Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 817: Wrath of Yesterday, Annihilation of All Things

Although he didnʼt know exactly what the creature with the massive eyeball beneath this body of water was, Lin Yu was certain of one thing...

This thing was a trap—either the Inquisitor of the Tribunal had prepared it for the three of them, or specifically for him.

And it made no effort to hide its hostility and murderous intent toward Lin Yu.

”Shaa—!”

A muffled roar came from underwater, and then the eye moved.

”Whoosh!”

It vanished from their sight, as if diving deeper.

This clearly wasnʼt a retreat—it was what predators did before hunting.

Lin Yu felt a chill crawl down his spine. An instinctive, primal fear sent fine waves of icy dread seeping through his skin from the inside out.

Fish felt the same.

But compared to fear, Fish seemed more consumed by anger.

”That goddamn Inquisitor of the Tribunal had the nerve to play us!”

She clenched her fists, then drew both flintlock pistols.

Lin Yu looked at Fish, somewhat confused. ”Are you planning to go head-to-head with that big thing?”

”Got a better idea?” Fish said coldly. ”That damn old bastard sent us down here without leaving an exit. At least not one we can find anytime soon.”

”Besides... whateverʼs under the water is still a dark creature. No idea what rank it is, but killing it should count as clearing this dungeon.”

As Fish spoke, Lin Yu put on a show of being encouraged.

”Youʼve got a point... Seems like our only choice is to fight to the death.”

He said this while pulling out his own ”weapon.”

The weapon heʼd prepared for Schreiber was the [Soul-Chasing Life-Severing Spear] heʼd obtained from the [dungeon] in Prison Mountain Realm.

Although Lin Yu hadnʼt yet mastered the specialized spear techniques to go with it, the spearʼs exceptionally high quality was more than enough to serve as a main weapon for someone at the ”Second Tier.”

Gripping the spear tightly, he glanced over at Raymond.

Unexpectedly, the man—whoʼd been dragged along by Fish just moments ago and had clearly shown a ”weʼre screwed” expression when he saw that massive eye—was now already ready for battle.

He put on goggles, took a deep gulp of alcohol, then drew the gun and sword from his back.

”This country... these churches are a complete mess,” Raymond grumbled, exhaling a turbid breath laced with alcohol fumes, his expression now showing no panic. ”Even the Tribunal of Heresy, once established as the ʼlast line of defense for humanity,ʼ has secretly been raising dark species within the city!”

”Raymond, what exactly is this thing under the water?”

Fish asked, and Raymond gave his answer.

”Snake descendants... at least Lord-tier.”

”A Lord-tier wouldnʼt give me such a dangerous feeling,” Fish said, staring at the water. She held the darker flintlock horizontally in her left hand, using it as a stabilizing rest beneath the lighter one she held with her right. ”This one... at least Monarch-tier.”

”And itʼs an adult Monarch-tier.”

As Fish spoke, Raymond frowned. ”If itʼs Monarch-tier, how could it possibly be hidden? Even if heʼs the Inquisitor of the Tribunal, thereʼs no way.”

Raymondʼs words met only silence from Fish.

”Weʼll find out if itʼs Monarch-tier soon enough.”

Raymond froze. ”What do you mean?”

Fish took a deep breath, and then currents of energy began surging around her.

The overflowing mana bled into the surrounding reality, forming spirals and breezes.

The carvings on the wooden grip, body, and barrel of the lighter flintlock began to glow with each breath she took, growing brighter and brighter.

Within seconds, the patterns on the flintlock blazed like ignited magnesium powder, nearly blinding.

”If this next shot doesnʼt kill it, then itʼs indisputably Monarch-tier.”

As Fish finished speaking...

She uttered a brief incantation.

A few forceful syllables burst forth, and all the overloaded mana poured into the flintlock—

”Tch!”

A pitch-black flame erupted from the muzzle, carrying a massive explosive force of mana as it blasted toward the waterʼs surface. In an instant, the surface exploded, evaporating into an endless cloud of mist!

Lin Yu had gathered information from the forum before. Fish of the Marauders was a player with incredible destructive power. Even though she held the [Freelancer], a ”Unique Class” whose name suggested flexibility and adaptability... in reality, her style in [dungeons] rarely relied on her [Class].

That was because sheʼd obtained certain extremely powerful [items] in both Night Valley and the Wasteland realms, along with training in how to use them.

Her most commonly used items were the twin flintlock pistols inherited from the extraordinary being ”Gliff Karlonlan,” who held titles like ”Legendary Abyss Adventurer,” ”Dark Assassin,” ”Demonʼs Pallbearer,” and ”Peak of Mortalkind” in the Night Valley Realm.

According to Orderʼs internal records, one of the flintlocks was called [Grace], and the other was called [Wrath of Yesterday].

[Grace] had a faster fire rate, while [Wrath of Yesterday] packed greater power.

All along, Lin Yu had assumed the darker flintlock—the one sheʼd repeatedly used to unleash [Piercing Sacred Might]—was [Wrath of Yesterday].

But now he understood...

That one was actually [Grace].

The lighter one in her hand now was the real [Wrath of Yesterday].

Behind the mist, the black mana and flames continued expanding, exploding, expanding!

They spread downward into the water, as if trying to ”annihilate” the entire body of water!

Even without understanding the meaning of the Night Valley incantation, witnessing this terrifying sight made Lin Yu naturally grasp the significance of those syllables strung together.

It was also the name of this technique—like [Piercing Sacred Might], but even more terrifying.

”Annihilation of All Things!”

Fish lowered the flintlock and let out a long breath, as if the smoke and gunpowder in her lungs were being expelled.

”Phew—”

”No matter what the hell you are... take that from me first!”

The sheer power almost made Lin Yu doubt.

Even a so-called ”Monarch-tier” couldnʼt possibly come through that unscathed.

And that was exactly what happened.

The massive creature that had been lurking, waiting for an opportunity to strike, clearly hadnʼt expected a preemptive attack from the humans.

As droplets of water pattered down like rain, mist hung in the air, and the fierce black flames churned beneath the surface, a thunderous roar echoed.

It was the monsterʼs howl.

And that meant...

”Definitely Monarch-tier.”

Fish delivered her verdict like a final judgment, raising the flintlock again.

This time, she aimed above the waterʼs surface.

And just as she took aim...

”Boom!”

The creature beneath the water burst through the darkness and emerged above the surface!

A towering, several-story-high shadow, as massive as a skyscraper, stood before the three of them!
