Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 615: The Informant

Good Night felt nothing but endless regret at this moment.

Why on earth did he have to open his big mouth?

Although most people who joined Order and rose to middle or upper management were righteous individuals with a sense of justice, hoping to establish and maintain ”order.”

But there were differences even among different kinds of justice.

Good Night joined Order simply hoping to help others as much as possible within his own capabilities.

From the fact that his awakened Class was Corporate Drone, it could also be seen that Good Nightʼs self-positioning and self-awareness were not that of a crucial character.

Whether it was confronting overly powerful enemies or resolving troublesome incidents, in Good Nightʼs view, these things were far beyond his capabilities and needed to be avoided as much as possible.

So...

”Can I pretend I didnʼt hear about this?”

He looked at Lin Yu and asked sincerely.
Finding a mole within Order, in Good Nightʼs opinion, was something far, far beyond his capabilities.

Facing Good Nightʼs request, Lin Yu naturally gave a slight smile.

”Of course not.”

He told Good Night all this precisely to drag him into this mess.

”I will report this truthfully to Li Hua,” Lin Yu said, looking at Good Night. ”Now, Comrade Team Leader... your only path is to investigate this with me.”

Good Night sighed. ”Alright, alright... Why arenʼt you dragging Paper Kite into this? Even though weʼre both Third Tier, his Assassin class is more useful than my Corporate Drone, plus he hates evil and is currently in a semi-demoted state, eager to atone for his mistakes and earn merit...”

Lin Yu shook his head. ”I donʼt trust him.”

Although Paper Kite had shown no problems during their recent interactions, his previous record of killing made Lin Yu unable to determine if Paper Kite was truly trustworthy.

After all...

Hating evil and being currently disciplined could also very well be reasons for Paper Kite to turn to external forces and become disloyal.

Lin Yu believed that with Orderʼs capabilities and those screening and evaluation procedures, if not able to filter out all the ”bad people” before they joined, they should at least be able to filter out ninety-nine percent.

Therefore, if there really was a mole within Order, Lin Yu felt it was more likely that this ”mole” had ”betrayed” their original self after joining, rather than being a plant from the very beginning.

Even their ”betrayal” might not necessarily be due to coercion, temptation, corruption, or decay; it could simply be a matter of going to extremes.

Therefore... the more someone like Paper Kite, who seemed filled with justice and even more sincere than the average Order member, the more likely they were to potentially betray Order.

After all, after the screening process, many Order members wouldnʼt betray the organization for profit... but what about for beliefs?

They might have agreed with the organizationʼs beliefs when they first joined Order, but over time, they discovered aspects of the organization that didnʼt meet their expectations, or they grew and changed a lot within the Death Game, ultimately leading them down the path of becoming a ”mole” and betraying Order.

This was precisely why Lin Yu chose Good Night—based on their interactions during this period, the more someone like Good Night, the more reliable they were, absolutely unlikely to ”betray.”

Rather than trusting conscience, it was better to trust his courage and personality—how could someone who shared short videos with him on WeChat every day possibly betray a decently-treated organization for profit or beliefs?

Good Night, having reached the Third Tier, wasnʼt stupid either. Hearing Lin Yu say this, he silently sighed.

”Alright, you helped me with my political achievements during the Haicheng incident last time, so Iʼll help you this time...”

”Anyway, if this succeeds, my position should rise even higher.”

At this point, Good Night pondered for a moment. ”So, after looking at the files of everyone in Jiangcheng, do you have any suspects?”

Lin Yu nodded. ”Not for now, but... I do have some ideas and directions on how to start the investigation.”

Good Night, as Lin Yuʼs immediate superior and the future decision-maker for Order in Jiangcheng, now looked like a hands-off boss ready to follow Lin Yuʼs lead.

”Elaborate. What work do you need me to coordinate?”

”I really do need you to handle some things, Team Leader Good Night,” Lin Yu said, stroking his chin. ”Report to the higher-ups and write an application document. Our Jiangcheng branch plans to launch a crackdown operation targeting those illegal organizations and Players. We hope other Order branches in various cities can also follow up and continuously cooperate, conducting a relatively large-scale purge to improve the current game environment. We hope the higher-ups will approve.”

As Lin Yu spoke, Good Night was stunned.

”Youʼre going this big?”

”The problem is... if the higher-ups really approve, what are you going to do?”

”You canʼt possibly expect me to give Li Hua, or the Central China Region person in charge, or even the Secretary a heads-up that this is a false message to catch a mole, can you?”

Hearing Good Nightʼs words, Lin Yu looked puzzled. ”When did I say this was a false message? This is a real action that needs approval from above and is really going to be implemented.”

Good Night looked at Lin Yu as if heʼd seen a ghost. ”Then what do you plan to do if it gets approved? Do you know why weʼve never gone to wipe out those organizations?”

”Definitely not because we canʼt defeat them, so it must be because we canʼt find them and are afraid of causing collateral damage, right?”

Lin Yu said calmly.

”Yes, Order canʼt engage them in battle within city districts. If things get out of control, we canʼt bear the consequences.”

”What if I can find their more remote strongholds? After all, these organizations are also afraid of their locations being exposed and often set up strongholds in the suburbs,” Lin Yu said calmly. ”Moreover, even for strongholds within the city districts... as long as we can accurately know how many people are there and their strength levels, conducting targeted crackdown operations point by point shouldnʼt get out of control.”

Hearing Lin Yuʼs words, Good Night laughed. ”If you really have that ability, then of course we can write the application, but... how is that possible?”

But seeing the firm expression on Lin Yuʼs face, the smile on Good Nightʼs face gradually faded.

”Youʼre serious?”

”Of course. Do I look like someone who likes to joke?”

Lin Yu retorted to Good Night.

”Source of the information?”

Good Night finally realized the seriousness of the matter—if what Lin Yu said was true, then what he was about to do would almost involve everyone within the entire Player circle, causing an earthquake that would be felt by all Players.

A smile appeared on Lin Yuʼs face.

”If thereʼs a mole inside Order, then why canʼt we develop someone from another organization to become a mole for us?”

Then, Lin Yu paused.

”Mole doesnʼt sound very nice—anyway, I know a guy. He has connections in various organizations and might be able to become our informant.”
