Chapter 164: He Is Wangxinʼs Demon, and Also Wangxinʼs Buddha

Early in the morning, several officials from the Zhou Kingdomʼs court arrived at the entrance of Hundred Lanterns Temple on Illustrious Sky Mountain.

The young novice monks guarding the temple entrance saw the Zhou Kingdom court officials arrive and hurriedly went inside to notify their abbot.

Before long, Hundred Lanterns Templeʼs Abbot Huiming walked out, putting his hands together in salute, ”This old monk greets all the distinguished lords. We were remiss in welcoming you from afar, please forgive us, lords.”

Minister of Rites Yan Zhen quickly led his subordinates in returning the courtesy, ”Master Huiming is too polite. We are the ones troubling your esteemed temple, how could we dare ask the master to apologize?”

Yan Zhen couldnʼt help but glance toward the interior of the temple, ”We just wonder if Master Wangxin is available today?”

Huiming smiled, ”Since we have already made arrangements with you all, my senior sister will naturally make time. Please follow me, distinguished lords.”

”Then weʼll trouble you.” Yan Zhen breathed a sigh of relief and respectfully followed Huiming into the temple.

For the Zhou Kingdomʼs court, this Master Huiming was not only a Golden Core realm cultivator, but more importantly, he was also a disciple of the abbot of the Western Regionʼs premier Buddhist temple, Leiyou Temple.

Even though his cultivation was not outstanding among that abbotʼs many disciples, this transcendent status alone surpassed countless people.

Huiming led everyone to Hundred Lanterns Templeʼs main hall.
The first thing everyone saw was a young girl in monkʼs robes kneeling on a prayer cushion.

The girl sat with perfect posture, thousands of black silk strands cascading down her shoulders like a waterfall, reaching just to the girlʼs slender waist.

A ray of morning sunlight shone into the main hall, falling on the golden Buddha statue and bordering the girlʼs monk robes.

The girl was reciting Buddhist scriptures before the Buddha.

The Buddha looked down at her.

This scene was like a painting, utterly sacred.

Yan Zhen and the others even unconsciously slowed their breathing, afraid of disturbing the girl.

Beside the girl, a round creature with wings that looked like a dumpling appeared to be sleeping.

”Senior sister, Minister Yan from the Zhou Kingdomʼs Ministry of Rites has arrived.”

Huiming put his hands together and spoke to the girl.

The girlʼs long eyelashes trembled gently, and her eyes slowly opened.

The girl stood up from the prayer cushion, turned around, and put her hands together to salute everyone, ”Wangxin greets all the distinguished lords.”

”Greetings, Master Wangxin.”

Yan Zhen came to his senses and quickly returned the salute.

When everyone saw the girlʼs appearance, their minds were all stunned.

Under the girlʼs curved and upturned eyelashes, those black transparent eyes were like agate, her cold white skin without the slightest flaw, like silk made from white snow.

Below her delicate nose, her cherry lips formed a point. Her thin, pale pink lips pressed together lightly, as if containing the entire autumn within them.

The girlʼs appearance was extremely beautiful, but it was difficult for people to harbor evil thoughts.

It seemed that having even the slightest improper thought would make one feel guilty and ashamed. That sense of sanctity was perfectly embodied in this woman, not allowing even the slightest defilement.

However, Yan Zhen and the others looked into her eyes for less than a moment before unconsciously averting their gazes, as if her eyes could see through everything.

All their thoughts had nowhere to hide before the girl.

”There are only thirty days until His Majestyʼs wedding ceremony. According to our Zhou Kingdomʼs rites, we must trouble Master Wangxin to go to the imperial capitalʼs Heaven Worship Platform daily from today to recite scriptures for one hour. Moreover, thirty days from now when His Majesty marries, there are some wedding matters that may require the young lady to understand.”

Yan Zhen spoke politely.

Wangxin nodded, ”This monk understands. Iʼll trouble you all to lead the way.”

”Please, Master Wangxin.” Yan Zhen quickly stepped aside to clear the path, making a ”please” gesture.

After leaving the temple, Wangxin sat alone in a carriage.

Yan Zhen and the other officials rode in another carriage, and their carriage went first, which according to Zhou Kingdom etiquette, showed extremely high-level treatment for Wangxin.

After arriving at the Heaven Worship Platform, Yan Zhen respectfully explained the Zhou Kingdomʼs ceremonies to Wangxin.

Such as what time to recite which scriptures, and for how long.

What to do in the ten days before the wedding ceremony.

What to do on the day of the wedding ceremony, and so on.

Wangxin naturally remembered everything Yan Zhen said.

”Then we wonʼt trouble Master Wangxin further.” Yan Zhen put his hands together in salute, ”Every day at the hour of mao, a carriage will go to Hundred Lanterns Temple to receive the master. After the master finishes reciting scriptures, our people will also escort you back.”

”Good.” Wangxin nodded, turned around, faced the Heaven Worship Platform, knelt on the prayer cushion, and prepared to recite scriptures.

Yan Zhen and the others didnʼt dare disturb her further and left after bowing.

”Minister Yan, is this Master Wangxin the legendary Wonderful Lotus Saintess?” Vice Minister of Rites Wang Qi asked, looking back twice more.

Another official named Zhou Lu also said, ”Iʼve heard that this Wonderful Lotus Saintess was born with a Seven-Aperture Exquisite Heart, able to perceive a personʼs joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, and can even sense othersʼ true thoughts.”

Wang Qi couldnʼt help but gasp, ”I hope I didnʼt have any disrespectful thoughts just now?”

”Whether you did or not, I donʼt know, but I very much respect Master Wangxin.” Zhou Lu smiled, ”However, I heard that this Master Wangxin, a thousand years ago, once had dealings with a demonic sectʼs Holy Son from the Western Region...”

”Enough, enough.” Yan Zhen waved his hand, interrupting the otherʼs words, ”Master Wangxin being able to pray for His Majestyʼs blessings is truly rare and is our Zhou Kingdomʼs fortune. You must not gossip about others behind their backs. From now on, those responsible for receiving Master Wangxin should all be selected from refined ladies among the court ministers to avoid any impropriety, understand?”

”Yes, my lord.”

Yan Zhen adjusted his sleeves and looked toward the palace, ”This wedding ceremony of His Majestyʼs is extremely important, there absolutely cannot be the slightest mistake!”

…

Western Region, Leiyou Temple.

In the temple, an old monk was sweeping the courtyard with a broom.

”Master.” Huijue walked to the old monkʼs side and bowed in salute.

”Mm.” The Leiyou Templeʼs abbot named Xujing nodded, ”Is there any news from Wangxin?”

”Replying to master, junior sister should have sent a letter this time saying she wonʼt trust you anymore, saying that you, old master, always deceive people.” Huijue reported truthfully.

”Hehehe, it seems that after deceiving her three or four times, this little one has gotten smart too.” Xujing smiled, ”If she wonʼt come back, then so be it. Letʼs wait. When she wants to come back, she will come back.”

”Besides junior sister, that sect master of Ten Thousand Dao Sect is also looking for her senior brother. I heard that Ten Thousand Dao Sect has already made some progress.”

Thinking of everything that happened a thousand years ago, Huijue couldnʼt help but sigh.

”If possible, this disciple still doesnʼt hope Wangxin finds him. He is Wangxinʼs demon.”

Xujing shook his head, ”For Wangxin, he is indeed a demon, but Huijue, is he really only Wangxinʼs demon?”

Huijue frowned.

Xujing straightened up, holding the broom with both hands and looking into the distance.

”He... is Wangxinʼs demon and also Wangxinʼs Buddha.”
