I Possessed The Villain In a Hunter Novel And It Fits Me Perfectly

The house we moved into on moving day was neat. It was not as if we had lived messily in the first place, but it was also because one room had been completely emptied out.

I gathered the artifacts Joo Seowon had returned and started the move in earnest. Since I had gotten rid of all the large furniture, it was not that difficult.

I deliberately bought another apartment unit in a different building and left the registered name and address there, then twisted the ownership of the new place around a few times so it ultimately landed under Do Yehyun’s name. If someone truly made up their mind to track it down, they would find it quickly anyway, but it was at least a minimal safety measure.

Since we had effectively already been living there for a while, I did not feel much after the move was finished. As for the jobs I had left to Joo Seowon and the matters I had still not told them about, I removed every single thing where schedule information might have passed to Joo Seowon from the priority list first.

There was already plenty of work piled up on Haeseong’s side anyway, so delaying it would not cause much trouble. There were also a few things I needed to do.

Though everything under “needed to do” was personal.

The first among them was Do Yehyun’s driver’s license.

I caught him just as he was about to leave work and dragged him straight to the driving academy. He looked bewildered at first, then eventually attended diligently. Well, he got his license pretty quickly too.

‘What was the hardest part? Road driving?’

‘Mm.... The written exam.’

‘You’re not stupid, but I think you just don’t have talent for studying.’

‘I wasn’t that bad when I was in school....’

‘But you barely attended school. Is that why?’

‘.......’

Then again, judging by how much shit he constantly crammed into that tiny head of his, maybe there was simply no room left in his brain capacity for studying. I grabbed Do Yehyun’s head with one hand, then ruffled it apart.

I lightly tossed the car keys to Do Yehyun.

“...What is this?”

“You need driving practice.”

“With you?”

“I’ve barely ever been in accidents.”

“Barely...?”

Had there been any time I crashed a car besides with Kwon Taehan? As far as I remembered, I did not think so.

Anyway, I took Do Yehyun and started driving lessons in earnest.

“Hyung, practicing with this car... this is my first car.... I got my license yesterday!”

“Which means you need to improve quickly, right?”

I forcibly shoved the hesitant Do Yehyun into the driver’s seat, then got into the passenger seat. Even after getting in the car, he kept flinching, so I started the engine for him instead. Left with no choice, Do Yehyun fastened his seatbelt.

“H-How far are we going?”

“Driving to Haeseong. Let’s go.”

“.......”

Do Yehyun looked at me with a troubled expression, then slowly nodded and muttered to himself as if making a resolution.

“Even if we get into an accident, I can just use healing....”

“.......”

You should be thinking about not getting into an accident in the first place. This sounded like he was planning to hit someone and then heal them afterward.

Still, I simply patted Do Yehyun on the shoulder a few times without saying anything.

“Yeah, can you start driving first?”

Surprisingly, he got out of the parking garage smoothly, but once we got onto the road, he kept fumbling a little. Well, it was not that there was any problem with the driving itself.

“Change lanes. Cut in.”

“Now?”

“Just stick your nose in first. They’ll move on their own.”

“.......”

At first, Do Yehyun cautiously watched everyone else, but after a while, maybe he realized that this much would not kill anyone, because he started driving fairly comfortably. We almost got into accidents a few times, but perhaps because there was a giant NEW DRIVER sign stuck on the back, nobody picked fights with us.

After arriving at the parking garage, Do Yehyun gripped the steering wheel so hard both hands turned pale, then quietly said,

“I don’t think I can park.”

“It’s fine. I already found a spot.”

I soothed the suspiciously glancing Do Yehyun and headed toward the spot I had in mind from the beginning. There was a parking area that stayed empty all the time despite being quite spacious.

Do Yehyun checked the spot, then suddenly slammed the brakes in the parking garage.

“That’s the Haeseong Guild Master’s car next to it.”

“The space is huge, but nobody parks there anyway.”

“Isn’t it because the car’s expensive, so nobody parks next to it?”

“Relax.”

“.......”

I really had meant for him to relax, but surprisingly enough, Do Yehyun did not scratch a single part of Im Haekyung’s car.

I checked the absurdly close distance between this car’s passenger seat and Im Haekyung’s driver’s seat, then paused briefly while opening the door.

“Should I back out and redo it?”

“No. Get out first.”

“Yes.”

After climbing out by crossing over the driver’s side, I casually looked over Im Haekyung’s car.

’Mm.... Looks impossible to get in.’

Not that it really mattered. I had planned to talk to Im Haekyung once today anyway.

“...Can we really leave it like this?”

“Yeah.”

“What about the car keys?”

The car keys? I laughed briefly and answered.

“I’m giving it to you as a long-term rental.”

***

After going up into the Haeseong building and sitting in the seat I had been assigned, I started work in earnest. Since they had assigned me as attack-type instead of appraisal-type, I thought I would be running Gates nonstop, but that was not really the case.

It was not that they were intentionally withholding assignments either. It was just that Haeseong was such a performance-based guild that every time a Gate appeared, an absurd number of people volunteered.

Of course, Do Yehyun, due to the healer shortage, started getting dragged all over the place the moment he transferred.

As a result, despite supposedly having moved to attack-type, I had unintentionally piled up appraisal work instead.

’If this is how it’s going to be, wouldn’t it have been better to assign me appraisal work from the start?’

Just then, Seok Jiwon suddenly gestured at me.

When I obediently followed him out, he called me all the way into an empty conference room and finally started talking properly.

“Long time no see, huh? I’ve been spinning through Dungeon runs nonstop the past few days, so I didn’t get a chance to greet you. That’s why I called you separately.”

“Yeah. You seem to be doing interviews pretty often too.”

“Khmm.... It can’t be helped. The requests keep coming in.”

I never said anything though?

When I blankly stared at Seok Jiwon over the random excuse, he coughed awkwardly several times in a row and said,

“My original dream was to become a celebrity.”

“Why?”

“...That was a joke, but somehow that response pisses me off. Anyway, now that you’ve officially transferred to Haeseong... if there’s anything you don’t know, ask. I might technically be a team leader, but honestly I mostly just check personnel numbers. You can take it easy.”

“Okay.”

“Hiss.... Casual speech at least....”

I slowly looked around the room, then asked,

“How exactly does the team system work?”

“Basically, when a Gate opens and a direct report comes into Haeseong, the assignment team relays it to the field-operation teams, and then Hunters are drafted as needed. Most are volunteers, and it’s practically first come, first served, so if you want in, decide quickly. Though in the case of S-rank Dungeons... the Guild Master sometimes assigns people personally.”

“It’s systematic. I thought SH was pretty systematic too.”

“It runs more chaotically than you’d think. You’ll see once you stay awhile....”

I quietly recalled the layout of the building in my head when Seok Jiwon glanced at me cautiously and asked,

“The kid who came with you was from SH too, right? The healer?”

“Yeah. You know him?”

“He’s fairly famous too. Since healers who can enter Dungeons are rare. ...Things really turned out unfortunate for SH too. Honestly, it weighs heavily on me. Especially since... I was in that Dungeon too.”

He seemed to be indirectly referring to Song Hwayoung’s incident, but I did not particularly sympathize. That was because I remembered exactly what kind of pathetic state he had been in inside that Dungeon.

“But didn’t you run away halfway through back then?”

“...And you poured potions into me and saved me. At the time, I thought you were trying to kill me, but you’re a better person than I expected. Same with how you went around collecting corpses back then.”

“Than you expected?”

“Well... it’s not like expectations of you could be that good, right? This is high praise. I even talked really positively about you during interviews.”

Had he? Among Seok Jiwon’s interviews, the only thing I remembered related to me now was bullshit.

As I merely stared at him with an unenthusiastic expression, he seemed to realize why I was looking at him like that and hurriedly added,

“Th-Those rumors about you and our Guild Master... they’ll die down over time. Office relationships are always like that.”

“They’re not dying down though.”

“Hey, I barely told anybody!”

What the hell was “barely told anybody”?

I looked at him with fascination, then informed him of the truth.

“There’s actually nothing going on between us.”

“What?”

“I’m saying the thing about me dating the Guild Master is fake.”

“...What?”

“Well, we’ve had some private conversations because of various things, but it’s not that kind of relationship. Strictly speaking, we’re practically stran—”

At that moment, my phone started ringing in my hand.

Im Haekyung

Incoming Call

Seok Jiwon’s gaze dropped to my phone screen, then slowly lifted again.

“.......”

“.......”

In the silence, we only exchanged looks for a moment before I answered the call.

“Yes. Why are you calling?”

— Move the car.

Ha.... I let out a sigh, casually jerked my head toward Seok Jiwon, then left the conference room.

“Guild Master, I have one piece of good news and one piece of bad news. Which one do you want first?”

— .......

“The good news is that the kid who got his license yesterday parked next to your car without leaving a single scratch. And the bad news is... well, Team Leader Seok Jiwon was sitting right next to me just now.”

— There is... a scratch though?

Well, shit. Was there? I was sure there had not been.

“Then I guess there are two pieces of bad news. That’s unfortunate....”
