Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 482: A Real Tough Customer

According to Stillerʼs explanation, on Gold Rush Street, these middlemen and the locations where commissions are posted often exchange information and communicate with each other.

Although theyʼre all engaged in illegal activities and post non-compliant commissions, long-standing conventions have formed their own set of rules for Gold Rush Street.

Over time, these commissions even developed a unified numbering system!

The number at the end represents the order of posting, and they are re-sorted every month—if a commission from the previous month remains uncompleted, it will retain its original number.

If a task remains uncompleted for six months, as long as the client doesnʼt ”renew the fee” paid to the middleman, the commission will be cancelled.

As for the letter at the front... it represents the type of commission.

A represents protection, guard, and escort-type tasks, essentially working as bodyguards or security guards.

B represents infiltration, investigation, and theft-type tasks, doing the kind of work hackers or thieves handle.

C represents... assassination, assault, and sabotage, often requiring a certain level of direct combat capability to handle.

Besides these, there are also D-type commissions, usually composite-type commissions or types that are difficult to define.
Therefore, Lin Yu still needed to inquire about the content of these ”troublesome” tasks.

Having two reference points would also make it easier to gauge the level of his own commission.

Hearing Lin Yuʼs request, Shark Shock pondered briefly before speaking.

”The content of commission C-35 is to destroy two outpost bases established by the Divine Power Group outside the city walls. Although the location is within the Great Wasteland, the straight-line distance to the city walls is only two kilometers, so the Divine Power Group can respond very quickly. Thatʼs why no one dares to take it.”

Lin Yu nodded slightly. ”Having to carry out a mission in the Great Wasteland while also opposing the Divine Power Group is indeed a troublesome task, but... itʼs just that.”

He commented casually. Shark Shock then introduced the next task.

”The content of commission A-06 is to protect the butler of the third son of the Saint-Lan family from assassination when the Saint-Lan family council convenes one week from now.”

”This one is a bit interesting,” Lin Yu continued to pretend he understood everything, commenting, ”But Iʼm not good at protection, so next one.”

In truth, he had no idea what this task was about.

The Saint-Lan family seemed to be one of the five great noble families...

But why would a butler belonging to the third son of this family even need protection from assassination?

And what exactly is a family council?

However, Lin Yuʼs posture of knowing everything didnʼt reveal the slightest crack.

Shark Shock continued his introduction.

”Then that leaves C-77... The requirement for this task is to infiltrate the inner city and assassinate a senior executive of one of the three major corporations, with a rank of A-2. It may require infiltrating the headquarters of one of those three companies.”

Hearing Shark Shockʼs suddenly vague description of this task, Lin Yu immediately understood.

This C-77 commission, selected to become his ”clearance condition,” was indeed not that simple!

Fortunately, he had asked a few more questions and had the previous two for comparison to notice this point.

After all...

For the C-35 and A-06 tasks, after hearing Shark Shockʼs current introductions, Lin Yu could turn around and leave right now to go complete his own task.

But C-77 was different.

”Chances are, this C-77 has a trap...”

Thinking this, Lin Yu took the initiative to probe.

He furrowed his brows as if displeased and spoke.

”Why is this task so vague?”

Shark Shock rubbed his nose. ”Well... thatʼs how it was when the middleman sent it to me.”

”It seems the employer for this task is a bit odd themselves.”

”However, the reward for C-77... is very high!”

”C-35 has a 6,000-point reward, A-06 is 11,500 points plus commission...”

”And C-77 has a guaranteed base of 50,000 points!”

Shark Shock hurriedly explained.

Lin Yu was quite astonished.

”Fifty thousand points?”

Sleepless City has two types of common currency. One is the common currency ”City-State Coin,” issued in the name of the cityʼs largely ornamental parliament by the nobles, with the unit being Yuan.

The other is the asset points used by the three giant corporations for quick transfers, payments, and capital verification among themselves. Essentially, itʼs a quantification of the ”assets” of Sleepless Cityʼs upper echelons and nobles. Asset points can represent luxury goods, real estate shops, technology, even patents.

The latter ”asset points,” due to their convenience and anonymity, gradually became a ”gold”-like hard currency. Anyone of status and reputation would hold this kind of ”currency.”

The purchasing power of fifty thousand asset points, when converted based on Sleepless Cityʼs actual conditions, can be directly viewed as five million.

Both are C-category commissions, yet C-77ʼs reward is nearly ten times that of C-35!

In other words, excluding the possibility that the C-77 client is exceptionally wealthy, the actual difficulty of this task might be around five times that of C-35.

And to blow up two Divine Power Group outpost bases and retreat unscathed would mean taking on two full squads stationed at the outposts and destroying outpost-level defense equipment—all of which must be completed within 15 minutes.

One minute late, and youʼd be blocked there by experts from the Divine Power Group.

Lin Yu calculated; converted to player standards, this was probably an operation only a ʼThird Tierʼ could accomplish.

”Because I killed a ʼThird Tierʼ in the last [dungeon], has the game already judged me to be at a ʼThird Tierʼ level?”

”This is really a headache. That last time took so much effort to set up.”

Lin Yu sighed silently in his heart.

However, fortunately, this time in Sleepless City, his setup time and conditions were also quite ample.

The 『Personal Trial Dungeon』 had already opened, and the C-77 commission couldnʼt be ignored.

After pondering for a moment, Lin Yu spoke.

”I understand. So, if I want to take the C-77 commission, what do I need to do?”

Shark Shock looked at Lin Yu, seemingly not surprised by his choice.

”The middleman who posted the C-77 commission with me is ʼBlack Snake.ʼ You can go find him to learn more details and undergo the assessment. Just say Shark Shock referred you.”

This was the normal process—Lin Yu finds commission information through these restaurant and bar venues, then goes to the middleman and gives his name.

The middleman is responsible for assessing the people who come, then introducing qualified mercenaries to the employer.

This way, the employer pays the reward to the middleman, and the middleman then pays the reward to these restaurants and bars.

However, this time the process was a bit unusual.

Shark Shock paused, then added, ”Or, if youʼre quite confident, Black Snake gave me a business card back then. You can directly call that number.”

”Although Black Snake said to give it only when I see a real tough customer, but you, sir, donʼt seem like a simple character. You probably fit his definition of a ʼreal tough customer.ʼ”
