Beyond Chaos – A DiceRPG

As the intermission continued, those of the auction house brought various jewellery, each piece selected only for a singular individual, a piece for every figure who was participating in the auction. Some were summarily dismissed, though they appreciated the gesture, even if they solemn bought such items.

Adam held the piece within his sight. A thick silver chain, in which an amber, no larger than a pinky nail, was set within a sun of silver. The piece was finely crafted at least, and offered for the sum of five hundred silver, and seemed perfectly suitable for his wife, who sat right beside him, admiring a silver ring, one worth a few silver, not too little to be offensive, not too expensive to disrespect a Ray.

Adam nodded, and with that, his receipts grew larger and larger, something he’d have to settle before he left, not that he hadn’t brought enough, or at the very least, nothing he couldn’t take a loan from the Iyr to settle in the future.

Once the first true intermission passed, the second phase began, with the gentle scents of medicine filling the air, as the auction brought out various potions and elixirs. Unfortunately, they were of typical affair, those of healing, healing, fire breath, resistance. The half elf bid on a few of those healing which were atypical, but it was then they brought out that kind of potion, the kind of potion which made many smile.

It began at a thousand silver, and quickly rose, surpassing even two thousand silver, until…

“Three thousand silver,” the half elf called, which was far too much for such a potion, and though others wished to procure it for the curiosity of it, they were not willing to surpass three thousand silver, especially since the half elf grinned so wide, for he knew how to use it.

Dina revealed another, a Vial of Feasting, which possessed a few drops, each staving off hunger for a day.

‘How…’ Adam suddenly sat upright, for though it intrigued him, it was far too important to him. As the others began to bid, already reaching a few thousand silver, the half elf waited.

“If no one else wishes to bid, five thousand to Niza Emarak.”

“Ten thousand silver,” Adam called, sitting upright, his eyes dark, arms crossed. Once more, the half elf did not hold the facade of a fool. It was this Adam which caused the temperature to drop. There was no overt threat, there was nothing, nothing but the vial within his sights.

At ten thousand silver, equivalent to a thousand gold, which was enough to procure a Basic magical weapons, the half elf procured such a potion. As his heart raced, a warm hand calmed the half elf.

It was during the next intermission the half elf truly calmed, glancing down at the hand upon his, taking it into his own. He thought he should have bought more of the finer healing potions, but he had to step back, in case he drew the ire of more of the nobles and merchants. He would leave tomorrow, but in the future, there was no need to trouble himself.

As the second greater intermission began, those of the House on the Hill brought out various trinkets, and for some, jewellery.

“You don’t have to buy me any more jewellery,” Pam whispered, already enjoying the gold chain her husband had bought for her, as well as the golden chain which she had declined, and yet he had easily bought.

“I do not have to, but I wish to,” the Iyrman replied, his ears turning red. Once more, he thought his brother’s ability was terrifying.

Kitool, too, had spent a small sum of silver upon procuring various bits of jewellery and the trinkets upon offer, though she did not wear any herself. Instead she considered her younger siblings and cousins, each of whom should possess bits of jewellery, just as souvenirs of her journey, though she had requested the old man nearby to touch them, so she could say who had once held such jewellery.

The half elf spied the silver ring with minuscule emeralds.

‘I wonder if they’re taking the piss,’ the half elf thought, but without a second thought, he spent the thousands of silver to procure the ring.

This phase was a smaller phase, as ingredients were wheeled out, each within their own unique containers, to keep them fresh, so Dina had informed, as she always did.

In which case…

The nobles and merchants, and even the alchemists within the auction house kept turning towards a particular fellow, who bid on every single item, and continued to bid, causing the Grand Alchemist of the Tahrir Square to turn towards him.

‘Is this kid, this damn goatson, trying to pick a fight?’

“Mo Adam, how many herbs do you require?” Mohammed asked, noting the annoyance rising in the air, for even if he wanted the herbs, he should surrender one or two to the Grand Alchemist of Tahrir Square, otherwise there would be some issues between them.

“These are all fairly decent ingredients, so I’d like to buy them all,” the half elf replied simply, interested in the alchemic materials.

“Do you dabble in alchemy?”

The half elf paused a moment. The moment lingered for far too long. The half elf blinked. “I am the High Alchemist of the United Kindom.”

Mohammed blinked. “Ah. I see.”

‘Oh. Right.’ Tamil nodded his head slowly. He had forgotten, since the half elf’s insanity was a little too much for them all.

‘He’s an alchemist too?’ the Grand Alchemist thought.

‘Ah,’ the Faro thought, also having forgotten.

“Do you fight better than you brew?” the martial Muhammed joked, as the tension in the air finally simmered to a playfulness.

The half elf thought for a long moment, his eyes shifting to the side. “I’d say that my alchemic abilities are pretty decent?”

Muhammed chuckled, though paused upon seeing the half elf thinking so deeply.

‘Oh. I don’t have Passive Alchemy?’

Vonda tilted her head slightly as the half elf glanced aside towards her, as though to say he may truly be stupid.

“My alchemy is enough that I could hold the title of High Alchemist, but I’m much better at fighting,” Adam, High Alchemist of the United Kindom, admitted. He spoke without a hint of playfulness, and instead, a resignation.

“Ah…” Mohammed, the merchant, replied.

“Do you think it’s easy to marry someone like my beautiful wife?” the half elf replied, letting out a soft sigh, as Vonda reached up to rub her head.

‘He really is a Crazy Husband.’

Lanarot looked up towards the sky, letting out a soft sigh. ‘How many more nieces and nephews will I be able to spoil?’

“Even so, Mo, it would be best to surrender a few ingredients to the Alchemist’s Association of Arisa,” Mohammed whispered, reaching up to hide his lips as he brushed his moustache. “It would not be best to aggravate them.”

“I am willing to surrender the herbs if someone is willing to outbid me,” Adam stated firmly, only looking at Dina, though his words were obviously meant for others. “If I had been invited to another auction, perhaps I’d be willing to show some mercy, but you see, my wife is right beside me, my sister to my other side, her mother and grandmother are also watching me right now.”

Mohammed and Muhammed exchanged looks between one another, for they could only hope to have been as fiery and as foolish in their youth.

“If you have more courage than the King of Floria, you may ask me to step back, but otherwise, open your purses, because I have come to spend at least a hundred thousand silver, or I am not a man!” the half elf declared, reaching out with a finger, pointing towards the box which held the chilling flame herb. “Did I declare five hundred silver? Make it a thousand!”

Vonda reached out towards his hand once more, and though the half elf relaxed, he continued to outbid anyone who dared to challenge him, for the herbs worth a thousand silver at most, which meant at the auction they reached up to two thousand silver, he made sure to pay the maximum price. The half elf did not surrender even when the Alchemist’s Association of Arisa spent three thousand silver on a herb that would normally sell for a thousand, bidding five thousand silver.

The half elf’s glare did not calm down until the herbs all belonged to him, and when the greater intermission came to them once more, the half elf raised a hand and beckoned a worker towards him.

The half elf wrote down a note for the worker, one that took a short while, partly because he needed to ask his wife, and then merchant Mohammed, for the various names. Though he wanted to keep all the herbs, he needed to make sure he made no enemies, so gifted half the herbs away to those who ended up bidding against him. He made sure the worker told them all immediately too, so they didn’t harbour any ill intent during the next phase.

“You have grown up,” Vonda teased.

Adam blushed, glancing to the side. “Let’s see how they behave once I’m officially a Paragon.”

“Brother, you can defeat Paragons, so it’s okay,” Lanarot said, reaching out a hand. “You were so manly!”

Adam’s lips twitched into the smile of a fool, the greatest smile of all. “I suppose, if my sister says so…”
