Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

They suddenly felt a ripple in the air, as if something was flying over their heads in waves.

Two or three of the escorting City Defense Team members collapsed, unable to get back up. Zhang Biyun’s wailing stopped abruptly as her eyes flew wide open.

A large hole had been torn in her back, and it was now gushing blood.

The Speed Superpower User beneath her had his legs severed, and he plunged headfirst into a pool of blood.

”Miss Bi Yun!” The other Speed Superpower User snatched Zhang Biyun from the ground and continued to sprint forward desperately, not even daring to lift his head.

Beside him, three or four Power-type Superpower Users were also scared witless, scrambling away in a panicked frenzy.

In the end, Xie Ning was a step too slow. By the time she caught up, the Speed Ability User had already scurried away with Zhang Biyun.

Out of sight of the others, a few thin Space Blades flew back into the hands of the young girl, her expression cold.

The corner of her mouth twitched as she let out a cold snort.

She turned and brazenly entered Fengting Garden, spending about twenty minutes looting the place from top to bottom.

Xie Ning also opened a safe Base Chief Zhang had hidden in the wall, taking out numerous vials and clinking gold bars.

After forcefully upgrading her Space Ability to the Fourth Rank, the entire first floor of her villa dimension was now completely unlocked.

This included two newly unlocked guest rooms, a gym, a bathroom, and more.

But that wasn’t the point. The point was that she had forcefully unlocked the underground garage and even the garden-style courtyard surrounding the villa.

Although the sky above the courtyard was a vast expanse of white, the strange thing was that she could place things there.

For example, she tossed the Energy Ball—which was on the terrace, originally the size of a soccer ball but now only the size of a ping-pong ball—up into the courtyard sky.

It could apparently ascend without limit.

She tested it for several minutes but still didn’t touch any upper boundary, a realization that secretly excited her.

’What does this mean?’

’It means my villa’s courtyard space will likely allow for unlimited storage in the future!’

The underground garage contained only a small panel van. Her mom used to drive it to Grandma’s, bringing home half a van full of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Beside it, a sliding door opened to a large storage room.

Some of the family’s old, replaced furniture and appliances, along with various other useless odds and ends, were all piled up in here.

With a flick of her spiritual power, Xie Ning temporarily moved the items she had previously redeemed for a million points into this underground storage room.

This way, her own room and her mother’s room upstairs could be restored to their original state, no longer piled high with goods like a peddler’s stand.

The living room, dining room, and terrace would no longer be a chaotic, jumbled mess.

Of course, all these things would have to be properly organized later, but Xie Ning didn’t have time to deal with it right now.

Stepping into the villa’s backyard, Xie Ning’s eyes immediately lit up at the sight of eight large oil storage tanks placed against the wall.

Next to them stood five iron racks, holding rows upon rows of 180L barrels of gasoline.

’Aren’t these the exact strategic supplies I need for my getaway?’

Xie Ning took down one barrel and moved the rest—iron racks, storage tanks, and all—into her villa dimension’s courtyard.

She also placed them in an inconspicuous spot along the backyard wall.

After filling up the minivan and the RV, Xie Ning sealed the remaining barrel, now a little more than half full, and placed it in the minivan’s trunk.

Two SUVs and an MPV were parked in Base Chief Zhang’s backyard. Their performance was nothing compared to the modified car Xiao Gu had given her, but having cars was better than having none.

Acting in the grand tradition of never passing up an opportunity, Xie Ning waved her hand and stored all three vehicles in her underground garage.

She drove the minivan straight to the base’s main warehouse.

Most of the City Defense Team had been dispatched earlier by Zhang Zhennong to surround and attack her family.

The rest had presumably all gone to escort the precious Princess Zhang Biyun out of the base.

The main warehouse was unguarded. Without a shred of politeness, Xie Ning used her Gold Ability to break the three heavy locks and walked right in.

Inside, the warehouse was divided into several large sections, including a food area and a daily necessities area.

Xie Ning took all the daily necessities. With the impending chaos, leaving them behind would be a waste.

She took more than half of the food, planning to notify Zhao Jianjun and his people to come collect the rest later.

Xie Ning took these items, shelves and all, and placed them in an empty area on the left side of her courtyard space.

If she ran out of ground space, she just stacked them higher; after all, the vertical space was unlimited.

Besides, she now understood that anything taken into her space could be moved at will.

She could arrange them however she wanted, with no risk of them ever collapsing.

Driving out from behind the warehouse, she also loaded up the remaining construction materials they had collected from the docks last time.

This base was going to be abandoned anyway; it’d be a waste not to take the materials.

Xie Ning floored it in the minivan, making a special trip to the north gate to find Zhao Jianjun and chat for a few moments.

Whether people listened to her was their business; she had done her part by passing on the message.

Whether they believed her was their problem. All that mattered was that her conscience was clear.

Xie Ning floored it in the minivan and sped back home.

By this time, the sky was gradually growing dark.

”Get ready to leave. Has Zong Xuan woken up?”

Xie Ning drove the car directly through the dilapidated iron gate, slammed the door shut, and rushed into the living room.

”He’s awake! He’s awake!!” Ji Taixian’s excited voice rang out. ”Ms. Ning, quick, look!”

Xie Ning blinked, and an afterimage that looked just like Wang Zongxuan zipped in front of her and circled around her.

The real Wang Zongxuan was standing by the sofa, holding a small crossbow. He abruptly aimed at the nearby wall and fired an arrow.

Xie Ning then saw the dark afterimage standing next to her mimic the motion, raising a virtual crossbow and firing a shot at the opposite wall.

”Whoa!!” Song Kexin leaped off the sofa. ”What kind of superpower is that? A doppelganger, right?”

Xie Ning nodded, a hint of admiration in her eyes. ”It’s a very rare doppelganger ability. How long can you control it?”

Wang Zongxuan recalled the doppelganger and scratched his head. ”I think ten minutes, at most.”

Xie Ning walked forward with a smile and patted his shoulder. ”That’s very good. You’ve only just awakened and are barely at the Initial Stage. You have a lot of room for improvement, so keep up the hard work.”

His eyes smiling, Wang Zongxuan nodded vigorously. ”I will!”

”Old Wang, you really scared me to death!” Ji Taixian wailed, throwing himself at him. ”Do you have any idea? I was a mess of snot and tears, crying for a good hour!”

”If you had died, how could I ever face the Wang Family?”

”Get off, get off, get off!”

Everyone burst into laughter.

Xie Ning noticed that while everyone else seemed to have relaxed considerably, her mother sat on the edge of the sofa with a furrowed brow, completely silent.

Xie Ning pursed her lips. ”Things were rushed earlier. I haven’t had a chance to introduce the new members yet.”

”Housekeeper Youen.”

The mustachioed housekeeper immediately stepped forward, placed a hand across his chest, and bowed to everyone.

Everyone scrambled to their feet, bowing back in a disorganized fashion, some even offering an awkward, mismatched cupped-fist salute in return.

”This is Cres.” Xie Ning turned her gaze to the small, blond boy. ”The Spiritual System has many different types. What is the function of your superpower?”
