Chapter 890: Chapter 889: Father Yang is in Trouble (3 updates)

Han Xue’er knew that Yang Hong was still somewhat shy and did not make things explicit, only suggesting that Yang Hong take a rest.

However, Yang Hong refused to do so. She was now the lobby manager at the Medicinal Cuisine Shop. She knew that with her qualifications, her easy acquisition of this position must have something to do with Ye Haochuan.

She did not want to owe Ye Haochuan too much; the only way to repay him now was to work hard, to show him that appointing her to this position was worth it, nothing more!

Seeing that Yang Hong was insistent on not resting, Han Xue’er felt it inappropriate to persuade her further and started to chat with her instead.

”Sister Yang, I have told you many times, just call me Han Xue’er. Always calling me President Han creates distance!” Han Xue’er chided playfully.

”That wouldn’t be right, after all, this is the company!” Yang Hong said sheepishly.

”What’s wrong with that? Did you know? I was just a little nurse before, and if it weren’t for him, I would still be taking care of patients in the hospital right now. So, don’t think I am so high and mighty, I am just like you,” Han Xue’er said with a smile brimming with warmth.

”Alright then, from now on I will call you Han Xue’er. But in the company, I still have to call you President Han, otherwise, where will your prestige be!” Yang Hong finally relaxed and smiled.

Han Xue’er was also delighted and took Yang Hong’s hand naturally, the two chatting like close girlfriends.

Indeed, Han Xue’er and Yang Hong had a lot in common, both hailing from the countryside. Before meeting Ye Haochuan, both had been struggling alone in the big city.

It could only be said that Han Xue’er met Ye Haochuan earlier, and therefore got to enjoy the good life sooner. This made Yang Hong think that there was a big gap between them.

Just as they were deeply engaged in their conversation, Yang Hong’s phone suddenly rang.

Yang Hong saw that it was a call from her father, and without any hesitation, she quickly picked up.

”Is this Yang Hong? Your father has had an accident...” from the other end of the line, came the voice of a middle-aged man.

”What happened to my father?” Yang Hong’s heart skipped a beat, asking anxiously.

”He was beaten up, and he refuses to let me call an ambulance for him, so I can only call you!”

”What?” Yang Hong became flustered, her voice rising sharply, ”Okay, I’ll be right there!”

After saying this, Yang Hong hurriedly hung up the phone and turned to Han Xue’er, ”President Han, I would like to ask for half a day off this afternoon!”

”What’s wrong, has something happened to Uncle? Do you need my help?” Han Xue’er vaguely heard Yang Hong’s phone conversation and asked worriedly.

”No need, you and Brother Ye have already helped me so much, even if I am shameless, I can’t bring myself to ask for more help,” Yang Hong managed a smile, but could not hide the urgency on her face. After saying this, she rushed out.

Han Xue’er quietly watched Yang Hong’s retreating figure, suddenly feeling an uneasy premonition.

Remembering that Yang Hong had looked unwell, Han Xue’er’s first thought was that something must have happened to her family.

”I must tell Brother Ye!”

Han Xue’er’s reasoning was simple; Yang Hong was brought in by Ye Haochuan, who was certainly more familiar with her family matters and could handle the situation more conveniently.

With this in mind, Han Xue’er could not afford to hesitate and immediately called Ye Haochuan to tell him about the situation.

”You’re saying something happened to Yang Hong’s family?” Ye Haochuan intended to joke around upon receiving the call from Han Xue’er, but her next words startled him.

”There must be an emergency, otherwise she wouldn’t have left in such a flurry!” Han Xue’er explained.

”Alright, I’ll look into it!”

With that, Ye Haochuan hung up the phone and called Yang Hong.

”Is there something wrong at home? Do you need me to help with anything?”

”It’s nothing serious, just a minor matter. I can handle it myself. You don’t need to worry, Brother Ye!” Yang Hong said with as light a tone as possible.

”Really?” Ye Haochuan was skeptical.

”Really!” Yang Hong gave a firm answer.

Ever since she found out that Ye Haochuan already had a lady friend, Yang Hong’s attitude towards him shifted somewhat. Maybe in her eyes, Ye Haochuan just enjoyed joking around and didn’t genuinely like her.

Since they were destined not to be together, she shouldn’t owe him too much. As such, she was reluctant to involve Haochuan.

Although Yang Hong could control her tone, Ye Haochuan still sensed something unusual about her emotions. He was about to ask where she was when suddenly he heard the voice of a middle-aged man coming from her phone.

”Miss, we’ve arrived at the Wanzhong Building construction site!”

It was clear that the speaker was a taxi driver.

After hearing this, Yang Hong told Haochuan that she had something to take care of and hurriedly hung up the phone.

No, something’s definitely up!

Ye Haochuan had a bad premonition and immediately summoned his Flying Sword, flying towards the construction site.

...

By the time Yang Hong arrived at the construction site, her father, Yang Zongde, was lying and resting inside a shed. When she saw Yang Zongde’s face clearly, she felt a sudden chill.

Yang Zongde’s face was black and blue, with a long gash on his forehead. Despite being covered with a wet towel, fresh blood was still oozing out. Judging by Yang Zongde’s condition, it seemed as if half his life had already slipped away.

”Who did this, who dared to be so vicious?” Tears instantly welled up in Yang Hong’s eyes as she roared in anger.

”Who else but that heartless boss of the construction site!” A worker said bitterly.

”Exactly, if he hadn’t been withholding my pay for several months, I wouldn’t be putting up with this nonsense here!” another worker chimed in.

Yang Zongde was roused by Yang Hong’s voice and said weakly, ”I’m alright, I’m okay!”

”Dad, just hold on a little longer, the ambulance will be here soon!” Yang Hong said, looking at Yang Zongde with deep concern.

”Why call an ambulance? I’ve told you I’m fine. Why waste that money?” Yang Zongde, mustering some unknown strength, said to Yang Hong, ”I’m truly fine. Quick, call off the ambulance.”

”Dad, I’m making good money in my new job. Your health is what’s important. No matter what, you need to go to the hospital for a checkup!” Yang Hong insisted.

”It’s not easy for you to earn money, and those hospitals are a rip-off. They’re not for poor people like us. Listen to me, I know my body. I’ll be fine after resting for a couple of days... Cough, cough~” Before he could finish, Yang Zongde started coughing violently.

”Dad, stop talking...” Yang Hong hastily soothed his chest, urging him to be quiet.

But at this moment, a brash voice came from outside the shed: ”That guy who wanted money, he’s not dead, is he?”

”Nah, I just broke a few of his ribs. You don’t trust my work, Boss Zhang?” another person said obsequiously.

”Actually, it wouldn’t matter if he was dead. Accidents happen all the time on construction sites. What’s a few dead migrant workers? At most, we’ll just pay off with tens of thousands; those stinking peasants’ lives aren’t worth much anyway!” The construction site boss declared arrogantly.

”Hiss~” Everyone inside the shed couldn’t help but gasp. How could someone be so cruel?
