didn’t even know there was a contract we needed to sign either, since Mara handled everything for us.

I trust that she did read the contract though, so there shouldn’t be anything problematic in it for us.

The instructor waved his hand at him, ”Then you should know that it was already stated in the contract that the only guarantee that you would have is a normal license to begin with. The high grade license is only granted to exceptional graduates. You were never guaranteed to have that in the first place.”

The Merc seemed surprised by this and he looked around at the other Mercs around him as though trying to see if anyone else could corroborate what the instructor just said.

To his great disappointment, a few of the Mercs actually nodded to confirm that what the instructor said was true.

I turned to look at Mara as well and she also gave me a slight nod to confirm that.

As expected, Mara did read the contract properly.

The humiliated Merc sat back down silently and the instructor turned back to address the rest of the class, ”Are there any others who are not satisfied with this? If so, let it be known now.”

Everyone remained silent.

He then continued, ”Then as I had mentioned on the first day, you will have the opportunity to graduate early tomorrow. All of you will have one opportunity to fight me in a duel using the simulator and anyone who manages to defeat me will be guaranteed a high grade license immediately.”

Another Merc spoke up, ”What happens after we beat you? Are we just going to be given the license and told to leave?”

Hmm? What kind of question is that? Why does he make it sound like it’s not a good thing to leave?

The instructor seemed to understand what the guy was asking about and answered, ”You are free to use the facilities for the remaining duration of the lesson you have paid for, you do not have to worry. You can still participate in the lesson but it’s not a requirement and you are also allowed to use the training materials for your own training purposes too. By facilities, I of course include the food and board too.”

Ah, I get it... That guy was afraid that if he managed to beat the instructor, he wouldn’t be able to eat the organic food that the academy was feeding us anymore.

I guess for some people here, the organic food is a way bigger bonus than just getting the license.

Or maybe...

I leaned over to Mara and whispered, ”What was the price to register as a student here, Mara?”

”Do you want to know the price per person, Captain?”

”Yeah.”

”Five hundred thousand per person, Captain.”

Holy shit.

I sucked in a breath, ”We spent three million just to register here?”

”Yes, Captain.”

Ok... If I spent five hundred thousand Credits to register as a student of a school, you damn well believe that I’m going to make use of the school’s facilities to the max. In fact, I’m going to ask the kitchens if they can just give me some of their ingredients instead of cooking for us so that I can make the food myself instead.

Also... Now I see how this guy is able to make a living off of this...

The instructor added, ”I will also just go ahead and add... This also applies to the current bottom five as well. If you manage to beat me, you will also be able to get the high grade license that way.”

Huh, that’s pretty fair.

”And for the winners, you are also free to use the facilities however you like without being restricted to the schedule.”

Several of the Merc’s faces lit up when they heard that.

If I understood him correctly, what he means is that even if it’s not during the designated eating time, you can just go ahead and head to the mess hall and ask to be fed and the kitchens will cook for you.

Yeah, that’s a pretty big bonus.

Because that also means I can actually go to the kitchens and cook for us instead of letting them cook.

In that case, I have a question.

”Why wait then? Why not just do it right now? Since we’ve already had all these duels, we might as well just do it right now while the experience is still fresh in our minds,” I asked.

Everyone turned to look at me, some of them looking pissed that I suggested it while the others seemed to agree with me.

I’m not even sure why those guys would be pissed since if you already think that you can’t beat the instructor now, what made you think you can beat him tomorrow?

Unless... They plan to cheat somehow then even more reason to just do it now.

The instructor paused for a moment before looking at the rest of the class, ”Does anyone else agree with her?”

A few mumbles spread throughout the room and some hands went up, which included all of my girls.

Despite that, it seems like a majority of the room was not interested in it.

The instructor considered it for a moment before nodding, ”Fine. How about this then? Those that are in the top ten, you can challenge me right now if you want. Even if you fail today, you can try again tomorrow. If you don’t want to challenge me today, that’s fine too.”

Amber chuckled, ”Heh~ Then let’s get this done and over with then. When do we start?”

”Right now. Those who want to do it, follow me to the simulation room. I will take each of you on starting from the top of the list. Those who don’t qualify or aren’t interested, you are dismissed for the day.”

He then turned to leave and everyone else also got up from our seats to start filing out of the room.

For us in particular, we followed the instructor towards the simulator room again.

It also seems like only two others were also interested in challenging the instructor right now aside from just us which was surprising...

I mean... This was literally an extra chance you know? You could fight him today and even if you fail, you could at least get some information out of it like his fighting style or something. Then you’d get a better chance of winning tomorrow too since you could just try again.

I would think it’s stupid of them to pass up this chance but... Maybe they’re just lazy.

Or... The allure of organic food was more important to them than this I guess?

Whatever... First one up is Yumiko so let’s see how she does!
