Medical and Martial God

”Let’s do this. We’ll compare who can treat external and internal injuries faster and more effectively,” Bai Changqing said after thinking for a moment. ”But Medicine King Valley doesn’t have any patients. How about we use livestock instead?”

”Agreed!” Ye Xiu nodded, adding a suggestion. ”To ensure fairness, the livestock must be of the same type, and Dongfang Chaonan must be the one to injure them to ensure their wounds are identical.”

”No problem!” Bai Changqing consented.

”Good!” Dongfang Chaonan nodded.

Soon, some men from Medicine King Valley led out two water buffalo.

Dongfang Chaonan struck both water buffalo with his palms, knocking them to the ground where they began spitting blood. He then made three cuts on each animal, ensuring the length, depth, and location of the wounds were exactly the same.

”You may begin,” Dongfang Chaonan said.

Ye Xiu immediately went to inspect the water buffalo’s injuries.

Bai Changqing, however, didn’t even glance at the animals. He turned to one of the men from Medicine King Valley and said, ”Go and get me the herbs and alchemy equipment for refining a Marrow Cleansing Pill.”

The man’s eyes lit up. The Marrow Cleansing Pill could not only achieve Cleansing Essence and Marrow but also treat all kinds of internal and external injuries. No matter how severe the wound, consuming a single Marrow Cleansing Pill would lead to a full recovery within ten minutes.

Bai Changqing had chosen to compete against Ye Xiu with the Marrow Cleansing Pill.

Victory was assured!

”Ye Xiu, just ask for anything you need,” Bai Changqing said with a confident, mocking air. ”When it comes to medical supplies, Medicine King Valley has it all.”

”I just need a set of silver needles,” Ye Xiu replied.

Everyone from Medicine King Valley was taken aback.

”You only need silver needles? No medicine?” Bai Changqing asked.

Ye Xiu nodded.

At this, Bai Changqing and several others from Medicine King Valley couldn’t help but snort with laughter.

”Ye Xiu, I think you know you’re bound to lose, so you’re just giving up, aren’t you?” Bai Changqing mocked.

Bai Shan Jun chimed in, ”Mr. Ye, even if your medical skills are inferior to Bai Changqing’s, please give it your all. To concede without a fight is not the way of a doctor.”

Dongfang Chaonan, Da Zhuang, Er Leng, and Mei Li also wanted to say something, but An Dongye stopped them. An Dongye understood Ye Xiu and knew he wouldn’t do something for show only to embarrass himself.

”My competition with Bai Changqing has already begun,” Ye Xiu said. ”I asked for silver needles, yet all of you are just standing here with your taunts. Who is responsible for this delay?”

Bai Shan Jun and Bai Changqing were at a loss for words. The others from Medicine King Valley were left speechless.

”Fine, fine, get him his silver needles,” Bai Shan Jun said with a disdainful snicker, instructing someone to fetch them for Ye Xiu.

Everyone in Medicine King Valley owned a set of silver needles, so a set was brought over quickly. The herbs and alchemy equipment Bai Changqing required, however, would take more time to prepare.

”Open those arrogant eyes of yours and watch closely,” Ye Xiu said calmly as he took the needles. ”I’m starting now.”

”All for show,” Bai Changqing scoffed.

At this moment, Bai Shan Jun and the others from Medicine King Valley saw Ye Xiu as nothing more than a clown. They even began to wonder if this was an imposter. How could the esteemed Xuanse Medicine King be so frivolous?

Ye Xiu paid them no mind and began treating the water buffalo with the silver needles.

At first, Bai Shan Jun, Bai Changqing, and everyone else from Medicine King Valley looked on with mocking expressions, as if watching a clown perform. However, as they watched the wounds on the water buffalo begin to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye, their faces filled with shock.

”How is this possible?” Bai Changqing exclaimed in shock. ”To heal wounds at a speed visible to the naked eye using only silver needles and no medicine... I’ve never even heard of such an Acupuncture Technique for treating external injuries!”

He had voiced what everyone present was thinking. With a heritage spanning over two thousand years, Medicine King Valley had a profound medical foundation and arguably possessed all imaginable treatment methods and prescriptions. Yet, they had not only never seen Ye Xiu’s miraculous acupuncture method, but they had also never even heard of it.

Ten minutes later, Ye Xiu withdrew the needles and stood up.

”It’s done,” he announced. ”The buffalo’s external and internal injuries are both healed. You can check for yourselves.”

”Impossible!” Bai Changqing challenged. ”Even if your Acupuncture Technique is miraculous and can heal external wounds quickly, internal injuries require medicinal support. How could you possibly treat them with just acupuncture...?”

Before he could finish, the water buffalo that Ye Xiu had treated got to its feet.

The crowd from Medicine King Valley erupted.

Bai Shan Jun and several other elders from the valley hurried over to inspect the animal’s condition. A moment later, Bai Shan Jun’s face was a mask of shock and disbelief. ”Incredible... Impossible... It’s a miracle! Mr. Ye, you actually healed the buffalo’s external and internal injuries with just your Acupuncture Technique! You even cured its hidden ailments in the process. This is the healthiest water buffalo I have ever seen.”

The other elders who examined the animal also began voicing their own stunned remarks. Hearing this, the rest of the people from Medicine King Valley, including Bai Changqing, went to inspect the buffalo for themselves.

They were all utterly shocked.

”Have the herbs and alchemy equipment you needed been delivered yet?” Ye Xiu asked Bai Changqing, his tone dripping with contempt.

Bai Changqing was left speechless. Humiliated by Ye Xiu’s single sentence, his face flushed red, white, and then ashen, like a strobe light. Remembering how he had challenged and insulted Ye Xiu, he wished he could find a hole to crawl into and never come out.

A contest of medical skills.

He hadn’t even finished his preparations, and Ye Xiu had already finished the job. The gap between their medical skills was as vast as that between heaven and earth.

”I rejected your challenge earlier for two reasons,” Ye Xiu said bluntly, crushing Bai Changqing’s dignity. ”First, it would be impolite of me to defeat someone from Medicine King Valley on my first visit. And second, you are not worthy to be my opponent.”

He then turned his gaze to Bai Shan Jun. ”Of course, Senior Bai, you aren’t worthy of being my opponent either. However, we did agree that if I defeated Bai Changqing, I could challenge you. So, is your face ready to be ground into the dirt by me?”

Ye Xiu had always lived by the principle of returning respect with greater respect. Since Bai Shan Jun and Bai Changqing had been so rude, he saw no reason to be polite to them.

An Dongye, Dongfang Chaonan, Da Zhuang, Er Leng, and Mei Li felt their blood boil with excitement at Ye Xiu’s words. Ye Xiu was their guest; his complete domination of Bai Changqing and his contempt for Bai Shan Jun brought them great honor.

As for Bai Shan Jun, Bai Changqing, and the people of Medicine King Valley, their faces burned with a mixture of shame and anger. With a legacy of over two thousand years, Medicine King Valley had never suffered such a humiliating defeat in medicine, the very field of their greatest pride.

”Mr. Ye, I apologize for my previous attitude,” Bai Shan Jun said with a shameful apology. ”However, do not think that just because you defeated Bai Changqing, you can defeat me. I now accept your challenge.”

He could not avoid a battle with Ye Xiu, nor could he afford to. Moreover, he had to win.

Though the outside world knew nothing of Medicine King Valley, it held immense prestige among all the Totem Clans, Totem Organizations, and even some reclusive families and experts. Whenever those people needed Healing Medicine or suffered grievous injuries, they would all seek help from Medicine King Valley. This was the very source of Medicine King Valley’s extraordinary status.
