Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 545: Playing Dead

Upon hearing Lin Yuʼs words, the Fairy Queen laughed.

”Hah, are you implying Iʼm not being open enough...”

Lin Yu nodded. ”Of course.”

”What a shame. You must understand, if I were to reveal myself for the things I do, Iʼd be devoured and cleaned out in no time,” the Fairy Queen said, her tone actually sounding like she was feigning weakness and acting coy. ”So... have some sympathy for me. Making a living in Sleepless City is tough, you know.”

Hearing her say this, Lin Yu sighed. ”Making a living? Just the abilities youʼve displayed so far are hardly just about scraping by, are they?”

”Even if you revealed your true face, how many people could actually find and threaten you?”

The Fairy Queen laughed again.

”Hehehe, I accept your compliment... but things arenʼt that simple.”

She continued nonchalantly. ”I thought you would understand me, after all... arenʼt you also hiding your true self, Mr. Furbollo.”

”What an excellent disguise, even I cannot see through it. In that sense, Mr. Furbollo, your level of existence is objectively higher than others.”
Lin Yu was not surprised by the Fairy Queenʼs words.

As expected... this person is on the same level as the Sleepless Night Family Head.

Although she canʼt see through my disguise, she can still tell Iʼm using one and concealing myself.

However, it was precisely this statement that made Lin Yu realize...

She still doesnʼt know enough.

At the very least, her words just now revealed one thing—she doesnʼt think Iʼm impersonating Furbollo, she just believes I *am* ”Furbollo,” and that ”Furbollo” has always been hiding his true self.

Lin Yu naturally had no intention of clearing up this misunderstanding.

He leaned back slightly in his seat. ”I accept your compliment as well.”

”Letʼs set aside these mutual flatteries, Furbollo. Letʼs return to the C-77 commission... I said I would provide you with assistance, so next, Iʼm going to tell you a piece of information that will absolutely be useful to you.”

”After the banquet begins, when the bell rings for the second time, there will be a disturbance lasting about three minutes—enough time for you to do anything.”

”You can use this... or, you can leak this information.”

As the Fairy Queen spoke, Lin Yu was quite surprised.

Not just because she actually provided ”substantive” help right away, but more importantly... the content.

Her words meant she was absolutely certain that at the Sleepless Night Family, at Sleepless Sky Huoxingʼs Coming-of-Age Ceremony, a disturbance that would throw the situation into chaos would occur precisely on schedule.

Lin Yu thought for a moment. ”Did you orchestrate this?”

”Of course.”

The Fairy Queen responded.

”You seem even more formidable than I imagined, to have the ability to directly meddle in a Peerage Nobleʼs banquet.”

As Lin Yu spoke, the Fairy Queenʼs speaker crackled again. ”Hah, trying to fish for information again, are you? You seem very interested in my identity.”

”Of course... Itʼs only human to be curious, isnʼt it? After all, the stakes are high.”

”Iʼve been investigating the C-77 commission for the same reason. After all... I really want to know who issued the commission.”

Hearing Lin Yuʼs words, the Fairy Queen promptly replied. ”Thatʼs probably difficult to know before the commission is completed... However, I suspect the moment the commission is completed, that client will appear.”

”After all, the pressure one faces for issuing this commission is far more dangerous than being the ʼUnderground Kingʼ in Gray Three Streets. Fortunately, the content of this commission is still relatively secret, known only to a very few... wouldnʼt you agree, Furbollo?”

Lin Yu nodded impassively. ”Yes, it would be troublesome if word got out.”

”So, you killed three middlemen and deliberately let Black Snake escape, intending for him to leak the information, right?”

The Fairy Queen asked abruptly.

The atmosphere, which had seemed like a cooperative negotiation, instantly turned somewhat icy. The desk lamp on the table flickered on and off a few times as if on cue, like a silent warning.

Lin Yu calmly and leisurely reached out and patted the desk lamp.

”Bad connection, huh.”

He said, then looked at the Fairy Queen and steered the conversation back. ”So... I didnʼt kill those three middlemen. You must have misjudged.”

”Black Snakeʼs disappearance has nothing to do with me either.”

The conversation seemed to have returned to its starting point.

The Fairy Queen didnʼt speak, clearly dissatisfied with Lin Yuʼs act of playing dumb.

But Lin Yu certainly didnʼt plan to just muddle through by playing dumb.

”And besides, even if word gets out, it wonʼt affect the completion of the commission... On the contrary, itʼs precisely because the information is leaked that I have a way to ensure the commission proceeds smoothly.”

Hearing Lin Yu say this, the Fairy Queen finally relented. ”Based on what?”

”Based on this face, this ʼFurbolloʼ face.”

Lin Yu pointed at his own face as he spoke.

”No matter how much Sleepless Sky Huole and the Sleepless Night Family Head trust you, even I can sense that you seem intricately connected to this commission, as if youʼre plotting something. If the content of this commission were truly exposed... the hounds raised by those Peerage Nobles would surely catch your scent in the shortest time possible.”

”Almost every major event in Sleepless City these past few days has focused on you. Youʼve become a star, a focal point of attention... Furbollo. With such intense scrutiny, whatever your plan is, do you really have the confidence to deceive the entire Sleepless City watching you?”

The Fairy Queen analyzed.

Lin Yu nodded. ”Thatʼs just a necessary part of the process.”

The Fairy Queen fell silent for a long while. ”Alright, Furbollo, Iʼll tentatively believe you...”

”However, I still have some personal curiosity to satisfy. Besides the matters of Wan Jin Tian Zuo and the White Jade Pavilion in the Sky, thereʼs another rumor thatʼs just started circulating, one with a slightly different flavor, that also has me quite intrigued.”

”I heard you plan to pursue Sleepless Sky Huoxing, and this news even came from Sleepless Sky Huole herself.”

The Fairy Queen asked seriously and with a gossipy tone.

”Why do you want to ask about this?”

Lin Yu interlaced his fingers.

”Gossip is human nature. Just because Iʼm a damp, shadowy character hiding in dark corners manipulating corpses to converse, does that mean I canʼt be curious about these romantic tidbits?”

The Fairy Queen said earnestly.

”Iʼve said it before, we are not mutually trusting friends. So I can refuse to answer these questions.”

As Lin Yu spoke, he looked through the lamplight at the beautiful face of the corpse.

”However, if you were a bit more open and stopped playing dead, perhaps we could chat, Your Excellency, the respected Sleepless Sky Huoxing.”

The girlʼs corpse remained motionless. After a long while, a long sigh came from the speaker.

”Sigh... I knew it...”

”... Trying to deceive a ʼDetectiveʼ like you is no easy task.”

The latter half of the sentence was spoken from the beautiful corpseʼs own mouth.
