Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 749: Chapter 749: What a Clever Scheme

Huo Jingrui raised the fish in his hand with a smile: ”I went to the countryside for a research trip today. Luckily, a local was pulling up a net, and I managed to exchange a ticket for a fish. Didn’t you say you wanted to eat fish with pickled vegetables? I’ll make it for you tomorrow at noon.”

Yunyi was delighted: ”You’re off tomorrow?”

Huo Jingrui nodded: ”Yes, tomorrow I’ll see what other small matters we need to arrange. In a few days, they should be here.”

The ”they” Huo Jingrui was referring to were, of course, the Huo Family and the Ye Family.

Originally, Yunyi was planning to return to Beijing with them since her master mentioned a visit to treat a patient.

But later, her master Yuan Yuxun called and said the patient who needed acupuncture had objections from their mother at home, so he canceled Yunyi’s visit on her behalf.

Because of this, Yuan Yuxun even sent her an urgent letter.

She learned that Yuan Yuxun was initially acting with good intentions, hoping to help their family since their relations were close before anything happened. After all, he watched that kid grow up.

But unexpectedly, after speaking well with his old friend, within a few days, the friend approached him and indirectly expressed some dubious sentiments.

He wasn’t stupid and could guess from his friend’s words that it must have been his friend’s wife who thought Yunyi was too young and didn’t trust her, believing he was risking using his own son as a guinea pig for an apprentice. She vehemently disagreed.

Seeing the situation, Yuan Yuxun thought since they didn’t trust him, he couldn’t force it, and the matter was left unresolved.

However, after this incident, Huo Jingrui privately investigated the situation.

Both quickly learned the whole story, and Yunyi also found out from Yuan Yuxun that the person in question was Fu Chenyi. The later objections from Mrs. Fu turned out to be due to meddling by the eldest daughter-in-law of the Qin Family, whose motives were obvious.

It truly was a cunning plan.

From Huo Jingrui, Yunyi already knew that the Fu Family and the Huo Family lived in the same courtyard, and that Huo Jingrui and Fu Chenyi not only knew each other but also had a decent relationship.

Yunyi returned her thoughts to the previous topic: ”I don’t even know how many people are coming; if there are too many, this courtyard might not fit them.”

Huo Jingrui washed an apple and handed it to her: ”Don’t worry, I’ve already made arrangements with the factory’s guesthouse to reserve rooms for them.”

At this moment, Huo Jiayuan chimed in: ”Fourth sister-in-law, just relax. Focus on being a beautiful bride that day. Leave the rest to my fourth brother, and if that doesn’t work, there’s still me.”

Before Yunyi could say anything, she excitedly exclaimed: ”What do you think mom and dad will say when they taste my cooking?”

She really couldn’t wait to see their surprised expressions.

After all, she used to be someone who never did household chores, and now she could cook and clean with ease. Although she wasn’t very skilled, her parents no longer had to worry about her being disliked by her in-laws for not knowing how to do housework after marriage.

Just as they finished cooking, they heard a knock on the main door outside.

Huo Jingrui stood up, but just as he was about to respond, someone pushed the door open and came in.

He furrowed his brows and stepped out of the courtyard.

Seeing the visitor, he asked: ”Auntie Qi, is something the matter?”

Auntie Qi smiled awkwardly: ”Vice Factory Director Huo, we’ve just moved in a few days ago and haven’t had the chance to visit our neighbors, so I thought I’d come by and say hello.”

If her eyes weren’t constantly glancing towards the kitchen, her words might have had some credibility. But given how she kept looking towards the kitchen, even a fool would understand her intention, especially since she was holding a bowl of sticky cornmeal and beans.

The intent couldn’t be clearer; she wanted to exchange the cornmeal for some meat.
