Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 1027: Chapter 1031: Will Not Let This Go

When Duan Zhuangyu woke up again, it was already the next morning. She cried and kicked up a fuss, and even cursed the motorbike driver who had hit her: ”Mom, where’s the guy who hit me? This can’t just be brushed aside. He’s the one who killed my baby.”

Actually, when she got to the mouth of the alley, she’d heard the sound of the motorbike. She’d thought the road outside was wide enough that even if she suddenly rushed out, there’d still be enough space for the bike to swerve around her. It was just that she’d been blinded by rage at the time and misjudged the situation.

The motorbike had turned in from the main road outside, and there was even a tricycle parked by the roadside. If the rider hadn’t reacted fast enough, whether she’d still be alive now would be a toss-up.

And it just so happened that the person she was cursing lived in a ward not far from hers. Her outburst was overheard by Xiao Tianwan, who had just fetched hot water from the utility room and was on her way back to relieve her eldest sister. That was how she found out the culprit who had harmed her younger brother was right here.

She slammed the thermos she was holding down by the wall and rushed in: ”You jinx, you’ve knocked my brother into a coma and you still have the nerve to curse him?”

She didn’t care what condition Duan Zhuangyu was in and started swinging right away.

It all happened too suddenly; even Shen Qiuye, who was keeping her company, didn’t react in time. Only when she heard Duan Zhuangyu’s screams did she snap out of it: ”Who are you? How can you just hit someone like that?”

”Who am I? You’ve got the nerve to ask? If it wasn’t for this woman suddenly darting out of the alley, my brother wouldn’t have been thrown and hurt like that. If anything happens to my brother, I’ll have you pay with your lives.”

Duan Zhuangyu was furious at these words, but right now she had no spare strength to argue back.

In the end, one of the other patients’ family members in the ward couldn’t stand watching anymore and stepped in to pull them apart: ”Miss, if there’s something to say, say it properly. Look at the state she’s in—if you keep hitting her, something serious is going to happen.”

The commotion in this ward naturally alerted the Xiao Family in the ward not far away. As soon as Mr. Xiao got close, he heard his second daughter’s voice: ”People like her deserve to be beaten to death.”

Hearing that, he understood too. It seemed the woman who’d caused his son’s injuries was staying here.

He’d already had people look into it clearly and had asked his younger brother to report it to the police. His son had suffered such a serious injury—there was no way he was going to let it go: ”Tianwan, what’s going on?”

Seeing her dad, Tianwan pointed at the person on the bed: ”Dad, it’s this woman who harmed our Tianbao.”

Shen Qiuye wouldn’t have it: ”Watch your mouth. It was your brother on that motorbike who hit my daughter and caused her to miscarry, and you still dare to turn around and pin it on us?”

”Pah, why don’t you ask your daughter what really happened? Does she dare say it was my brother’s fault?”

”Might as well tell you, we’ve already found quite a few eyewitnesses. Don’t think you can weasel out of this.”

Those words scared Duan Zhuangyu badly, but she refused to back down: ”Don’t talk nonsense. I’ve never seen someone who hits a person and then still dares to smear them. No one’s going to buy that story anywhere.”

Mr. Xiao tugged his second daughter back: ”We’ll argue this with them later. Right now your brother’s injuries are what matter most.”

The hospital had said they had to come up with a plan as soon as possible. The longer they delayed, the more danger his son would be in. There was a blood clot in his brain; either they opened up his skull, or they had to think of some other way.

He had no mind to tangle with this family right now, all his thoughts were on his son.

After traveling through the night, his face was lined with exhaustion, but he still threw a vicious warning at the Duan family: ”Who’s right and who’s wrong, we’ll see in due time. You’d better pray my son comes through this, or I swear I won’t let you off.”
