Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 614: The Traitor Within the Order

After bidding farewell to the Tycoon, Lin Yu then went to the comprehensive office of the Orderʼs Jiangcheng branch.

As a massive organization, besides having several teams along with their reserve and logistics personnel in each city, the Order also had administrative departments composed of non-frontline staff, comprising three sections: the Organization Department, the Finance Department, and the External Affairs Department.

After all, many of the Orderʼs mid-to-high-level members came from official backgrounds, so this system and set of rules were quite familiar and convenient for them.

And although they were called ”departments,” their membership and organizational structure were actually very streamlined—after stripping away the redundant parts, there were not only just three departments, but each department only needed five or six people.

These members reported directly to the Regional Director and the Inspector, following orders from headquarters.

The Organization Department handled personnel transfers and file management; the Finance Department handled items and money.

The External Affairs Department was responsible for communication with other organizations and Aftermath Handling.

Everything else was still left to the autonomous management of each team.

Therefore, the office was truly just an office within an office building.

After pushing open the door, Lin Yu saw a very simple, plain office—three desks pushed together, with three computers on them, plus three bored Order members on duty; that was everything inside the office.
This could be considered an invisible benefit of joining the Order—you could even get a formal or part-time job where you could just coast along and wait to die.

After all, this place was genuinely rented under the name of a company.

After arriving here, the three clerks were also very surprised to see Lin Yu.

”Assistant Team Leader May May, what brings you here!”

Lin Yu nodded: ”Isnʼt it because Iʼm newly appointed as assistant team leader? So I wanted to learn about my team members and the other squads in Jiangcheng. With my privileges, I should be able to access some public files and information, right?”

As Lin Yu spoke, the clerk from the Organization Department stood up and nodded: ”Of course, Team Leader Lin, you didnʼt need to make a special trip, just a message on WeChat would have been enough—weʼre all in the work group chat.”

Lin Yu shook his head: ”I still wanted to check in person. There should be paper files, right?”

The clerk nodded.

”There are... Iʼll get them for you right now.”

The clerk stood up, then took out a key and retrieved a large stack of folders from a locked cabinet nearby.

”These are all the publicly accessible files for the current Order members at the Jiangcheng branch. Team Leader Lin, with your privileges, you can freely browse these.”

As the clerk spoke, Lin Yu nodded, then began looking through these files.

Information on all 52 Order members in Jiangcheng was included, many of whom Lin Yu had already met during previous operations.

Especially the several team leaders and assistant team leaders; this was also the first time Lin Yu learned about their strength and Class.

Besides Good Night being Third Tier, the other two team leaders, plus the assistant team leader of Team Two, were all Second Tier, with their Classes being Postman, Official, and Policeman respectively.

The team leader of Team Three, like himself on the surface, was First Tier, with the Class of Referee.

Lin Yu quickly skimmed through them, soon memorizing the Classes of all Order members.

Afterwards, he returned the files.

”Alright, Iʼve finished looking.”

As Lin Yu spoke, the clerk didnʼt inquire further about his purpose for doing this.

And after finishing the files, Lin Yu couldnʼt help but sigh...

”No wonder Li Hua wants to investigate the Order internally...”

Previously, when he asked Good Night for information, the other party agreed so readily, which gave Lin Yu the idea to come check the files himself.

Lin Yuʼs purpose in looking at these files was to search for clues about the mole—unexpectedly, although he didnʼt spot anything suspicious from the files, he instead discovered something off about the regulations from the bylaws.

His own privileges as an assistant team leader were this extensive; if anyone within this organization became corrupted or fallen, it could indeed cause very damaging effects.

And just as Lin Yu returned all the files, the office door opened again.

”Shit, so you bastard came to Jiangcheng and didnʼt even say a word, you make me look like a real asshole!”

Before seeing the person, the curses came first. Lin Yu turned his head and saw Good Night, wearing a baseball cap and looking like a hoodlum, walking into the office arm-in-arm with someone.

And the person Good Night had his arm around was someone Lin Yu had just parted from not long ago—naturally, it was the newly arrived Paper Kite.

The two of them looked at Lin Yu inside the office, both somewhat surprised.

Lin Yu was also surprised and looked at Good Night: ”Captain, what are you doing here?”

Good Night pointed at Paper Kite beside him.

”For some reason, this guy suddenly got transferred to the Central China Region. Starting today, heʼs our colleague,” Good Night said. ”Iʼm here to help him fill out forms and submit his file.”

”And you, kid, why are you here?”

Lin Yu inclined his head: ”I came to check some files to facilitate future work.”

Paper Kite looked at Lin Yu, also quite surprised: ”I thought youʼd need to handle things at home and calm your emotions, but youʼre already fine?”

Lin Yu nodded: ”Yes... thanks to you, Iʼm not really affected.”

Good Night looked surprised: ”You two met first? Shit, Paper Kite, why did you meet him before meeting me? Thatʼs not the right procedure, is it? And it sounds like you guys went through something together?”

”Li Hua asked me to deliver something to him.”

Paper Kite used Li Hua as a legitimate reason.

And Lin Yu answered Good Nightʼs latter question: ”I was attacked by Twenty, but with Paper Kiteʼs help, it was resolved.”

Good Nightʼs expression changed slightly: ”Such a big deal, why didnʼt you tell me?”

”He reported it directly to Li Hua, since this matter might be related to Comrade Li Hua,” Paper Kite added. ”We didnʼt intentionally hide it from you. Actually, to put it simply—Twenty died in the last dungeon, transformed into a Nightmare through a contingency plan he had set up, and returned to reality. And why his first action after returning was to run to May Mayʼs home to attack him... But a fortunate yet strange thing is, I barely even took action, and that guy just died on his own—in my opinion, his main body probably encountered some mishap in the Night Valley Realm.”

Paper Kite summarized the course of events. Good Night listened, his expression changing.

”I havenʼt been in this position long, how did such a major event happen—and I didnʼt even know about it.”

He pulled Lin Yu to the other side of the office: ”What the hell is going on, why did Twenty suddenly target you? Could it be related to what Li Hua asked you to do?”

”What exactly does that guy Li Hua want you to do?”

Good Night said indignantly.

Lin Yu looked at Good Night and casually said: ”Oh, Li Hua asked me to investigate the mole within the Order.”

He said it casually, as if mentioning something utterly ordinary.

But upon hearing this, Good Night froze, then his expression drastically changed.

”Shit... why are you telling me something so important?”

”Didnʼt you ask?”

”Then you should have warned me first!”
