THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE

Tan Suzi rested the thin manual across her knee.“You should listen carefully,” she said. “I won’t repeat this.” and looked at Yan.

Yan lay still on the straw mat.Every breath pulled against bruised ribs. The pain came in steady pulses, sharp enough to remind him that his body was still fragile.

He ignored it.

Tan Suzi opened the classical script manual.

“First,” she said, tapping the page,

“forget everything you think cultivation is.”

Yan said nothing.

“Qi cannot be seen.” Tan Suzi took a chalk and wrote on the board.

He frowned faintly.

“Then how do cultivators find it?” Yan asked.

“You don’t,” she rubbed it off the board.

“You learn to feel it.”

The storehouse creaked softly as wind shifted the wooden walls. Grain sacks rustled faintly.

“Qi exists everywhere,” she continued.

“In the air. In water. In soil. In living things.”

Her finger tapped the page.

“But most people cannot sense it.”

Yan turned his head slightly toward the manual.

The symbols looked crude at first glance.

Thick strokes with heavy lines.

Almost like marks carved into stone rather than written with ink.

“These are classical letters,” Tan Suzi said.

“They were created long ago. No one knows when.”

She turned the page.

“There are only ten.”

Her voice remained calm and then she extended her hand and wrote the letters on the board.

“Mind.”

“Dark.”

“Light.”

“Chaos.”

“Sky.”

“Ground.”

“Wind.”

“Fire.”

“Space.”

“Time.”

Yan studied them carefully.

“They don’t look like language,” he said.

“They aren’t,” Tan Suzi replied.

“They describe patterns.”

Yan watched the symbols in silence.

Patterns.

That word lingered.

“Qi doesn’t move randomly,” Tan Suzi continued.

“It follows these patterns.”

She tapped the page again.

“The letters help cultivators recognize what qi feels like.” Yan’s eyes paused on one symbol longer than the others.

Ground.

Something about its shape felt… familiar.

Tan Suzi continued.

“When someone studies a letter long enough, their spiritual line begins to respond.”

Yan shifted his gaze toward her.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from NovelFire. Please report it.

“Respond?”

“Yes.”

“The spiritual line resonates with the pattern it understands easily, and it is called as foundation letter”

She tapped lightly over her chest.

“When that happens, qi from the surroundings flows into it.”

Yan listened carefully.

His breathing slowed.

“And then?” he asked.

“The qi travels through the spiritual line.”

“To the soul.”

Yan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“The soul?”

“Yes.”

“The soul absorbs it,” Tan Suzi said.

“That is what cultivation strengthens.”

Yan thought about that.

Most villagers believed strength came from muscle but not soul. Yet Tan Suzi spoke as if the body mattered the least.

“The body is not the source of power,” she continued.

“The soul is.”

Yan considered the words quietly.

“And the body?” he asked.

“The body is only a medium.”

“When a technique is used, the body releases the strength of the soul.”

Yan said nothing.

Tan Suzi lifted the manual again.

“Cultivation techniques can be used by understanding and combining these letters.”

She pointed to one sequence.

“Ground and Wind.”

“That person has offence as wind, and defence as ground, and if combined he could have a very high offence”

Another.

“Fire and Wind.”

“That could produce explosive force.”

Yan listened and studied the patterns carefully.

“Is it possible to understand more letters than the foundation letter?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“But not at the spiritual qi foundation layer”

“But possible at higher realms”

Tan Suzi explained.

“So, When a cultivator studies long enough, one letter becomes clearer than the rest.”

“That becomes the foundation letter.”

“If someone understands Fire first, their qi becomes destructive.”

“If they understand Wind first, their qi moves faster.”

“If they understand Ground first…”

She glanced briefly at the page.

“…their qi becomes stable.”

Yan’s gaze had already returned to the symbol.

Ground.

Yan took a deep breath but still stared at the Ground letter, he felt something kind of attraction to it.

“You’re staring too long.”

Yan did not answer.

She closed the manual.

“It doesn’t matter much right now anyway.”

Yan looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because your understanding is shallow,” she said.

“At the foundation realm you barely sense qi.”

She stood.

Dust shifted beneath her boots. Yan spoke again.

“What about body cultivation?”

Tan Suzi paused.

“Some cultivators direct the soul’s strength back into the body instead of releasing it outward.”

“That strengthens bones and flesh.”

“But it’s still the same qi.”

”Same goes for sword or spear cultivation, it’s all about how you channel the strength of the soul”

She walked toward the door.

“Different methods.”

“Same foundation.”

Yan remained still.

Tan Suzi stopped before opening the door, “One more thing.”

Yan looked up.

“I advise you to hide your letter resonance”

Her voice hardened slightly, “It will give you an advantage”

She opened the door.

Cool night air slipped into the storehouse.

“I’ll return tomorrow.”

Then she left.

The door closed quietly behind her.Yan remained on the straw mat.For several breaths he did not move. The storehouse settled back into silence. The faint smell of dry grain and old wood pressed heavily into the air.

When he tried to shift his arm, pain flared sharply across his ribs. His breath caught. The bruising had deepened since he woke. Every small movement tugged against muscles that had not finished tearing.

Yan exhaled slowly through his nose. The pain ran deeper than the skin. His body felt hollowed out, as if the blows had shaken something loose inside his chest.

He waited until the wave passed.Only then did he turn his head slightly toward the board.

Ground.

The symbol looked simple.Just thick strokes arranged in a shape that seemed almost crude.

Yet the longer he stared at it, the less it resembled writing.

It felt like the symbol was part of him.
