Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3197 Devouring Soul Physique?

”So you were watching? Do you want to be cornered again?”

”Oh my~ This helpless rabbit will have no choice but to escape.”

Vereina spread her hands and giggled, inducing Davis to feel lighthearted.

”Glad to see you smiling.”

He uttered, causing her to drop her hands slowly and turn silent. She then waved her hand, ”Forget it. I must not have been in my right mind to be shamelessly asking for an Empyreal Monarchʼs soul.”

”I was also quite ru-”

”You were not. I was indeed trying to take advantage of your magnanimity. It wonʼt happen again. Next time, if I want something, Iʼll ask you with an item of equivalence or near to it.”

”…”

”Youʼre like a different person.”

”Someone made me feel ashamed a lot, so I went ahead and contemplated the meaning of life.”

”My condolences for making a young beauty such as yourself consider your future early.”

”Pfft! Ahaha~”

The both of them broke out into laughter before Vereina waved her hand.

” Letʼs go. I hope you donʼt devour me while you research my soul.”

”Iʼll try not to…”

Davis shrugged and followed her. He couldnʼt help but like her response to their confrontation, but what could he say? As expected of a woman who crossed many tribulations as a Divergent? That was just sad but still admirable, although he didnʼt seem to say anything.

Soon, she brought him back to her quarters and sat on a cushion.

Davis also sat opposite her. There was not much distance between their knees, their caps almost hitting.

”Go ahead.”

Vereina removed her veil and appeared utterly serious. Davis also possessed a solemn expression even though he momentarily enjoyed admiring her beauty. He reached out his hand, pointing his finger at her forehead, touching it.

”Donʼt resist.”

The moment Davisʼs soul force entered Vereina, she shuddered.

Davis faced extreme resistance from her strong soul, but he didnʼt think of anything as this was normal. He waited for Vereina to adjust while he didnʼt forcefully enter, letting her take her time. Otherwise, he could injure her soul or make her feel extremely uncomfortable.

He imagined that she must have hated him, for that matter, so there should be another layer of resistance that she needed to let go of before she could willingly allow him.

Either way, Davis patiently waited before he finally gained entry into her soul sea after two minutes.

”Good control…”

He praised Vereina, heading deep inside her soul sea as his senses faded into her.

A purple-robed man manifested in a dark space. At first, he was nothing but an eye, but later on, his body became visible. His silhouette was quite vague but retained the features of his original appearance.

As he took a step forward in a direction that one couldnʼt pinpoint to be one of the four directions, he took off without any hesitation.

As far as one could see, dark purple mist covered the entire space. There were also silvery droplets shimmering as though they were stars made of water. He floated through this purple mist, heading towards the deepest part of this space as he could feel the soul essenceʼs reverberation.

ʼVereinaʼs soul sea is like a starry sky but with an evil connotation…ʼ

Davis narrowed his eyes. If he was weaker, he knew he could probably get devoured by her easily. That was how her soul physique was made to be: to devour other souls and strengthen itself. Moreover, he also understood another thing.

The soul sea was not a virtual space.

It was a vast spiritual space compressed into a single particle, perhaps even smaller than the smallest particle ever known to mankind. It was located in the yintang meridian right over oneʼs forehead, so finding it was relatively easy as long as one connected to the yintang meridian point.

There were various defenses in oneʼs soul sea.

The innate defense of the soul depends upon oneʼs soul essence. The quality and the capacity of the soul essence decide how difficult it would be to enter oneʼs soul sea, while the spiritual aspect, the Will, adds to it.

For this reason, a soul cultivator with a stronger Will would not fall prey to illusions even when it is cast by an opponent at the same level.

While Davis roamed through Vereinaʼs soul sea, he could sense a violent aura bearing down on him, screaming to destroy him. He knew this was Vereinaʼs unwillingness and the resistance created by it. Her soul was subconsciously warning him not to do anything crazy in this vulnerable space.

Moreover, he could even sense a bit of fear even though she kept her face absolutely indifferent.

ʼSigh… even though I said I wouldnʼt do anything to her…ʼ

Davis wondered if his words were not trustable or if it was just inexplicable fear. If it was the latter, he could understand, but if it was the former, he knew their relationship could only go so long, close enough to be well-wishing acquaintances at best, not that he blamed her after refusing her request.

Soon enough, he reached the depths of her soul sea, looking at an elliptical sphere that held her soul essence within.

”Vereina, you can start…”

”Alright~”

Vereina answered.

Suddenly, Davis saw the starry space around him begin to move, causing him to blink. He had never witnessed such huge changes occurring in a soul sea, but only after a few seconds did he find that it was yet to finish as there was another transformation.

The elliptical dark purple sphere before him contorted and sank, abruptly elongating into three heads.

These three heads looked like they belonged to a hydra with various spike-like horns covering them, their forehead even having slight protrusions at the edges. Their serpent eyes gleamed with a gold glint as they stared at him, appearing like the same manifestation Vereina displayed to him.

At the same time, one of these heads spat out a soul essence.

It seemed to belong to a Level Four Immortal Emperor Feral Beast as far as he could sense from the undulations. He didnʼt care as much as to what kind of beast it was, looking at the three hydra heads surrounding the soul essence and starting to devour as they sucked the essence of the soul essence like they were evil ghosts.

This chilling scene made him blink, wondering how he was supposed to comprehend this Law. Should he replicate this as a technique of a new Law or learn insights from it to incorporate it into his own Death Laws that could similarly have the potential to refine soul essences since Fallen Heaven could do the same?

He pondered as he watched the Violent Punitive Soul Physiqueʼs three hydras violently suck the essence of the Feral Beastʼs soul essence.

”Last time, when you ate a soul essence with your own mouth, ripping it apart like a wild beast, did you refine it the same way as you did now?”

Davis asked Vereina. After a few moments of silence, she answered.

”Indeed. The three hydra heads are also connected to my tongue, allowing me to swallow and refine soul essences as I please, and when I do not require them, I could store them.”

”Store?” Davis raised his brows as he thought she didnʼt have this ability, ”How many?”

”Utmost three, one for each head, but it requires me a lot of energy to store them.”

”I see. Thanks for letting me know.”

Davis appreciated Vereina before continuing to watch her refinement ability. He maintained his focus inside her soul sea, but outside, he took out the shimmering, beautiful white pill that had a surface as reflective as a clean mirror, the Celestial Luminescence Pill.
