I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

Dream Come True Entertainment City, 3rd Floor, Private Room.

Nan Hao stood by the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the entire hall, holding two or three sheets of paper, repeatedly flipping through them.

The documents were just delivered by a bunny girl, recording the results of his friend’s investigation into those two con artists.

Within the Dream Come True Entertainment City, there’s no background that can’t be investigated; if there is, it’s either a matter of time or money.

After the previous investigation yielded no results, Nan Hao spent a hefty sum to have his friend continue the investigation, and after a long wait, he finally received reliable information.

Such time and money-consuming investigations are not meaningless. Some cheaters may look unremarkable, but their backgrounds can be intimidatingly deep. If the methods used against them are too aggressive, it might bring greater losses to the Entertainment City.

After carefully reviewing the contents of the documents, he raised his eyebrows slightly and muttered to himself, “Interesting, is it the Miracle Order?”

“It seems like they might have some big moves coming up, reaching out to us for funds.”

The Miracle Order, once a notorious cult organization on par with the Eclipse Society.

However, although their sphere of influence was once comparable to the Eclipse Society, they were quite different. As a group of lunatics worshiping decaying deities, their weaknesses were far more apparent than those of the Eclipse Society.A few years ago, during a large-scale siege by The Midnight Watchers Society against the Miracle Order, a catastrophe-class operator killed the deity they worshiped, and since then, there hasn’t been much news about them.

Devotees who lose their belief target are no different from the blind, aren’t they?

However, according to the documents Nan Hao received, in recent months, the Miracle Order, which had originally vanished, has reappeared.

Not only in Dream Come True Entertainment City, but they also seem to be gathering resources on a large scale in places beyond the reach of The Midnight Watchers Society’s influence, clearly plotting something.

Nan Hao tossed the documents aside, paced to the desk, sat down, stretched lazily, and took a large sip of the strong coffee on the table.

He wasn’t too worried about the Miracle Order causing trouble within the Entertainment City; with the Big Boss around, even if all current members of the Miracle Order appeared together, they wouldn’t be able to stir up much trouble.

His only concern was how to prevent those two con artists from taking more chips from the Entertainment City.

“Tap, tap, tap-”

The soft sound of high heels hitting the floor came, and a bunny girl pushed the door open, placing a thick stack of documents in front of Nan Hao.

Seeing the documents several times thicker than before, he was taken aback and quickly called out to the bunny girl, “Wait, wait, what’s this?”

The bunny girl tilted her head in confusion, “Didn’t you ask me to find your friend and bring back information about that Wang Buliuxing girl?”

“You mean this is Wang Buliuxing’s information?” Nan Hao pointed at the thick stack of papers on the table and asked.

“Yes!”

“…” Nan Hao silently picked up the documents, gave them a gentle shake, and the folded papers unfolded with a “whoosh,” stretching out long in front of him.

“King of Hauntings of Hua City… Plague Taisui’s nemesis… Tormentor of the Hua City… Holder of legendary psychic artifacts… Honored member of the haunting chat group…”

Reading through a long list of titles, Nan Hao didn’t even have time to look at the detailed explanations below before feeling a headache.

Although these titles might not be particularly eye-catching individually, appearing all at once on a single haunting was somewhat exaggerated.

This person is really something, Nan Hao thought.

As he pondered, his sidekick Le Er rushed in from outside, shouting as soon as he entered the elegant room, “Boss, you really have foresight!”

“Boss, how can that girl look younger than me and still be so formidable?”

“I just went to inquire, and she already took down those two con artists. I heard she even extorted some chips from them, truly satisfying!”

Nan Hao put down the documents, responding calmly, “Oh, I see.”

Le Er scratched the back of his head, puzzled, “Boss, why do I feel like you’re not surprised?”

“…” Nan Hao glanced at the documents on the table, remaining silent.

If you’d seen these documents earlier, you wouldn’t be surprised either.

That person is a master at causing trouble; taking down two Miracle Order pests is a breeze.

However…

As he thought, Nan Hao furrowed his brow slightly.

Such a haunting, what can’t they obtain through their own means?

Shouldn’t need to worry about her being greedy for money, right?

Her purpose for coming to the Entertainment City, if not purely for fun, must be to fulfill some difficult wish, requiring the Big Boss’s intervention.

Middle three floors hall, a certain Mahjong room.

Lu Yibei sat at the seat facing the door, with Ah-Hua and Liu Seer sitting on either side of her, the Mahjong tiles neatly arranged on the table.

Soon, the door opened, and someone, led by a bunny girl, entered the room.

Upon closer inspection, the newcomer was the mature woman Lu Yibei had previously observed, who used the Five Ghosts Fortune method to cheat.

As the woman entered, Lu Yibei gestured invitingly, expressionless, “Please sit, shall we begin?”

The woman cautiously sat opposite Lu Yibei, took a deep breath, and calmly said, “Tell me, how much do you want for you to turn a blind eye?”

“What do you mean how much? I don’t understand,” Lu Yibei replied nonchalantly, “Sister, let’s not be so vulgar!”

“Why don’t we play cards first? If I’m lucky and win some chips, it should be quite enjoyable.”

“Go ahead, you’re the banker for this round, roll the dice?”

The woman, “…”

Before entering, she had already inquired through her friend’s friend that this dark lamp, although accepting bribes, wouldn’t directly demand them; it’s all won through card games.

Upon careful thought, this seemed reasonable. Direct extortion would inevitably leave evidence, and only through this method could suspicion from the Entertainment City be avoided.

In fact, some curious individuals had specifically inquired about the middle-aged man who had interacted with Lu Yibei in the central hall.

They found out that she hadn’t accepted the middle-aged man’s chips directly but had received them through losing cards in three consecutive gambling games.

After a brief contemplation, the mature woman understood, estimated the number of chips she wanted to send, and rolled the dice, starting the game.

And so, a hellish scene unfolded before her eyes.

A few minutes later.

The mature woman left the Mahjong room on the third floor and returned to the middle three floors of the hall, supporting herself against the wall as she descended the stairs. Her unfocused pupils, pale complexion, and sweat-drenched appearance immediately drew countless scrutinizing glances. Some of these glances were gloating, others contemplative, each with its own story.

Moments later, someone who knew the mature woman couldn’t resist their curiosity and approached her, whispering, “Second Sister, what happened to you?”

The mature woman turned her face away, one hand on the wall, waving her hand dismissively, “It’s better not to mention it, better not to mention it…”

The inquirer felt a twinge of concern, furrowing their brows as they assessed her from head to toe. “Could it be that the dark lamp not only extorts chips but also takes advantage of pretty girls?”

“Isn’t that going too far? Such a lovely girl, how could this happen?”

“Ah-! If only it were that simple!” the mature woman sighed deeply, her delicate face lifting in a look of utter despair as she gazed at the crystal chandelier on the ceiling.

Staring at the dazzling, dreamlike light, she recalled her experience in that room, her body involuntarily shivering.

Lu Yibei’s luck was truly terrible; others only demanded money, but she demanded life.

The mature woman never imagined that one day she would find it so difficult to lose chips to a person or a haunting. The process of feeding the cards left her mentally exhausted, terrified of making a wrong move and accidentally winning chips from Lu Yibei.

In the past few minutes, the entire process could only be described as excruciatingly painful. Just recalling it made her shiver uncontrollably.

As Ah-Hua had said, every guest on the middle three floors was using special means to win money.

So, after the rumors about Lu Yibei spread, more than half of the guests unconsciously restrained themselves while employing their tricks, and nearly all of them considered bribing her.

Although not all the guests who thought of bribing went to that Mahjong room to find Lu Yibei, even if only seventy to eighty percent did, she still amassed a mountain of chips.

An hour later.

Seeing that the guests coming to bribe her were gradually decreasing, Lu Yibei counted the chips and announced to Ah-Hua and Liu Seer that it was time to wrap up.

“Folks, we’ve collected a total of 2,657,000 chips this time. As agreed, we’ll split it 30-70, rounding off the numbers. Liu Seer gets 800,000, and we can pretty much call it a day, right?”

“Do either of you have anything to say?”

After speaking, Lu Yibei glanced at Liu Seer and Ah-Hua, casting an inquiring look.

Ah-Hua shook her head.

She was eager to head to the upper three floors to find Jiang Li and had no other opinions. Besides, the chips were earned thanks to Lu Yibei’s idea, so she didn’t want to interfere too much.

“Nothing else to say.” Liu Seer chuckled as he pocketed the large-denomination chips Lu Yibei had counted out. “Even if you hadn’t brought it up, I was about to bow out.”

“Staying any longer might cause trouble, and you think so too, right?”

Lu Yibei nodded at Liu Seer with a blank expression.

Indeed, extorting chips this way was much faster than winning them through games, but it also carried significant risks.

If Entertainment City discovered someone impersonating their dark lamp, they’d likely be captured, wouldn’t they?

Knowing when to stop prevents being caught, and leaving after the task is the way to go.

Lu Yibei thought as she swept all the chips into the guitar case, looked around at Liu Seer and Ah-Hua, and her gaze sharpened.

“Then… let’s head to the upper three floors!”

After Lu Yibei found a bunny girl, confirmed the accumulated chips, and gained access to the upper three floors, she left.

In the elegant room on the third floor of the middle three floors.

“Thump, thump, thump-!”

A series of hurried footsteps approached from outside, and Le Er burst in, panting, his eyes searching the room until he found Nan Hao. He opened his mouth and shouted.

“Boss, something terrible has happened, something big! That Wang Buliuxing, she… she…”

Nan Hao glared at Le Er, his voice deep, “What are you babbling about? Speak clearly!”

“Gulp-!” Le Er propped his hands on the table, swallowed, calmed his breath, and continued, “She extorted over two million chips from the guests!”

“Bang-!”

“What?!” Nan Hao’s expression changed, and he slammed the table, his voice cold, “Say that again, what did she do?”

“She pretended to be one of our dark lamps, extorted over two million chips from the guests, and then took the chips to the upper three floors…”

Upon hearing this, Nan Hao’s heart sank.

He had thought Lu Yibei and Jiang Li were allies, good people who could help lighten the dark lamps’ workload. Who knew that once his back was turned, Lu Yibei would become a life-threatening specter?

After a brief contemplation, Nan Hao asked, “Tell me in detail, how did you find out she extorted those guests? Did someone report her?”

“No one reported her.” Le Er shook his head, “But the rumors have spread, and now all the guests on the middle three floors know that one of our dark lamps turned traitor, accepting bribes and allowing cheating.”

“Oh?” Nan Hao was momentarily stunned, then suddenly recalled something, a playful smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

It seems that while she’s not a good person, she inadvertently helped us quite a bit! Nan Hao mused.

Seeing Nan Hao silent, Le Er pressed, “Boss, what do we do now? Should we go to the upper three floors to bring her back?”

Nan Hao glared at Le Er, his voice cold, “Bring her back? With what reason? How would you bring her back?”

“Did anyone report her?”

Le Er shook his head.

“Do you have any evidence that she extorted the guests?” Nan Hao continued to ask.

“…” Le Er thought for a moment, his brows furrowed, “No, on the surface, the chips were won by her through games from the guests.”

“Then that’s settled.” Nan Hao rolled his eyes, “What you have are just rumors, what grounds do you have to arrest her?”

Le Er was momentarily stunned, feeling aggrieved, “So we’re just going to let her go?”

“Let her go? Are you that idle?”

Nan Hao said as he paced to the floor-to-ceiling window in the elegant room, standing in front of it, looking out into the hall, squinting slightly, and said softly, “Soon, we’ll be very busy.”

Thus, after Lu Yibei left, those who thought they could bribe the dark lamps and act with impunity found themselves caught off guard when the dark lamps on the middle three floors sprang into action…

Some people left, but the pain they left behind continued to spread.

In just one night, over forty unsuspecting cheaters were caught, surpassing the usual half-month tally.

That night, many people and hauntings remembered the name Wang Buliuxing and added her to the black list.
